Five Weapons: Making the Grade Review

Five Weapons by Jimmie Robinson is a book about Tyler, the son of a famous assassin, who enrolls in The School of Five Weapons, the preeminent school for up and coming assassins. The school is broken down into five different “clubs” each led by a different student: Jade the Blade, Rick the Stick, Darryl the Arrow, Joon the Loon, and Nat the Gat. You can guess what most of the clubs are and since I’m feeling magnanimous I’ll tell you the one you cant figure out, Joon the Loon is the head of the exotic weapons club, you know poisons and stuff like that.

Since Tyler’s family is famous he is instantly sought after by all the clubs to join and here is where it gets interesting, Tyler goes about taking over the school using his best weapon, his mind. The way he gets around all of the clubs and their student representatives is extremely clever and entertaining and it kind of reminds me of Parker Lewis can’t Lose, you know if Parker Lewis had to deal with Kubiak being armed with guns or knives or really big sticks.

Jimmie Robinson is pulling double duty handling the art and the writing for this book and the bright colors and character designs do an interesting job of making us feel that we are in a private school setting, despite the subject matter the students are studying. The book seems straight forward but there are some really big twists that reward you for reading it and the first one is really a big game changer, I suggest you guys go and check it out.

A Little Extra

So as you guys can tell I’m a nerd. And like most nerds, I dabble in tabletop gaming. I’m currently in a Tuesday night Pathfinder game, yes I always play an Elf, and yes if we’re being honest I can sometimes be a Munchkin. So you can probably imagine the geekgasm I had when I found out there’s a Pathfinder comic and that its good. I just got finished reading the end of the “Of Tooth and Claw” story and its good. Its written by Jim Zub who does really good work in the high fantasy comic realm. If you’re a fan of table top gaming you should check it out, also if you’re a game master who’s looking for someone to play an Elf and you don’t mind some occasional Munchkin behavior send me an invite in the comments.

American Horror Story: Coven Season Finale

American Horror Story S3 Ep. 13 “The Seven Wonders”

Important Moments:
Great opening sequence of Stevie Nicks and the girls getting ready for their tests. Myrtle Snow and Delia administer the first test, telekinesis. All four pass the first test. Next is mind control. Misty vs Queenie they enjoy doing mean things to each other. Madison vs Zoe. Madison goes for Kyle and adds him to the drama. She truly shows her pettiness. Next test is astral projection. Queenie returns first then Madison and Zoe but Misty finds herself stuck in her time in science class when the teacher made her kill a frog. Misty does not make it back in time and dies in Delia’s arms.

Transportation is next. The girls keep teleporting and tagging each other. The girls are having fun doing it and Zoe finds herself impaled on the fence. Madison refuses to bring Zoe back and names herself Supreme. Kyle holds Zoe’s hand is very upset about her death. Myrtle tells Delia that she has great powers and tells her to perform the seven wonders because she is meant to be the next Supreme.

Delia performs the tasks very easily. Madison has to do divination. Madison gets mad that she fails and packs her stuff in a huff. Kyle gets upset with Madison for letting Zoe die. He kills Madison while Delia brings Zoe back. The creepy butler, Spalding, shows up to say he will take care of the body. Delia passes out from the experience.

She wakes up with her eyes fixed. She is the new Supreme. Delia is doing a news special saying that she is a witch. Delia works at making the coven grow by using the news cast. Delia wants to put Queenie and Zoe on the council. Myrtle volunteers to be burned at the stake for what she did to the last council. Delia refuses to burn her. The ladies are out in the rock quarry again with the black umbrellas and Myrtle is wearing an awesome red dress. She is burned again at the stake.

Delia offers the council position to Queenie and Zoe who accept. Delia sees her mother in the parlor. Turns out Fiona set it up to look like she was killed by putting a memory of her murder in the Axeman’s mind. Fiona looks like death. Fiona admits to loving Delia even if she treated her badly. Fiona dies in Delia’s arms. Fiona wakes up on a farm and she looks normal. The Axeman is there. She is stuck spending eternity with the Axeman. She ends up seeing Papa Legba. Delia, Queenie, and Zoe welcome the new girls. Kyle is the new butler. Show ends with Delia’s welcome speech.

