Nintendo to Celebrate Upcoming Launch of Splatoon by Making a Big Mess

On May 15, Nintendo fans will gather in Santa Monica, California, to witness one of the messiest video game spectacles in history. In honor of the May 29 launch of the Splatoon video game for Nintendo’s Wii U console, Nintendo has invited teams of celebrities to participate in the Splatoon Mess Fest event as they navigate a massive ink-filled obstacle course inspired by the game. Best of all, teams will compete in various events inspired by elements found in the game featuring colorful, splattering ink iconic to Splatoon. Odds are things will get messy and colorful – fast.

Celebrities scheduled to appear at the event include Disney’s Joey Bragg (from Liv and Maddie). More details on how fans can win a chance to participate in the game-themed course will be revealed in the future.

The public is welcome to come watch people get inked, Splatoon style, as they go through the course. Attendees can also be among the first to try the game’s Turf War multiplayer mode before it launches nationwide on May 29. Spectators will also receive special Splatoon T-shirts while supplies last. Fans who aren’t able to travel to the event can still follow all the colorful action by keeping an eye on Nintendo’s social media channels on May 15. The event takes place on the Santa Monica Pier, the traditional end of historic Route 66, from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m.

Splatoon is a wild new game from Nintendo that combines the creative and family-friendly fun Nintendo is known for with ink-spraying, turf-claiming action. In the game, players take on the role of the Inklings, customizable characters that can transform into squids at the touch of a button. After splatting opponents and covering a level with colorful ink, players can transform into squids and swim quickly through their own ink or use it to take cover and hide from enemies.
