Book Review: Skin Game

Amazon Storyline: Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day. Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful. Mab has traded Harry’s skills to pay off a debt. And now he must help a group of villains led by Harry’s most despised enemy, Nicodemus Archleone, to break into a high-security vault so that they can then access a vault in the Nevernever. Problem is, the vault belongs to Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld. And Dresden is dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Dresden’s always been tricky, but he’s going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess.…

My Thoughts: I will admit that I stopped reading the series after Ghost Story. The book went way to the left and turned me off to the series. However I heard that Jim Butcher was finally releasing another book after a few years hiatus so I decided to pick back up so I was ready for the new book.

The new series leaves off with Dresden being an active knight of Winter and being forced to work with the evil Nicodemus, holder of a Denarian coin. I enjoyed this book as it is filled with a lot of backstabbing and deceit and Harry has to learn how to "not lie" like one of the Fae. I was a bit bummed as we did not see a lot of Molly. The last book left us savoring for any details about Molly to see how she is handling her new role but this book gave us little to nothing.

Butcher did start some great new threads for us to follow into the next book that looks to be slated for a 2015 release. I look forward to seeing where this series will go. What were your thoughts on this book and where do you hope to see the series go?