My Thoughts: Frankly I thought this season was more gore than necessary. I did not enjoy the slave aspect though I respected the work of Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates. Jessica Lange did an awesome job as Fiona. I like that even though Fiona looks like death she is still wearing her heels. Predicable death of her in her daughter’s arms.

The season finale wrapped things up nicely, a little too nicely. It had too much of a warm tree hugger feeling to it. I wished things happened a little bit different. Having Delia as the supreme worked too nicely and then for her to get her eyes back was too much. Either one of the girls should have been the supreme or Fiona should have killed Delia. A twist was needed but not delivered sadly.

What did you think of the finale? Share your thoughts in the comments.

New TMNT Concepts Leaked

Hi Everyone,

I know most of my audience enjoyed the first installment of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in 1990 and its sequel in 1991. We all were excited for the ooze and TGRI reveal. We loved the video games and cartoons. Now we have Michael Bay's 2014 installment coming to us in August and some concepts from the movie are currently on the internet. Check out below.

You have Shredder and Leonardo.

Apparently these are not actual people but rather a maquette (French word for scale model). Check out my YouTube channel (Fangirl Review Official YouTube Channel) for my thoughts. Leave your comments here or there about what you think. Oh by the way, these new turtles are Aliens and not Mutants and Megan Fox is April O'Neil.

Gamer Corner: LeVance

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I've been a gamer since I first played the Atari 2600. I currently game on the PS3. I'm more of a console gamer.

What is your first memory of gaming?

My first memory of gaming is playing Pac-Man on the Atari 2600.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How's the overall game play and graphics?

I'm currently playing The Last of Us. I'm enjoying the game very much. I really like the story line and the graphics are amazing.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would recommend it to anyone and I have. It's a good game, great story, best graphics I've seen in awhile and the game play.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I waiting for Watch Dogs and Destiny.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

The kind of I would design would be something in the way of Fallout 3. Vast open world with numerous side missions and DLC.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles - Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I'm getting a PS4 in the coming month, wouldn't buy the Xbox One and the Wii U is a quality console that lacks enough great games.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

With all the great or good titles coming this year, I'd say the industry is doing very good.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

10 years from now the industry should be much better than it is now. I'm liking the direction it's going. I'd go the direction of more games in the mold of the up coming Destiny.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

All time favorite has to The Legend of Zelda the Ocarina of Time. Has to have been one of best story lines of the series.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

My only comment would be for you to keep up the good work.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Xbox tag is LDawg74 and my PS3 tag is Tinkpot.

Thank you to LeVance for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at

Teen Wolf S3, Ep. 16 “Illuminated” Review

Important Moments: Isaac is freaked out by “The Five”. Mr. Argent believes that they are after him. He has in his possession a broken mask that looks like the kind that they Five wear. Mr. McCall tries to interrogate Kira, Scott, Stiles, and Lydia but finds that he is getting nowhere. Kira is at home and takes a picture of herself in the mirror and she is covered by light in the picture. Scott gets Kira alone and she says she does not want to talk about it. She asks Scott to take a picture of her so he can see the same image. Derek finds himself surrounded by The Five.

Kira and Scott worked together to get her phone back from the police because they contain pictures of her with the glowing light around her. There is a black light party being held at Derek’s warehouse. The Five are there as well. Ethan finds himself surrounded by the Five. Stiles is worried about the new key on his key ring. He has no idea how it got there

Scott is holding Kira’s hand and sees Allison. Kira notices and lets go of Scott’s hand and disappears in the crowd. Lydia starts to notice the Five in the crowd and starts to see one of The Five come out of the shadows. As she is about to scream it takes her ability away. Stiles finds a phosphorous substance on his mystery key. Kira and Scott find themselves together again alone on the roof. Scott tells Kira that the image in the picture looks like a fox. Isaac finds a 5 behind his ear and they find Ethan. Aiden finds Lydia. They both have a 5 behind their ear as well as Derek.

