Movie Mondays: Haunter

Random Movie Mondays is here and this week it is the movie Haunter. It was released in 2013, directed by Vincenzo Natali. The movie was written by Brian King and Matthew Brian King and premiered at SXSW. IMDB Storyline: The ghost of a teenager who died years ago reaches out to the land of the living in order to save someone from suffering her same fate.

My Thoughts: The movie is interesting. I first thought it was some weird Groundhogs Day movie but I found that it is more than that. Each day Lisa (Abigail Breslin) is forced to relive the same day in what appears to be the mid 80s. The weird stuff starts happening early which is good. I do hate when a movie drags, especially a ghost movie.

Slowly the routine day begins to change. It takes on a sinister tone as each day repeats itself. An odd man (Stephen McHattie) shows up and tells Lisa to ignore the voices and odd things that happens otherwise her family will be in danger.

I must admit the movie does get confusing at times but I like that this movie is told from the point of view of the ghost. The last time we had a movie like that was The Others but the difference for this one is that the ghost is aware and knows she is contacting the living. The first physical contact with the living is a powerful moment in the movie. The character of the odd man adds a great dynamic as he tries to keep Lisa in check and stop her from contacting the living. When you realize what is going on you realize how twisted the movie truly is.

It had a great ending. I do enjoy a great ghost story. It is hard to find original ghost stories so I was happy that I came across this one. Check this movie out and share your thoughts in the comments.
