Minecraft Update Delivers Redstone, Rabbits, New Skins to Windows 10 and Pocket Edition

Energize your worlds with the latest free update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition and the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta. Players now in either of these versions can start making wonderful creations with basic redstone components, explore new desert temples, collect four types of cute, fluffy rabbits, spruce up dwellings with five new door types, download new biome settler character skins and more.

Redstone Circuits
  • Today’s .13 update is sure to light up your life by delivering one of the most player-requested features for Windows 10 and Pocket Edition – redstone. Mining blocks of this very useful, rare material produces a substance called redstone dust. This dust can then be used to carry signals between objects and build some of the more advanced items in Minecraft. Players can make a wire out of redstone dust by placing it on blocks next to each other. By adding a redstone signal and components, players can create anything from doorbells to switchable lights to mob grinders to rollercoasters.
  • The .13 update brings the first of three groups of simple redstone items to the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta and Pocket Edition including redstone wires, redstone torches, redstone lamps, levers, buttons, pressure plates, tripwire hooks, note blocks, trapped chests, detector rails and TNT. But don’t worry- Minecrafters who’ve already mastered advanced redstone can look forward to advanced blocks like Pistons, Repeaters and others are planned in future updates with the final two groups of redstone functionality.
Desert Temples and Rabbits
  • Redstone is a huge, much-awaited update, but we’ve also got icing to put on top of the cake! While exploring desert biomes, players may find mysterious desert temples emerging from the sands. Built from sandstone, these structures offer adventurous Minecrafters a chance at grabbing some valuable loot – provided they can make it out in one piece. Players will also now find six types of adorable, cuddly bunnies hopping around their Minecraft worlds. We’ve invested the most sophisticated in revolutionary Bunny AI Technology to ensure that, just like in real life, these skittish bundles of fur will help themselves to your crops when they are hungry. Cute, but destructive!
Biome Settlers
  • Also available today, the Biome Settler Pack I ($1.99 USD) – the first of a series of forest, tundra and desert biome-inspired skin packs, adds more than two dozen new character skins to the game. This new skin pack brings a slew of new settler characters like archers, hunters and brewers into the game, offering Minecrafters biome-themed skins they can use to roleplay with their friends.

The Walking Dead S6, Ep. 8 "Start to Finish" Recap

The episode begins with Sam in his room still refusing to go downstairs. He is playing music that is mighty creepy. There are a bunch of ants swarming over half-eaten food left in his room I am guessing this is the writers being heavy handed in terms of showing us ants and understanding the swarm of zombies are doing the same....descending upon food. The watch tower has fallen and the walkers are now coming in. Rick is telling everyone to get back and Deanna is out there with her pea-shooter. Carol and Morgan are running and somehow Carol falls which is just not believable in my opinion. Maggie half runs and falls which again does not make sense (did everyone forget how to get away from walkers? When did the women become so accident prone?) She gets on top of one of the look out spots.(It is extra dramatic for no reason.) Eugene is hanging out and watching as the walkers go by. He is saved by Rosita and Tara. They find shelter in a garage. Michonne shows up to help Rick, she has Ron, Gabriel, and Carl with her. Jessie is able to help them and they all run into her house.

Glenn plans how to get in and is trying to motivate Enid to help. (is he truly that stupid, why are you forcing a teenager to do this) He tries to pull the motivational speech on her. They do this slow motion under water thing with Sam seeing the madness going on in his home. (annoying and not effective.) Carol and Morgan are holed up and she refuses his help for the bump on her head. She admits that she does not trust him. Denise is downstairs with the Wolf. She tries to talk logic but the man is crazy. He shows her the wound and she notes that if he wants he can change. Deanna was hurt in the leg but also bitten. Rick is trying to come up with a plan with Jesse. Deanna talks about what she wants and Michonne is asked what she wants. (I'm bored).