Derek interrupts the party and kicks everyone out. They are just left with the Five. Fight time! They seem to be focused on Aiden. He ends up being marked as well. Kira sees Scott partially change. The sun rises and the Five melt away. Mr. Argent comes home and looks like he has been beaten pretty badly. Stiles finds that the key works for the Chemistry room and realizes that he was the one that left the message to kill Kira.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed Scott and Kira together. It is fun to watch them develop this connection. I still do not care for Allison and Isaac but I am starting to accept it. Their interaction is written very well so I must admit I am not disliking them as much but I am not for this relationship.
I must admit the Five have some awesome tricks. The fight sequence was fun and it was interesting to see the Five pull out the sword from his chest. Okay so the Five are only marking the supernaturals. So far we have Isaac, Ethan, Aiden, Derek, and Lydia. I really want to see Mr. Argent’s connection to all of this. Also will they be going after Kira and Scott next? Scott believes that Kira is surrounded by a fox. I wonder what that will mean.

Last thought, Stiles wrote the message to kill Kira. Looks like the door is still open in Stiles mind and something may be coming throught.

Fast and Furious 7 poster

Hello Everyone,

As you can see from the above picture, the Fast & Furious 7 movie poster has been released. It shows O'Conner's car departing from the path that Torretto's car is on. It is a way to acknowledge the tragic passing of Paul Walker. The movie has been pushed back to a 2015 release due to the untimely death of Walker. So far the movie studio claims they will not use CGI or have actors fill in for Walker as was done in The Crow for Brandon Lee.

I look forward to seeing how this movie turns out and see how the studio will pay its respects to Walker. Leave your thoughts in the comments. Share the post if you enjoyed it.

Movie Mondays: The Host

Random Movie Mondays is back. This week's movie is "The Host". It was directed by Andrew Niccol and released in 2013. It is based on the best seller by Stephanie Meyer. Sadly I did not get to read the book first which hurts me but I did enjoy the movie.

Story Line: 'The Host' is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), one of the few remaining 'wild' humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the men they both love.

My Thoughts: In the beginning when she is first invaded by the alien life force, they are playing a beautiful background music as if it is okay to take over this girl’s life. It is interesting to watch her fighting within herself with the host then to just give in and let the alien win. I enjoyed the beginning with a series of flashbacks so you understand why Melanie does not want to give up and continues to fight as the host tries to learn where the human resistance is located. When the Wander and Melanie start to work together that is when the movie really began to get interesting.

Melanie is finally reunited with her family and they only see the Host in her so they plan to kill her. Melanie’s Uncle Jeb takes the Wanderer under his wings and actually renames her Wanda. The other humans do not like her being with them but he sees something in her. They try to kill her a few times but luckily some humans step in.

The great part of this movie is that you begin to see that the aliens are not completely evil. You truly grow to like Wanda and hope that she can find a way to survive and for Melanie to live. The movie was overall well done and I did not feel like I was lost in another Twilight type movie. It was interesting to realize that the true star of the movie is Wanda and not Melanie. I would recommend this movie. It was well done and had a great ending.

The Vampire Diaries s.5, Ep. 11 “500 Years of Solitude”

Show stars with Katherine in Bulgaria 1940 giving birth. She never gets to see her daughter because her father took the child away. Present day she is being shocked back to life in the hospital. Damon is drunk at the bar and is found by Jeremy and Matt. Elena is sad and laying in her bed when Caroline and Bonnie wake her up. The Scooby Gang come together to play a game of shots about all the bad things Katherine has done to them.

