Mortal Instruments Book to Movie

Hey Everyone,

I personally like to read the book as soon as I hear that there will be a movie adaptation. Once I heard about this series, I figured hey, I might as well read it.

Amazon Description: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray (Lilly Collins) heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died.

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

My Thoughts: Okay at least Clary is not as foolish as Bella. I can say that much. The book flowed well overall. It did not get too hung up in the world of scenery description. The World constructed by Cassandra Clare is an easy one to understand. I was slightly concerned that I knew most of the terms the author used. I might be reading too many sci-fi/fantasy books.

There are aspects of incest that makes the book a little bit uncomfortable to read at times but everything works out at the end. Clary having a super power and understanding the power was good. She used the power very well when it needed to be done. I liked that the use of the Mark of Cain.

The mark was used to protect her best friend Simon who is slighted and then turned into a vampire and used against Clary.  I enjoyed seeing that Clary continued to grow as a character throughout the books and actually played a huge part in defeating her father in the end. Also there were more times that I wanted to shake Jace than Clary so that made me happy to see that Clary was not as hopeless as Bella.

I think the movie adaptation should be interesting. From the clips I am seeing it appears as though aspects of the other books are being combined into one just like Beautiful Creatures did.

I will be seeing the movie so I will definitely do a review and share my thoughts.
