Gamescom 2013 Wrap-up

Hey Guys,

So I decided to just do a wrap-up of info from Gamescom. I figured it would be the easiest. This is by no means all of the info coming out of Gamescom but I just wanted to give you guys a snapshot. First thing I must mention that Nintendo seems to have more plans to show out at Pax and just stayed classy at Gamescom. This cannot be said about Sony and Microsoft that took jabs at each other like this was a political race. I was disgusted to see these two companies act like this. They need to keep it professional.

Sony:

Sony’s Game Upgrade Program – Buy the PS3 game and upgrade to the PS4 digital dowload game at a discount. At Gamescom today Sony announced the price of the PlayStation Vita would fall to USD$199/€199, effective tomorrow in the US and Europe. Sony has announced a PS3 Grand Theft Auto V bundle. Included is a copy of the game, a 500GB PS3, and a Pulse headset. The package will hit in September alongside GTAV for $270 US. It also comes with a 30 day trial of PlayStation Plus. Sony has announced that Mojang's Minecraft is coming to PlayStation 4 at launch. It's also headed to PS3 and Vita, according to creator Markus "Notch" Persson.

Sony has revealed that PlayStation 4 will receive 33 games (a combination of retail games with PSN-only downloadable titles) between the console’s launch in November and the end of the calendar year. Sony has also revealed that “more than 180 PS4 titles [are] in development.”

Below is a list of every PS4 game slated to release in the console’s “launch frame.” An “R” indicates it’s a retail release; a “P” indicates it’s a downloadable release via the PlayStation Network. Keep in mind that all of PS4’s retail games will also be available digitally, just like on PlayStation Vita.

This week, Blizzard detailed the updates coming in WoW’s upcoming Patch 5.4: Siege of Orgrimmar, including class changes, currency conversions and much more.In an interview at Gamescom, game director Tom Chilton and lead content designer Cory Stockton explained how the new changes will affect WoW, plus how many more updates Mists of Pandaria players can expect.

Sims producer Ryan Vaughan has been around for almost this entire transformation, having started working at Maxis on The Sims 2 and continued through The Sims 3 and all its various expansions. "Quite frankly I think it’s the best simulator that we’ve created at Maxis, so I’m really excited about that," he says. "This is the first one that we’ve got brand new tech, [which] we’re calling it SmartSim, and it’s allowing us to create the most relatable and the most intelligent Sims game ever." "It creates a cascading set of circumstances for you as a storyteller," says Ryan. "For example, previously if a Sim caught their partner cheating, there’d be a short term mood hit and then the whole thing would effectively be dropped. Now they’d be pushed into a powerful emotional state by that – it might cause depression."

Well guys that's my wrap-up. I will probably do something similar for PAX and Eurogamer Expo. Until then.