Stefan is sitting talking to Katherine. She is streaked with grey. Nadia shows up and knocks out Matt. Damon lets everyone know that Stefan slept with Katherine. He also let is slip Nadia is Katherine's daughter which I guess only a handful of them knew. Nadia kidnapped Matt to enlist the help of the Scooby gang to help Katherine live longer. Elena and Stefan agree to help Nadia find a traveler to teach Katherine how to become a passenger in Nadia's body.

Flashback to Bulgaria 1492 – Katherine finds her family all killed. Then Damon shows up in the flashback and taunts her for causing the death of her family. Present day – Sheriff Forbes shows up and stops Damon from killing Katherine. Caroline finds Klaus while out in the woods looking for Matt. The travelers agree to help but the price is for the doppelgangers is Elena and Stefan. Klaus came to watch Katherine die.

Caroline finds out that Jeremy and Bonnie are hooking up. Flashback to when Katherine first arrived to Mystic Falls. She sees Stefan for the first time and decided to stay with the Salvatores. The travelers take a bucket of blood from Elena and Stefan and free them. Klaus shows up again and tells Caroline that Matt has been freed by Rebekah. Klaus still is seeking some type of chance with Caroline. Katherine is hallucinating and seeing Gemma and John. Elijah shows up and tells Damon to stop those images but in reality it was Damon. Nadia shows up and breaks Damon’s neck and begins teaching Katherine how to travel.

Stefan tells Elena to not give up on Damon. Katherine refuses to be a passenger in Nadia’s body. She wants her daughter to live her life. Klaus asks for a confession from Caroline about how she truly feels about him and if she does it he will walk away from her forever. She kisses him and they hook up. Katherine is back into the memory of her parents’ death this time with Stefan. He lets her know that the death of her family is not her fault. Damon and Stefan are talking. Stefan urges Damon to make things right with Elena. Tyler shows up to the group. Everyone is together. Alaric and Vikki make a showing. Bonnie and Jeremy are the only ones that can see them. Bonnie sees Katherine but then she gets back into her body. Elena is there with Katherine and tells her that she forgives her. Katherine last minute jumps into Elena's body.

My Thoughts:

Sad how much destruction one person was able to do to a whole group of people. I do love the compassion Stefan has for Katherine and it makes me wish she will live longer. There goes poor human Matt being used and abused by the supernaturals around him.

It is actually sad to see Katherine withering away. I am still routing for her to live. She was such a formidable enemy and I wish she would live on to cause havoc. Seeing Alaric made me sad. He truly was the better half to Damon and I really want him back.

It was predictable that Katherine was going to jump into Elena's body. As soon as I saw Elena sitting there with Katherine I knew what was going to happen. Oh well. Until next week.

Gamer Corner: David

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

First of all, I'm 32 years old, married, and father of a beautiful 4-year old girl. I am an Orchestra teacher at the middle school level. I also am a violinist and keep myself musically active by playing for a symphony orchestra and more musical endeavors. Currently I own a Wii U and have always considered myself a console gamer. I played World of Warcraft actively for about 8 years before calling it quits. I have a wide range of gaming tastes but a good RPG (turn based preferrably) will most always be my weakness.

What is your first memory of gaming?
My mother owned an old Intellivision console, so we got to play a bit of Pong, that's my first memory if you will.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

I'm currently enjoying ZombiU, I really enjoy the game because of several factors. First of all, it's very immersive, the game is downright scary and you feel endangered. I get the feeling that my character never feels overpowered. As a matter of fact, I had a character with all sorts of weapons and I took a bad turn and that was it for him. Second, the game makes good use of the gamepad controller, it feels like it was designed around this peripheral and it's integral to the game. Also, it really puts the context of the game into a real world scenario. What if a Zombie infestation happened? What would you do to survive? Scary stuff indeed. As far as gameplay is concerned, it's fluid and while it's in first person, it feels more like a first person adventure, not a straight shooter. Graphically, it's very smooth and crisp, the frame rate is very steady and the actual graphics are very nice. On the downside, some of the level design can feel a bit repetitive and the Zombie design is a bit repetitive as well, plus some textures are bit bland but it's not a deal-breaker for me.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would recommend it because despite what the press said, it's a very solid game. The scary factor (immersion) is there, the gameplay is there, and the Gamepad integration adds to the game.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to Watch_Dogs, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Brothers, X from Monolith Soft, Project CARS, The Division (need a PS4 for that), Bravely Default is out already so I need that, can't think of many more off the top of my head.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