Carl goes to look for Ron. He finds him in the garage. Ron is extra dramatic but Carl claps back at him and Ron starts talking crazy about how he is dead. Ron locked the door and pulls a gun. He goes after Carl with a shovel. Carl is fighting for his life and this attracts zombies. The zombies are now in the house. Carl lies and says they were looking for tools and covers for Ron. Carl pulls a gun on Ron while they are in another room and says for him to hand over the gun. Carl is brutally honest with Ron and shows himself as the Carl that I know from the comics finally! The walkers are being drawn to the house. Rick hears Judith crying and finds Deanna leaning over her crib. He goes to kill her but she is still human. Sam is still listening to the music which makes no damn sense. Inspirational speech moment by Deanna she tells him that all the people are his people and he is one of them. Tara, Eugene, and Rosita moment talking about the need to fight for the town. Back to Carol and Morgan. She tricks him and attacks him and makes a run downstairs. She tells Denise to get away from the wolf. Morgan tells Carol that this should have waited which I agree. They do not have the time to be worried about his one wolf when the town is covered in walkers. Morgan and Carol are facing off over the walker. Morgan and Carol fight and Carol gets knocked out, Morgan gets knocked out by the wolf, and Denise begs for their lives. Tara, Eugene, and Rosita come face to face with the wolf who takes Denise as hostage.

Jesse's house is overrun and they all make a dash upstairs and Rick has a new plan that involves two walkers. Rick plans to gut the walkers to wear them so they can get out. (The stupid music is still playing). Michonne talks to Deanna and Deanna says she will end it herself. and it is her life from start to finish. (I guess we now know where the episode name came from). Sam sees everyone painting themselves with guts and Jesse tells Sam that he has to be brave and be one of the monsters. They team preps themselves to walk out covered in gore. They make their way through the crowd. Glenn climbs a tree and sees Maggie is safe. As they are going through the crowd Sam starts calling for his mom and the episode ends.

Fangirl Thoughts: I am beyond annoyed a Carol. How stupid is she that she wants to do that fight which basically sets up for the wolf to get away. The women in this episode fell down while running way too often. I was annoyed at that as well. Also if you know that your son has series issues why didn't they plan better. It might have been easier to just knock his ass out and drag him along. Now he is going to attract attention to them. The mid-season finale was quite boring in my opinion. I am just as invested in it. The whole season they were too heavy handed with inspirational speeches and the set up for events were not done well. Oh well, what did you think?

Battle of Shadow and Light Update for Halo 5: Guardians Brings Big Team Battle Mode, New Weapons, and Armor

The release of free, post-launch content for Halo 5: Guardians begins this month with the first drop: Battle of Shadow and Light, which includes the stealthy new “Shinobi” Ninja-themed armor, some legendary Light Rifle firepower and perhaps most importantly, the arrival of Big Team Battle maps, modes and mayhem.

There are tons of new items added to and unlocked in this month’s drop, including all-new Ultra Rare and Legendary items, such as Shinobi armor and the Dying Star Light Rifle (to name but two). We have Tundra and Woodland-themed skins, a brutal (and occasionally hilarious) Shove-It assassination and dozens more items to unlock, discover and utilize.

Big Team Battle is the cherry on top, and you’ll recognize elements and aspects of the first four maps in the mix, but all four have been, in varying ways, significantly adjusted for the new mobility, weapons and features of Halo 5: Guardians – and all are available in both Customs and matchmaking, and present just a hint of the content featured in next month’s Forge mega-drop.

For more details about the Battle of Shadow and Light content for Halo 5: Guardians please visit Halo Waypoint.

Doctor Who Season 9 So Far by P. Ray

Last year Peter Capaldi brought the Doctor back to his roots - less cuddly, more alien. Some Classic Doctor Who fanatics, like me, saw it as welcomed return to form. This is not a sleight on David Tennant or Matt Smith, but as much as I enjoyed their portrayals of the old time lord, I had always felt that it was missing some much needed grumpiness.

Capaldi and the writing team may have taken it too far though, and bordered on making The Doctor unlikable for the new Generation of Whovians, who still had stars in their eyes from the last two incarnations. Season 9 has been an attempt to find a middle ground where both sets of fans can be happy. No more, "shut ups,” and, “no hugs," and a little more of, "I love my job of Time Space hero extraordinaire". Peter Capaldi still manages to deliver some great cynical one liners, lest people forget that The Doctor's experience and knowledge are vastly superior to anyone within an infinite radius, but he is also more likeable. And that little bit is important. It gives a sense that we want to go on the next adventure with him.

