The Fantastic Four 2015

Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing aka Marvel’s first family fantastically arrive into theaters on 8.7.15.(here hoping the movie will be better than this intro)

Whatever you think you know or knew about this familiar group of heroes, “FORGET ABOUT IT”(insert movie reference here). A new origin story has been developed by FOX to wash out the after taste of the last 2 incarnations or should I say abominations; Fantastic Four & Fanstastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer. I mean seriously beating a supervillian like Dr. Doom, with a fire hydrant in the first movie was awful! The 1994 cartoon had more in depth battles. The actor who played Dr. Doom; Julian McMahon had better supernatural brawls as Cole Turner aka Belthazor on the series Charmed with 3 witches and a network television budget. Then in the sequel, the Silver Surfer defeats one of the most powerful beings in the universe; Galactus with his own power. (but I digress)

                                       The first FF movie attempt

Lets not soon forget the Cheesy unreleased 1994 film, executively produced by Roger Corman and Bernd Eichinger who went on to produced the 2005 adaptation. (No, i’m not making this up but I wish I was.)

You know it's bad when The Human Torch douses his flames for “stars and stripes” (Marvel Vs Capcom reference… check) as Captain America, which proved to be a run away hit (arguably the second time around) with a highly anticipated “triquel “ (not a real word who cares, this blog says IT IS and we coined it first)

As per IMBD: Four young scientists achieve superhuman abilities through a teleportation experiment gone haywire. They must now use these abilities to save the world from an uprising tyrant.

Wikipedia states the following: When four people teleport to an alternate universe, which alters their physical form and grants them new abilities, they must learn to harness their abilities and work together as a team to save the Earth from a familiar enemy.

My Thoughts

After we get closer to release more photos and details should become available. Although the teaser is not revealing much I an interested in seeing how FOX plans to salvage this franchise especially with the Human Torch being played by actor Michael B. Jordan, a fan favorite from the movie Chronicle among other work he has done. Reboots if done correctly can inspire a new cult following of Geeks. Look at the Chris Nolan Batman Trilogy especially with the iconic/critically acclaimed Joker performance portrayed by the late Heath Ledger which earned a posthumous Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (arguably he should have won for Best Actor as he MADE the movie a success and a classic) The same could be said for Man of Steel reboot which Chris Nolan also had a hand in. (Superman Returns was not mentioned as it does not deserve any recognition whatsoever, I am still waiting for my refund)

I recommended we give this movie a try (Geeks Unite), I know “ Fool us once…” which Fox did not once but twice. Nonetheless I am ready to let bygones be bygones and embark on a new journey with a new cast and new origin story.

As always Geeks & Geek Lovers, Please post your comments below.

Marvel's Ant-Man Thoughts

It's official Ant-Man, will premiere on the Big Screen 7.17.15. Marvel has decided to go with the Scott Lang version of Ant-man which is a bold move due to Dr. Hank Pym being the more well-known version. Rest assure Dr. Hank Pym will be involved in the mentor capacity. As per IMBD Ant- Man will be  “armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.” Check out the trailer below:

According to Wikipedia Scott Lang a former burglar or current burglar stole the ant-man armor from Dr. Hank Pym and use the equipment to save his ailing daughter but Pym saw the potential for good in him and allowed him to keep the suit with the condition of helping others.

My Thoughts:

I am only familiar with the Dr. Hank Pym/human mutate version with genius level intellect who goes through many different super-hero incarnations with costumes changes, spends time as a super villain, is married to the super-heroine The Wasp aka Janet Pym and creates Ultron at least he does in the comic books. I am not sure Ant-Man is a character strong enough for a stand alone movie, especially this version.

I can definitely see him in the role of a supporting character linked popularly as a member of The Avengers but I guess only time will tell. Marvel produced a runaway hit with Guardians of the Galaxy which surprised us and garnered a sequel. Maybe they can do it again but the trailer leaves a lot to be desired. At this point I am more interested in a Hawkeye movie or in the Marvel Agents of Shield TV series, which I am looking forward to the season premiere on 3.3.15. Nonetheless, Paul Rudd will be starring in the lead role and is credited with co-writing the screen play. (Narcissistic Much?) Who knows maybe the former Clueless star is the only one who can bring this character the theater fame he deserves. I won’t bet on it.