Currently I'm trying to learn to use Unity to do precisely that. I'd like to develop a Soccer game that includes features I haven't seen even in games like FIFA. I would expand a bit on character creation and other game modes.
Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I believe the Wii U is severely underrated, it's a very solid console that I personally enjoy very much. It has decent power and it innovates on game design. The PS4 is a console that I do want to eventually purchase, but am not in a hurry to do so. This generation I will skip Microsoft's console. While it has plenty of raw power, I'm not interested in the forced Kinect and camera peripheral. I did own a 360 but I ended up selling it, games did not innovate enough for me.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I believe the gaming industry has suffered from the transition of gaming becoming too mainstream. In the olden days, being a gamer was a kind of underground thing, you traded games with your friends and you got to explore many different games and genres. Nowadays you have game developers popping everywhere, producing cheap games, and most requiring micro transactions. Everything is about making loads of money and appeasing investors. I believe this system is not self sustainable and I believe a change must come, and just develop fun games anyone can enjoy.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
That's a tough question, since I see two possibilities. The first choice is things keep going as they are now, which would lead to original and good ideas that may never come to fruition. Formulaic, yearly release games will rule and developers will hide behind their big name to produce sub par games that are popular and sell millions of copies. Second possibility is that developers get back to making games that truly innovate and move away from hoarding as much cash as possible. Smaller game studios with passionate gamers emerge and drive the industry away from advertising, politics, and aspects like micro transactions fade away and remain a dark time in gaming's history.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

Toughest question here but I think it's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's my favorite because the gameplay was like nothing seen before, the transition to 3D was amazing, and the story was beyond epic. The dungeon design was clever, the puzzles tough, and there was plenty to do outside of the main quest.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

I would love for people to just enjoy whatever system and developer they prefer, without harassing others that think differently. Many of us Wii U gamers take a lot of heat for our preference but we are not discouraged, we love our system and really enjoy it. To those who have not tried the Wii U I highly recommend that you give it a spin, most people I encounter that used to bash it become very pleasantly surprised with it. I believe that raw graphical prowess does not make a good game, we should as gamers be more open minded to other ideas and styles. In conclusion innovation and gameplay trumps pretty graphics, in my opinion.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Sure my NNID is warlock815

Thank you to David for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at

Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Finale

Sleepy Hollow S1, ep. 12 “Indispensable Man” & S1, ep. 13 “Bad Blood”

Indispensable Man: Crane is trying to figure out the date in the Washington’s bible. Andy shows up to talk to Abbie and tries to warn her and make a deal with her to serve with him. Andy admits his love for Abbie which makes you sad for him. He is torn between the one he serves and the woman he loves.  Washington drafted a map of how to get to purgatory and Crane wants to use it to free Katrina. Raise your hand if you are concerned about what else may come out. Crane and Abbie ask for Mr. Parrish’s help to lift the prayer beads that resurrected Washington. Sadly there is a hex on the beads that hurts him but he did see some of what happened with Washington.

Abbie questions Crane about how opening purgatory may bring about the end of the world. She asks if Crane is willing to give up Katrina for the greater good. Andy was wrapped up in a cocoon and reborn into a creature for Moloch. Crane, Parrish, and Abbie set out to find the grave site of Washington. Crane’s wedding ring is the key to opening the tomb of Washington’s coffin. They find the map in Washington’s hands. Andy shows up, uh oh.

Parrish touches Andy which causes him to remember and begs Abbie to kill him and destroy the map. She sadly is forced to kill her long time friend and they are able to get out. Abbie asks Crane to destroy the map. Crane burns the map and chooses Abbie. Captain Irving confesses to the murders at the safe house in order to protect his daughter. Crane sits down and begins to reconstruct the map from memory. Frankly that is a huge betrayal.

