X-Men Vol. 3: Out of Their Depth

So random question to everyone, What would happen if your 16 year old self saw you today? How would they react? Would they like you? Would their young optimism and innocence make you want to be a better person today? It may be impossible to answer these questions now but in the Marvel Universe these questions are what the All New X-men by Brian Micheal Bendis and Stuart Immonen is all about. For numerous reasons the Original X-men; Iceman, Cyclops, Beast, Angel, and Jean Gray are bought from the past into the future.

From there they get to encounter their future selves and see what the world has become. In this volume the Original Cyclops gets to see the brother he thought he lost and then with the help of Wolverine and Kitty Pryde the Originals put a stop to the Mystique, Sabertooth, and Mastermind's plan that's been developing since the last volume.

What I like the most about this volume and this series really is the interactions between Wolverine and the young Cyclops. Anyone who has been reading or watching the X-men knows that Wolverine has been making life difficult for Cyclops basically since he showed up on the team. Whether it was his James Dean Rebel without a cause attitude, his insistence on killing people, the fact that his being so cool overshadowed his adherence to rules personality, or even just maybe the fact that he tried to steal his girlfriend like a Canadian Pepe LePew. Wolverine has been a thorn in Cyclops side. But now that Wolverine is the headmaster and Cyclops is the rebellious teen out of his time the roles have reversed, but instead of dealing with it like Cyclops used to Wolverine looks at him like nothing would bring him more pleasure than smacking the taste out of his mouth, and Immonen does a great job illustrating this look.

So if you're interested in some X-men time hijinks and hilarity I suggest you go to your comic shop and pick this up.