Will you be seeing this movie or will this Ant ruin your picnic?

Captain America: Civil War

SONY and Marvel team-up for Captain America 3 bringing us the civil war storyline and if Captain America: The Winter Soldier( which I watch over and over on 3D Blu-Ray) was any indication then you know this will be EPIC on so many levels providing that both entities can agree on Spider-man’s role. Speaking of “role” with Andy Garfield gone (Good Rittens), the person playing Spider-Man is still up for grabs with rumors of Teen-wolf and Percy Jackson alum being considered to takeover. (Details in previous post) Spider-Man is crucial character if you are familiar with the comics.
Since 3 is a crowd, it doesn’t seem like Fox will make this a  “insert choice French words here” as they own rights to Mr. Fantastic who is also an intrigue part of the civil war conflict. Mr. Fantastic aides Iron Man in opposing Captain America and creates the prison; 42 in the negative zone used to capture superheroes who are taken down in battle for not agreeing to register their services with the government. He also uses that God’s Complex of his to create a clone of the God of Thunder to tips the odds ever in their favor. (Hunger Games Punn not intended)
Will they be able to pull this movie off without all of the influential protagonist? Or will they pull the wall over our eyes like they did with that undesirable interpretation of The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 (super letdown)?
According to IMBD, Following the events of the Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.
Marvel knows how to keep an interlocking story Arc going as seen in their comics and movies. This set-up deviates from the comic in which an inexperienced group of heroes goes up against powerful villains that claims the lives of those involved and a significant amount of innocent bystanders which sparks public outcry and prompts reform to ensure this tragedy doesn’t happen again by becoming organized and registering with government agencies.

I think Regardless, Hero vs Hero outside of Marvel vs Capcom is enough to satisfy any true Geek’s Galactic size appetite. Hopefully this storyline corresponds with Marvel Agents of Shield again which will continue to renew interest in the show.

Maybe the success of this movie will Spark Fox and Marvel to collaborate  on the Avengers vs X-Men storyline that is wildly popular in the comics.
The countdown begins… more info will be provided as it becomes available.

Who should be the next Spider Man?

MCU Spider-Man

With Tobey Maguire’s finished cinematic trilogy and the end of Andy Garfield’s reboot, who will replace Peter Parker?  Fan picks and rumors are all abuzz as Captain America: Civil Wars is slated for theatric release in May of 2016.

First Round Draft Picks for Peter Parker

Dylan O’Brien
The 23 year old Teen Wolf- Alumn (Patiently waiting for Season 5) makes a convincing argument by playing Stiles alone. Paired with his starring role in Maze Runner and its sequel Maze Runner:Scorch Trials, we know he is ready to expand on the big screen.

Logan Lerman
The next 23 year old on our list has an expanding move career but is best known for his titular role in the Percy Jackson films, which you either hate or love. Who wouldn’t love to see him trade in his demi-god power of commanding the sea for commanding web-shooters?

With the push for diversity in the cinema world especially after a lack luster of “equal opportunity” nominees  at the 2015 Oscars, it would stand to reason that Miles Morales (fan favorite I might add) may also be a candidate to be in the running for Marvel’s Next Top Super-Hero in Captain America: Civil War.
For those of you not privy to the Miles Morales/ Spider-Man, here is a quick overview: An Oscorp scientist uses a deceased Peter Parker’s( who died instead of Gwen Stacy in this universe) DNA to recreate the formula that created Spider-Man. The formula is stolen, a spider escapes and bites Miles Morales (please don’t try this at home) and instant new Spider-Man. (really a spider boy but you get the picture)

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is an actor, rapper, writer, comedian and producer. All of that talent makes for a powerful debut of Mile Morales.

Marcus Scribner currently starring in Black-ish represents what depth an unknown actor can bring to the table. (stranger things have happened)

As always please relay your comments below.