Bad Blood – Crane finds himself in a war reenactment. Parrish walks into the cabin and tells of his premonition of Moloch raising a creature and seeing the horsemen rising. Crane comes clean about drawing the map and admits how he needs a witch to stop the second horseman. They plan to use Katrina to help them. They are warned to be careful to not let themselves want to stay in purgatory.

Abbie wakes up and sees Andy and Corbin and questions where Crane is. Corbin lets her know that she is in the FBI academy. Crane wakes up and is welcomed into a celebration where his father welcomes him home. They are both trapped in their dream life in purgatory. Abbie realizes it is fake and breaks out of the cabin. Crane realizes that it is a dream and leaves his father behind.

Crane wakes up and in a weird land with odd creatures that have no faces. He finds Abbie. They are able to find Katrina who is in the church. She says she cannot be released until she is forgiven. Katrina says that her soul can leave the realm if another takes its place. Abbie realizes that it is her that needs to stay and she needs to face Moloch. Crane swears he will be back for her.

Abbie finds herself face to face with Moloch. Crane, Katrina, and Parrish set off to find the place where Moloch plans to raise the horseman. Jenny is on a mission to find the Saint’s name. The headless horseman guns down the car and Jenny is knocked out. Abbie finds herself in a the place where she feels safe. She sees the younger version of herself and Jenny. The memories were removed by Moloch so she will forget the truth. Parrish betrays them. As a teen Abbie saw Moloch pull out the second Horseman who is actually Crane and Katrina’s son who is Parrish. Abbie was sent there to stop the rising of the Horseman but she was too weak at the time.

The name of the church was St. Henry Parish. He took that name after he rose. The headless horseman arrives as Katrina and Crane are tied up. The horseman grabs Katrina and rides off. Crane is trapped in the box his son was originally trapped in. Henry breaks the second seal. End.

My Thoughts: There is a prophecy saying that Crane will give Abbie’s soul to Moloch. I think he would do it if he had to choose between her and Katrina. The relationship between Abbie and Crane is stronger with the map being destroyed but I do not think they should trust Parrish anymore. As I continue to watch the show I realize that my hunch was right. The beads burned Parrish because he was the horseman and not because there was a hex on the beads. If Crane or Abbie had touched the beads they would have realized it.

I must admit I do feel that I am lacking since I do not have the ability to quote from the bible as I quote from movies. Am I the only one feeling this way as I watch this show? Everyone in it can quote the bible like they quote lines from The Simpsons.

The show overall was done well. The season finale was great and we now have to wait until Fall 2014. Cliffhangers – Abbie stuck in purgatory, Crane trapped in a grave, Jenny knocked out in a car accident, Katrina kidnapped by the headless horseman, and Irving going to jail. I look forward to seeing where this show will go next.

Maleficent Trailer #2 Released

Hello Everyone,

I am sure I am not the only one who is excited for the Maleficent movie to be released. Disney recently released the second trailer. Check it out below.

Looks more and more fun in my opinion. I want the movie to be so compelling that I am on the side of Maleficent in the end. Anyone else feel this way? The movie is scheduled to be released on May 30th, 2014.

What are your thoughts on this movie and the new trailer?

Smash Bros: King Dedede Announced

New Challenger Approaching! Our friend King Dedede is back for the new Wii U and 3DS.

He wields his trademark hammer, swinging it in most of his standard attacks. His special moves are Inhale ,Waddle Dee Toss, Super Dedede Jump , and Jet Hammer. Inhale is very similar to Kirby's trademark move, except King Dedede lacks the ability to copy abilities. Waddle Dee Toss lets the king throw his minions at foes, sometimes producing not only Waddle Dees but also more deadly Waddle Doos and Gordos.

