Movie Mondays: Go

Random Movie Monday is back again. The movie for this week is Go. It was released in 1999 and directed by Doug Liman. I know it is a bit far back but it is an enjoyable movie that you should check out.

IMDB Plot Summary: 'Go' is set mostly during one long Christmas Eve in the lives of a group of young adults on the events surrounding a drug deal in Los Angeles replayed three different times from three different views. In a straightforward manner; when slacker Simon Baines (Desmond Askew) takes off for a getaway to Las Vegas with his friends, Ronna (Sarah Polley) takes his shift at the 24-hour grocery store where they work. When two guys, named Adam (Scott Wolf) and Zack (Jay Mohr), walk in asking to score some dope from Simon, Ronna takes it upon herself and her friends Claire (Katie Holmes) and Mannie (Nathan Bexton) to buy some drugs from the local drug dealer Todd Gains (Timothy Olyphant). But the drug deal is a sting that Adam and Zack are forced to set up by an overzealous narcotics agent, Burke (William Fitctner). Ronna is forced to dispose of the drugs. With no other alternative, she tries to double-cross Todd with phony drugs. Meanwhile in Las Vegas, Simon's adventures with his best friend Marcus (Taye Diggs) hit an unfortunate turn during a trip to a strip club, while Adam and Zack end up spending Christmas Eve with Burke and his wife Irene (Jane Krakowsk), and afterward while driving to a rave where Ronna is dealing, the guys accidentally hit Ronna with their car and leave her for dead. Nearby, Mannie nearly OD's on dope, and Claire gets more friendly with a vengeful Todd whom is now looking for Ronna.

My Thoughts:  A fun movie in the same genre as Empire Records and Hackers. If you enjoyed those movies you will enjoy Go in my opinion. Plus who doesn’t love Katie Holmes being mixed up with a drug dealer. The movie happens in essentially a 24 hour period with three different perspectives telling the story. It is interesting to watch how a drug deal can go wrong and draw in so many different characters. What I enjoy most about this movie is that it has a cult classic feel to it. The characters are all intelligent and engage the audience with their quips and banter. It is hard to find movies like this now so when I stumble across one I must share it with you.

Overall a good installment to my random Movie Monday. Check the movie out and let me know your thoughts.