The Walking Dead S5, ep. 11 "The Distance" Recap

Maggie and Sasha return to the barn and they have Aaron in tow. He wants them to audition for membership to his camp. Rick and group are skeptical about what Aaron has to offer. He offers safety and shows pictures of how the walls are reinforced. Rick knocks Aaron out while he is talking. Michonne and Rick shared a look and she fusses out him that it was he is an "okay guy look". (this moment made me giggled). Aaron wakes up and is now tied up. Rick asks him how many of his people are out there. Aaron admits to providing the water and watching them for quite some time. He notes they are survivors and do not turn on each other. Aaron finally admits that only one other person is out there. Michonne tells Rick they need to find out if it is for real. They plan to investigate.

Michonne, Glenn, Maggie, Rosita, and Abraham go to investigate where Aaron claims his partner is. Judith is crying and Aaron says to take the applesauce out of his bag. Rick forces him to eat the applesauce first. Group A show up and see the cars from Aaron's partner. There's a car and Winnebago. Rick and group claims the food. Michonne says they need what Aaron is offering and they are all going. Aaron refuses to tell them where the camp is and they plan to take an alternate route there. Michonne questions whether or not Rick truly meant it when he said they are going to the camp. Rick reminds Michonne of Woodbury and Terminus and how they were quiet when they first arrived there, he doubts there is any good safe place. Aaron, Michonne, Rick, and Glenn are all in the car riding to the camp. Michonne looks at the pictures and asks him the questions once they realize that the pictures did not have any people in them. As they drive they run into a horde of zombies and the car gets covered in blood. They stop and notice they are separated from the group. The car will not start. They see a flare and Aaron says it is over and to let him out. He takes off running. They chase after him into the woods with the horde of zombies around them. Glenn gets separated from the group. Glenn comes across Aaron who has a walker after him. He saves him and Aaron says they can make it together.

Rick and Michonne are surrounded by walkers and worried about Glenn. Glenn and Aaron show up to save them. Rick threatens Aaron if this turns out to be a trap. The group gets reunited. Aaron is looking for Eric (partner). Aaron is upset to see that Eric has a broken ankle and kisses him. Aaron and Eric have a great moment reuniting. Rick walks in and Eric greets him warmly. Aaron says the debt will be paid when they get to Alexandria. Rick wants to keep Eric and Aaron separate but Aaron says he will have to be killed to keep them separate. Glenn reasons with Rick to let them be together. They are on the road in the morning. Aaron tells Noah that they have a doctor that may be able to help with his limp. Abraham notices the battery is low in the car and says he believes they will make it. Of coarse the battery dies. Glenn points out that they just need another battery and points out where one is. (Awe, Dale and his camper!) They arrive to Alexandria and they hear kids playing. They are happy and finally believe they will be safe.

My Thoughts: I like that they did not immediately believed Aaron. Rick was cautious while Michonne was open to the idea that there may be other good people like them out there. I enjoyed watching Michonne take her place as Rick's right hand. It is a shame that they destroyed Andrea's character as she is supposed to be his left. I guess you cannot have too many strong female characters. I look forward to seeing how Alexandria plays out for the group. They are catching up quickly to the comics, I wonder where it will go in the end.

Book Review: Twice Bitten

Twice Bitten is a gay paranormal book written by David Ferraro. An entertaining fast pace story line revolved around what else but a human, vampire, and were-wolf love triangle refreshingly told from a gay perspective. Eat your heart out Twilight Fanfiction! David delivers it all in this book - action, hope, romance, and the consequences of these occurrences. All the elements to an engaging supernatural power struggle page turner.

Boy (Jessie) meets vampire (Kurt). Boy meets wolf (Lane). Mortal enemies fall in love with Boy. Boy is unable to choose between his new forbidden love interests until the stakes are high and a common foe has to be vanquished before the decision is made. After the plot twist ending, fans are demanding a sequel. As of 2015, David has stated the following “I have played around with a few ideas for a sequel to Twice Bitten, but nothing feels right at the moment. If inspiration strikes, I will definitely put it out there, but for now, I’m concentrating on other projects.”