The writers have also done well to break a good deal of the episodes this season into two parts, a welcome call back to earlier Doctor Who, which could take up to 5 or 6 installments to develop a story. My biggest gripe with "New" Who was how rushed it all felt in order to wrap things up in 42 minutes. Usually this manic pace led to a lot of shouting, screaming, and unnecessary amounts of Timey Wimeyness. This season we have been treated to steady character development and detailed exposition. It allows us to care more about what is going on. The season opener, for example, managed to make The Daleks interesting again, and not just a ratings gimmick. We had enough exposition to care about Davros and his manic plans, and enough time to digest all the different twists and surprises the writers could stuff into the two-parter.

Another important point regarding the writers is quite simply their quality of work on Season 9 of Doctor Who. Last season Capaldi brought the character of Doctor Who out of the mire of teen angst, breathing much needed fresh air into the Time Lord, but people behind the scenes were still a bit off as far as supplying the story-lines to match his excellent talent. This season it seems that these kinks have been ironed out. This has been one of the most well produced and written series of Doctor Who since a certain Capt Jack Harkness was riding around in the great blue box.

Speaking of great companions, that is all the show is missing right now. As much as I have enjoyed Clara's development, I think she has become too much of an equal. Though, I appreciate this line of trust The Doctor has for her, as he has had for other great companions in earlier his incarnations, it is also interesting to put him in the TARDIS with someone who will still be starry eyed when they discover that it is indeed bigger on the inside. Here's to a bright future for one of televisions most enduring characters, and most entertaining sci-fi/fantasy series.

VERTIGO ANNOUNCES NEW HORROR SERIES ‘THE DARK & BLOODY’

On February 10, ‘The Dark & Bloody,’ a new haunting monthly horror comic series from writer Shawn Aldridge (Vic Boone) and Scott Godlewski (Copperhead), with covers by Tyler Crook (Harrow Country), will join Vertigo's refreshed slate of titles. Guns, moonshine, monsters–there’s a lot going on in the backwoods of Kentucky. Iris Gentry is a war vet who returned from Iraq to find his options for feeding his family limited. Since they live in a “dry” county, Iris has turned to running moonshine for his former ranking officer–meaning the men now share crimes at home and abroad. You see, back in their combat days, Iris’ regiment got involved in something they shouldn’t have, and now a deadly, otherworldly consequence has come looking for vengeance.

"The inspiration came from my own childhood in Kentucky, local folklore like the Bell Witch, and Southern Gothic fiction," stated writer Shawn Aldridge. "I tried to distill what I loved and feared growing up in and around the woods into this story. Granted I never made moonshine or had to protect my family from a demon hellbent on my death, that I created for the story."

"'The Dark & Bloody' is right in my wheelhouse, artistically. It's exciting to be working in the horror genre again and I think readers will really dig what we're doing," mentions artist Scott Godlewski.

Lookout for the new series when it hits shelves in February.

Developer's Corner: Melee Handbook

Tell me a little bit about your company and the founders?

I don't know if you'd call it a company, it's just me and my computer, along with my friends who helped gather resources and make the app look as professional as it does. ThatKawaiiGuy was just the name I used for everything at the time (and still is) so I just thought to make it that since I'm already associated as that in the android dev world.

Tell us all about Melee Handbook?

It's an app aimed at helping players learn and improve. It offers information from baiting to V-canceling, offers info on matchups, frame data for top 12, gifs displaying techniques, 150+ terms of slang and such to help out new players, and stretches to make sure you stay healthy. I've even had 2 of the top 30 players approve of it, Zhu and Chillindude.

What made you decide to develop a handbook for Melee?

It first started out as a little "let's try this" when I was first learning app development, just made a list of techniques that linked to the corresponding wiki page when clicked. But then as I made it, I  realized that it'll work really good at a huge scale, so I went on with it.

What is the vision of your company? What do you hope to achieve?

I want to get bigger than I am now, as in not just be a niche app Dev. I already have a plan for my next app, although that will take some time. My dream is to work at Google, but that seems far from now so I just wanna have a few apps under my name that all perform and rate extremely well and this is a great start. So I'm very happy.

What is your website? Contact information?

Sorry no website right now, but anyone with questions can hit me up at my email ivanthegreatdev@gmail.com, my twitter is @ThatKawaiiGuy.

Fun questions time! What is your first memory of gaming?

I'll always remember my dad coming home holding a GameBoy Advance. It came with some Mario game I don't remember.

I'll also always remember my cousin giving me The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap for Christmas at my Grandma's get-togethers she always has on Christmas.

Favorite Video Game of all time?

