American Horror Story: Coven Season 3, Ep. 1 “Bitchcraft”

Important Moments:

Show starts with a flashback with Kathy Bates as Madame LaLaurie. New Orleans 1834. She uses fresh blood from a human pancreas to make her face tight and young. She has slaves locked up and tortured in various ways. She made her own minotaur (half man, half bull).

Modern Day: During first time intercourse, Zoe’s boyfriend begins to bleed out of all orifices of his face. She possess a genetic marker dating back to Salem and she is apparently a witch. She is being sent to a school for witches, Miss Robinchaux’s Academy for Exceptional Yong Ladies based in New Orleans. Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) gets pranked on her first day but all turns out okay. Her classmates are Madison (Emma Roberts), Nan (Jamie Brewer), and Queenie (Gabbt Sidibe). We also meet the headmistress Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson). Apparently witches face extinction.

Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) demands the experimental stem cell drug that will give life. He is an idiot that gives it to her and she uses magic and kills him. The girls are at the table and attacking each other like the mean girls. Nan is clairvoyant, Queenie is a human voodoo doll, and Madison is telekinetic. Delia is a child of a supreme and Fiona stops by.

Frat party with Kyle Spencer (Evan Peters). Madison brings Zoe to the party. Madison gets drugged at the party and gang raped. The frat gets on a bus and drives off and Madison flips the bus over! Good! Bastards deserved worse! I will commend Kyle for trying to make them pay.

Supreme rounds up the girls for a field trip. She plans on getting the girls out of the Hogwarts feel and will teach them accordingly. The ladies march into the home of Madame LaLaurie. Zoe visits the frat boys in the hospital and takes her revenge out on them because of what they did to Madison and that Kyle apparently died. Apparently if Zoe has sex she can kill a man and that's what she does to the frat boy. Zoe is a black widow.

Flashback Cont. Marie Laveau (Angela Basset) brings Madame LaLaurie a potion for her husband's infidelity. The potion kills her but her body is never found, luckily Nan can detect where her body rests.

Madame LaLaurie is freed by Fiona. She has been alive this whole time just buried under ground.

My Thoughts:

The show comes out swinging with the crazy as usual. I did not like watching the abuse of the slaves. She could have had a mixture of others at least. I am sorry but just the name alone of the school makes you think that people are killed and/or sacrificed there. You know that the history is going to be shady.

They used the term reigning supreme, as in supreme witch. Should I be concerned that I know what that is already. The doc uses the magic words saying the drug is not magic……. Looks like Fiona is the supreme witch and Delia is her child. They were hinting at it for a moment then just revealed it; they could have done it better.  Fiona's obsession with vitality, I am sure means something bad for the teenage girls.

Okay so LaLaurie is alive so I am sure Lavaeu is alive as well and now they can start up their feud again. Fiona released LaLaurie and she will stir up trouble as I doubt she will adapt to modern day. The previews look good for the season. The powers of each girl is interesting and Zoe being a black widow will prove to be quite interesting.

I do enjoy how the American Horror Story pulls most of the same actors for each season.

  1. I know it's the nature of the show to be as gross as they can be, but I feel like the LaLaurie character is extra crap in the plot I could live without. I like the interaction between the girls and I love Jessica Lange. If there were ever a Supreme, it is she.

    1. I completely agree with you. LaLaurie was a bit much and frankly not needed. Basset can stand on her own without the back story of LaLauire. I think Lange means Supreme in another language.