It’s up to the fans to rally for support on the follow-up book to motivate those creative juices but in the meantime feel free to check out other narratives from David Ferraro as I am sure you will not be disappointed.

The Vampire Diaries S6, Ep. 15 "Let Her Go" Recap

Important Moments: Show starts with young Caroline and her mother. Sheriff Forbes is treating her scratches from falling off her bike. She says she will always need her mother. Caroline wakes up from that dream and everyone is at the house, Tyler, Matt, Elena, Stefan, and Damon. Damon is struggling to write the eulogy. Damon gives words of wisdom about the worst day. Caroline is working on her list of all the things she needs to do. She organizes the group to help with the funeral. Past Bonnie is making the video and she has her magic again and plans to go home. Jo is sick and Ric is caring for her. Kai shows up and says something is wrong and starts puking blood. Kai points out that he may be dying and if he does so does everyone else in the family. Young Damon in the past is talking to Stefan about preparing the speech for his mother. Present has Stefan and Damon talking again before a funeral. Damon tells Stefan to think about what he wants or not pursue Caroline. He tells him to let her be today.

Caroline blurts out to Elena that she kissed Stefan. Elena says to worry about it tomorrow. Jo is examining Kai. Kai goes crazy and says Jo needs to give him her magic. Turns out there are multiple prison worlds and they will collapse if he dies. In Bonnie's world the eclipse disappears and it starts to snow. Elena tells Damon she is concerned that Caroline is not handling the situation well. Elena gives him courage to finish the speech. He flashes back. Young Stefan is standing over the grave and he is upset that Damon missed the speech. Present Damon finally knows what he wants to say. Ric tells Jo to do what she thinks is right. Stefan shows up to the church. Caroline presses for an answer from Stefan but he tells her that they should talk after she gets through this. (obviously the wrong answer). Caroline walks up to the casket and you see her Mom in her dress blues. Bonnie is confused about what is going on and then we see the northern lights and she goes to a house and realizes that she has been moved to 1903.

Tyler shows up to the church drunk and Matt tells Tyler him that he can not come in. The minister is doing the sermon and all the cops stand up to pay tribute to her mother. (Tears). Damon delivers the best Eulogy. He is able to make Caroline feel loved by her mother. Caroline gets up and sings a song for her mother. Matt sits down to talk to Tyler who is now sober. Matt shares that he is motivated to become a cop. He grabbed a copy for Tyler. Caroline is ready to leave the grill. She says she needs to be alone and hugs Elena and says thank you for all that she has done. Bonnie is walking around the creepy house which has a picture of Stefan and Damon when they were human.

Jo does the spell to give her powers to Kai. Bonnie's world shakes and she runs out and ends up in her world. She sees the eclipse is about to end and is running trying to get to the spot so she can try to get out. She does the spell even as she flashes from world to world. She sees a woman who asks who she is just as she is transported out. The woman is dressed from 1903. Kai feels so much better, he says congrats to Jo and whispers something in her ear. He says have a good life and leaves. Jo is pregnant. Ric proposes but turns out he had a ring and was going to propose the whole time. Jo says yes. Stefan tells Damon nice speech. Damon says he failed Stefan for not doing the speech at their mother's funeral. Stefan really thinks that him and Caroline can turn into something good. Stefan plans to tell her and leaves Damon at the bar. Caroline arrives home. (Sad song plays in background). Elena shows up and says she does not believe Caroline is fine. She knows that Caroline is about to turn off her emotions. Caroline believes her experience was different. Caroline points out how everyone escapes grief and she wants to do it. She needs the pain to be gone. Caroline breaks down crying and Elena refuses to let her turn off the switch but Caroline breaks her neck. Damon arrives home and sees Bonnie making pancakes. They hug and bond! Good feels!!! Stefan shows up to Caroline's and sees Elena on the floor and Caroline is gone. Bonnie shows Damon the video of the woman as she was leaving the prison world. It is Damon's mother that was trapped in the other prison world!