Oooooo. Good question. It'd have to be Metroid Fusion. That game just terrified me as a child and I still loved it. I still beat it every few months.

Additional Comments?
The two things this app has helped me learn (other than a lot of other stuff)
1. Melee is extremely far from being optimized completely, after 14 years the game still has a lot to go before it's final.
2. Yoshi is fricken awesome.

Stay fresh everyone.

Thank you to Ivan for this awesome interview and providing some information behind Melee Handbook. It is currently available for Android and will be available soon for Apple Devices.

Play as a Fan-Favorite Pokémon in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

Nintendo 3DS Game Features Every Known Pokémon – All 720 of Them! Have you ever wanted to be a Pokémon in a world inhabited by nothing but other Pokémon? That’s the premise behind the fun new Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon game, now available for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. After choosing to play as one of 20 fan-favorite Pokémon, including Pikachu and Riolu, you embark on a journey to discover a mysterious force that is turning Legendary Pokémon into stone. In addition to being able to play as a Pokémon, the game features all 720 known Pokémon from every game in the series, including Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. How you discover or interact with these Pokémon is part of the fun!

As you journey through the game, you will enter a series of Mystery Dungeons with randomly generated interiors – meaning you will never play through the same dungeon twice! With the game’s near-infinite replay value, a new adventure awaits you around every corner. “Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is one of the most exciting and transformational entries in thePokémon Mystery Dungeon series,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Whether for yourself or the Pokémon fans in your life, the game is a great gift idea this holiday season.”

Traveling through a series of mysterious and twisting dungeons might sound like a dangerous task, but no need to fear: In the game, you can befriend different Pokémon and have them join you on your quests. You can also collect items to equip and use while fighting enemies in engaging turn-based battles. During these battles, strategy is key, so you’ll want to make sure to bring along the right type of Pokémon when you enter each Mystery Dungeon.

With the new Connection Orb – a giant galaxy-like map that connects you with other Pokémon and gives you new quests to complete – you’ll befriend Pokémon and conquer dungeons in no time at all. You’ll even get to battle alongside Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, and combine the moves of your team to unleash attacks that will knock out even the mightiest Pokémon foe. For a limited time, when you purchase Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon in stores, in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS or at Nintendo.com at a suggested retail price of $39.99, you will also receive a free theme inspired by the game for your Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu. Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay pt. 2

AMC Synopsis:
The blockbuster Hunger Games franchise has taken audiences by storm around the world, grossing more than $2.2 billion at the global box office. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY-- Part 2 now brings the franchise to its powerful final chapter in which Katniss Everdeen [Jennifer Lawrence] realizes the stakes are no longer just for survival -- they are for the future. With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow [Donald Sutherland] in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends -- including Gale [Liam Hemsworth], Finnick [Sam Claflin] and Peeta [Josh Hutcherson] -- Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to liberate the citizens of Panem, and stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY-- Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Danny Strong and features an acclaimed cast including Academy AwardA-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Academy AwardA-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone with Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland reprising their original roles from The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The impressive lineup is joined by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1 co-stars Academy Award A-winner Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross.

Fangirl Thoughts: The conclusion to the Hunger Games franchise was everything you expected it to be. The book annoyed me to no end with all of the indecisiveness by Katniss and she pulls the same crap in the movie. One moment she kisses Gale and the next she kisses Peeta in front of Gale. If you ignore those moments then you will enjoy the rest of the movie. The sad loss of characters upsets you even if the deaths feel rushed.

The epic battle leading up to the fall of President Snow is well done. You truly feel the tension as they group just struggles to live and you can't help but to chant Kill Peeta already. The ending of the movie was for the most part good and you get your happy ending. Overall the characters stick to the general gist of the book and you are satisfied with the movie. I enjoyed the movie and I look forward to whatever prequel that they come up with. Let's be honest, everyone else is doing a prequel why wouldn't they do the same for this series.

Check out the movie and let me know what you think.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Review by Jarrett

What is the game you picked up and on what system?
Black Ops 3 (Xbox one)

How is the storyline?
So I haven't really played the story mode as much as the multiplayer. However I will get around to it at one point. It's the first online campaign mode in which you can play with four friends online.

How are the graphics?
Graphics are great for the game - highly pleased.

Would you recommend this to others and if so why?
It depends if you are looking for a classic COD feel that's not what you are going to get. It is leaps and bounds better than AW and Ghost which is good the online game play is smoother, but the new features are refreshing more than just terrible as in AW.

