Game of Thrones S4 Ep.9 “The Watchers on the Wall” Review

Recap: This entire episode was about the battle at Castle Black.  Gilly makes her way back to Castle Black with her baby.  Sam takes them to hide in the castle while the battle against the wildings begins.  Sam finally kisses Gilly.  Jon Snow leads his men in the battle.  About five men die while holding a giant back from the gate.  There are deaths on both sides of the battle.  Most notable is the death of Ygritte.  Jon Snow holds her as she dies from her arrow wounds.

Review: Characters are being killed off left and right.  I was sad to see Ygritte die, but I had a feeling either she or Jon Snow was a goner this episode.  Their complicated love affair was bound for failure.  Finally, Sam shows his true feelings for Gilly.  I’m not sure what this will mean for his future as a Night’s Watchman.

I understand that characters have to die in this series eventually, but I’m not sure if they are being replaced with new characters that are interesting enough.  I still love the show, but I am starting to wonder where the storyline will go from here.

What is next for the Night’s Watch?  Will the last episode of the season give us an update on Arye, Sansa, and Dany?  Will Tyrion be killed off?

One more episode to go…