My Thoughts: Talk about a tear jerker episode! Jo is pregnant! New generation of Gemini witches anyone? Damon's speech was so well done! Caroline's song was awkward I am not sure why that was even in there. OMG! Great ending! I knew that would be their mother once they focused on her death and mentioned other prison worlds. Now we must find out why she was trapped in the prison world. Is she a witch? What did she do? Why the fake burial in the past? What do you think is going on?

Experience Kirby’s Most Clay-Ful Adventure Yet

From having Kirby ride on hamsters to turning him into yarn, Kirby games have always experimented with inventive visual styles and unique game play. Launching for the Wii U console on Feb. 20, the visually striking new adventure Kirby and the Rainbow Curse finds players controlling Kirby exclusively using the touch screen on the Wii U GamePad controller in a world made of clay. By drawing lines on the touch screen with the stylus, the player creates Rainbow Ropes that will help Kirby navigate obstacles and defeat enemies. Three friends can hop in and out at any time using Wii Remote controllers to play as Waddle Dees and assist Kirby, and players can even use compatible amiibo figures once a day, per stage, to power up Kirby with special abilities.
“Kirby and the Rainbow Curse kicks off another absolutely stellar lineup of Wii U games for this year,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “In the first half of the year alone, Wii U owners will be able to adventure with Kirby, party down with Mario and his friends in Mario Party 10, build levels in the Nintendo eShop-exclusive Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars and experience Nintendo’s newest IP with the action-packed Splatoon.”

Unlike other games in the Kirby series, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is set in a beautiful “clay-ful” world. The controls are also easy to pick up for all types of players, since the game is played exclusively on the touch screen of the Wii U GamePad. The Rainbow Ropes will guide Kirby in the direction players want him to go, and drawing ropes in creative ways like a loop will even give Kirby a quick speed boost. Strategy not only comes into play in guiding Kirby, but also in the amount of Rainbow Ink used, as drawing Rainbow Ropes uses precious ink. By staying on the ground or collecting an ink bottle, players can refill the Rainbow Ink quickly. In addition to moving Kirby around, Rainbow Ropes can be cleverly used to solve environmental puzzles. Using a well-drawn rope can block a waterfall or uncover hidden areas.
Instead of his traditional copy abilities, Kirby can transform into powerful vehicles. As a tank, Kirby will move automatically and players must tap on the GamePad touch screen to shoot at approaching enemies. When traveling through the depths as a submarine, Kirby will move to the spot players tap on the touch screen. And as a rocket, drawing Rainbow Ropes will help navigate him to the goal.

Anyone that wants to experience Kirby and the Rainbow Curse with friends or family members is in luck! Up to three additional players can join the adventure at any time. As the player who controls Kirby draws Rainbow Ropes and taps the GamePad, other players use Wii Remote controllers (sold separately) to play as friendly Waddle Dee characters to assist Kirby and help discover the game’s numerous collectibles. While ultimately everyone works together to reach the goal, each player’s collected stars will display at the end of each stage, encouraging a little friendly competition.
Kirby, King Dedede, or Meta Knight amiibo can each be used once a day to power up Kirby with special abilities. By tapping a Kirby amiibo to the Wii U GamePad, players receive an unlimited Star Dash within a stage, which usually can only be activated by collecting 100 stars. A King Dedede amiibo outfits Kirby with a hat that grants him six health bars instead of the normal four. And the Meta Knight amiibo gives Kirby a mask that lets him use a fast dash that blasts right through weaker enemies.Kirby and the Rainbow Curse launches for Wii U on Feb. 20 at a suggested retail price of $39.99. The game will also be available for purchase in the Nintendo eShop and at Nintendo.com.

