Movie Review: Jupiter Ascending

IMDB Storyline: Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

My Thoughts: The movie is stunningly beautiful. You will enjoy the action sequences. The over the top fighting and chase scenes were great. The big orchestra type music made you feel like you were in a Star Wars type movie. I will be honest with you. This movie is not your typical straight Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie. It was more a Fantasy Romance movie. If that is not your cup of tea then I would not recommend this movie for you. I enjoyed it because I enjoy reading books like that. This movie has a lot of emotion and a love story happening during the sci-fi stuff. Think of it as a Twilight for Outer Space. Kunis and Tatum's love story is the center of the movie. I will admit it seems extra forced and made you question how they had an epic love story after only a few hours but I guess it is best to not ask those type questions. Overall the movie had great parts and even had a DMV joke. Plus I want a pair of Tatum's flying boots.

Lets make the review simple, if you liked Twilight then this is the movie for you, if not then you should pass and check it out when it is on Netflix. If you saw the movie please leave your thoughts in the comments.

  1. Solid Matinee. I agree with your points and just want to add that one of my problems with the movie was to many plot threads going on and it made the movie feel a little disjointed to me. Movie is beautiful and the action sequences are awesome.