Super Dedede Jump is an effective recovery move, sending King Dedede high into the air, then crashing into the ground to damage foes. Finally, King Dedede mechanizes his hammer with Jet Hammer. The hammer's power is charged up by holding the special attack button, and then released for a mighty swing.

I do not know anyone who chooses to play with him but if you do you should be excited to hear that he will be in the next installment.

As you can see from above Mario is on some sort of side scrolling board. This game image was taken by director Masahiro Sakurai during development. It may be a hint at a the single player mode. I look forward to new exciting news.

What are you hoping to see in the next installment of Smash Bros.?

Gamer Corner: Freddy

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I kind of categorize myself as an Alpha gamer. I’m that much more than a Hardcore gamer and far above casual. I play every day, often pulling all-nighters and am currently in possession of a PS3, PS4, PS Vita and an Asus Gaming laptop. I play all games from MMOs to FPSs. I NEVER EVER play Sports games though. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Soccer….blargh! I can be a bit cocky at times but when you’re as good as I am, it’s warranted. *Cue a pic of me with a sparkling smile here*

What is your first memory of gaming?

Ah, I remember getting my 1st NES console in the 80s. Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, and a little known Shmup by the name of Tiger-Heli. You could never beat it, you just got in a little further each time until the point that it pissed you off so bad that had to shut the game off and go outside and play. I think that game is responsible for me being such a game perfectionist to this day. There will NEVER be another game that I can’t beat from now on if I have any breath in my body.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

Well, I play everything that I feel is good soon as its made available. Atm, I'm playing Battlefield 4 on the PS4 which is all there cosmetically but it was shipped out kind of rough and buggy. After many patches, I’d say it’s a stable shooter.

Would you recommend it, why?

Yes, Dice (the developer) has had an outstanding track record dating back to the Battlefield Vietnam titles on PC. They’re last few titles were a little bug infested and rushed out but I won’t blame them for it. I know what its like to work for a tyrannical job that rushes you to get something to the public and not care about the end result, just the money it can bring in. At least they listen to feedback and fix problems with the fastest responses possible.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
The Division, Watchdogs, Destiny, Planetside 2, Diablo 3: PS4 Edition Toukiden, Persona 5, Mighty Number 9, and Infamous: Second Son.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I used to attend college for game software development and no matter what Idea I came up with, it was never good enough for my instructors. I originally came up with an open world GTA-esque game that consisted of the final war that would start the holy war. As a human, You were to choose the side of Evil, who if won would enslave all remaining humans in hell except a chosen few who would be made into demons, and Good who if won, would completely wipe out the rest of the human race in order to start over with a new Eden.
Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?
PS4 needs games, Xbox One needs to rethink its strategy of an expensive TV and football box and Wii U….NEEDS HELP!

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

It’s defiantly come a long way since the days of Pacman and Joust. The devs make up the core of the industry but some such as EA and Activision will undoubtable take us back to the friggen stone age with their greedy BS. I also have to say that as much as I dislike Capcom right now, (Like seriously if you knew me, you’d understand) I wish that they come to understand that the dire straits is a harsh lesson of understanding that you can’t just do what you THINK the consumer wants and just completely tell your fan base to screw off when they TELL you what they want. Hopefully they can turn around and come out of their hole.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

I am ok with where it is now but I’m really tired of FPS shooters running so rampant, *Cough* CALL OF DUTY *Cough*. New ideas need to come about or it will be nothing more than another Hollywood that consists of rehashes and remakes of 80s-90s games.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

A little know Dreamcast game called Skies of Arcadia. Sky pirates, item creation, exploration, wonder/landmark discovery and character leveling….was DECADES ahead of its time.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

Thank you for giving me the moment to gloat about myself and actually get my ideas out. Gaming means so much to me and I can say, it has saved my life and kept me sane on many occasions. It’s a great thing you are doing because we gamers are way more just the weirdos that the media and other society groups see us as. We are gamers and we are a growing legion who are vastly superior to anything else….yea, I said it!

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Sure thing! (I kinda do it all)