Movie Review - Kingsman: The Secret Service

IMDB Storyline: Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency's ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

My Thoughts: The characters were fun to watch on screen. Eggsy (Taron Egerton) pulled off the smart mouth young adult quite well. Harry Hart (Colin Firth) worked well as the refined super spy that takes the young smart mouth kid under his wings. Mark Hamill was a surprise in this movie. I did not realize he was in it and did not realize even after the movie ended. Maybe if I played closer attention but he did not look like Mark Hamill, I am now concerned for the new Star Wars movie but I guess that is a discussion for another day. Now, the most important role in the whole movie, Valentine played by Samuel L. Jackson. When I first saw the trailers for this movie I was very confused by Jackson's outfit choices in this movie. He looks like a 1996 rapper from New York. Actually he reminds me of Russell Simmons now that I think about it. He has his hat tilt to the side and everything. Then to make it crazier he has a heavy lisp! I was distracted from the movie because of it.

The story overall was fine. I found Valentine as the villain funny and his explanation for world destruction was as kooky as it needed to be. The violence was on an extra level and I can understand why the movie was rated R. There is a moment at the end where the violence goes to a level that I was not even prepared for and you will find yourself giggling. Overall I would say if you love action movies, definitely check it out. If you are looking for a heavy duty classic spy movie then this one really is not for you.

The Walking Dead: S5, Ep. 10 "Them" Recap

Show starts with Maggie crying (Don't cry now for your sister! You were only worried about Glenn before!). The group is getting low on water and food and it is starting to wear on them. The team is on foot with walkers behind them. Father Gabriel tries to reach out to Maggie to offer her comfort. She gets mean and turns on him and reminds him of his faults. Carol and Daryl have a heart to heart as they scavenge for food. Rick and team make a standoff against the walkers and use a bridge as a way to get them off their path. Sasha messes up the plan and starts killing them and almost stabs Michonne and cuts Abraham. Michonne gets her to stop. (*rolls eyes* at Black women standoff, did it really have to set up like that, geez). They find an abandoned car with a female walker tied up in the trunk. Glenn takes care of it for Maggie.

Daryl comes up on a dead deer and a walker that has been shot in the head while looking through the woods. Wild dogs come up on the group. Sasha takes them out quickly with a gun. Rick grabs a stick and they eat the dogs. They are all still walking down that road. Maggie starts talking about Beth (again I have no sympathy for her as she did not show she cared for her sister before she died, do not do it now). Glenn gives the typical keep fighting speech. Daryl splinters off from the group again and finds a barn. He sits down for a smoke. He puts the cigarette out on his hand (here is where you dig deep for symbolism of that act). He breaks down crying. Daryl comes back to the group. They found a sign that says from a friend. It is a load of water. Eugene goes to take a sip but it is smacked out of his hands as it is not safe. The heaves open up and it begin to pour. The whole group is happy except Maggie, Sasha, and Daryl. They begin to collect the water but hear thunder and lightening and make their way to the barn that Daryl found. They find shelter in the barn. Rick gives his thoughts on adults versus kids growing up in this world. They all chime in. Rick talks about being the ones to survive and how they are the Walking Dead. (deep my brother *snaps fingers*).

Daryl is on night duty. He notices a large group of walkers outside the barn. He and Maggie try to hold the door closed. Sasha ruses to help. Finally the whole group is galvanized to help. Carl puts the baby down to help. The next day, Maggie wakes up and finds herself looking into the eyes of Judith. Maggie sees that Daryl is awake also. Daryl says how both Tyreese and Beth were tough. Maggie goes over to wake up Sasha. They go outside and see that mother nature came down and killed the walkers. There are fallen trees everywhere.  Maggie takes Sasha to watch the sunrise. They have a heart to heart about "making it" and how it is hard to do. Maggie pulls out the music box Carl gave her and Daryl apparently fixed but it does not work when she opens it. A random guy comes up to them and they pull their guns. He says he is a friend. He says his name is Aaron and he wants to speak with Rick. Out of nowhere the music box starts working.

My thoughts: There were a lot of hear to hearts in this episode. It was slow paced and like these type of episodes tend to do the most important moment happens in the last 2 minutes. We get to meet Aaron for the first time. Comic book readers I am sure are excited as we know where this is heading. There were times where I wanted to smack both Maggie and Sasha but oh well.