Favorite part of the game?
The different classes in multiplayer that have different story special features so you can have a character tailored to your game play.

What is the replay value?
On a scale of 1-10 I'd say 8,

Did you pick up the game on Day One and if so what made this a day one purchase for you?
I would have picked it up day one, but I got my days confused and picked it up the day after. I don't think there is a big draw to buy a COD game day one except that you can get a jump on leading maps and prestige faster uncovering weapons quicker than the people who picked up the game a day later.

Did you own previous installments of this game and how does it match up with its predecessors?
Well for predecessors I guess we would be talking about the Treyarch installments of BO1, BO2 and now 3. BO1 of course was the best with the addition of zombie and the great maps and gameplay. BO2 was good in the fact that it was the beginning of futuristic weapons and gameplay but it wasn't over the top and too unrealistic very fun game to play. BO3 so far is another great installment from Treyarch.

Other comments?
It's been losing its popularity lately with just awful games  like Ghost, AW, etc. BO3 so far has been a huge leap better than the last two COD games. It maybe too early to tell, but so far I give it 3 thumbs up out of 4.

The Walking Dead S6, Ep. 7 "Heads Up" Recap

Episode starts with us watching as Glenn is trapped and able to slide under the dumpster. (Which we all guessed - soap opera death anyone?) The zombies finally trickle away and Glenn is able to pull himself out and Enid throws him a bottle of water from a nearby roof. He climbs into the house and Enid tells him to take a water and go. He tries to find out if Maggie is okay but he gets no answer. She takes off. (waste of time in my opinion. He could just head back to town instead of dealing with a messed up teenager). Back in town - Rick says that he needs to talk to Morgan eventually. Rick sees Maggie standing watching at the top of the wall. Rick shares some inspirational words and moves on that they have to figure out how to get the walkers away. Rick rips down a sign of a prayer circle that Father Gabriel has put up. Rick takes Ron and Carl out to learn how to shoot. (Carl gets annoying with adding in his own personal zen gun toting advice).

Morgan stops by to see Denise. He says he is fine but does not explain why he is there. Rick finds him and wants to talk. Rick talks about the wolves getting him on the RV. Carol is there and they are questioning him about letting people go. Michonne is in on the interview as well. Morgan asks why Rick did not kill him in the past as part of his logic to why he did not kill. They question whether he can hold on to his idea. Michonne questions Rick about not involving the townspeople. She feels as though they should involve them in the plan of drawing off the walkers. Rosita is teaching the townspeople how to deal with a walker. She starts being preachy to Eugene about the hard part is living. Enid is holed up in a restaurant. Glenn shows up and stops her from walking out into the walker infested street. Glenn wants to help her and she is annoying and refuses his help and resorts to pulling a gun on him.

Glenn takes the gun and tells her to come on and she is still being bratty asking why. More annoying moments between Enid and Glenn. He talks about living and survivors guilt. I am guessing this is the whole theme of the episode. Ron pulls a distraction and grabs some bullets for his gun. Glenn and Enid finally show up and they see all the walkers surrounding Alexandria. Enid wants to walk away but Glenn gives another inspirational speech about fighting to save the world. Rick sees Spencer shimming across a rope over the walkers. He falls like an idiot and Rick tires to pull him up while everyone else shoots at the walker (moment of blood on the camera as always) Tara gives Rick the finger after he yells at her for risking her life to save Spencer. Rick lays into Spencer for his stupid decision.

Morgan shows up again to talk to Denise. He asks about treating an infection and lets her knot that it is not his wound. Carl sees Morgan and Denise exit the house and follows them while holding baby Judy. Sam asks innocent kid questions that talks about killing and becoming a monster. Carol confronts Morgan about keeping someone in the cell. Ron is stalking Carl with a loaded gun. Michonne studies the expansion map. Everyone stops when they see the group of balloons float into the sky as a sign from Glenn. The watch tower then falls and breaks down the walls letting in the walkers.

Fangirl Thoughts: Well we now know what happens to Glenn. It was a bit predictable and I am feeling a little let down. I wish they did kill him, that would have added some spice to the show. I like things not to be predictable. A soap opera death is always annoying to the watcher. If they were supposed to have the watcher feel a connection between Enid and Glenn it fell flat and forced. I enjoyed watching Carol chasing after to find out what Morgan is up to. I did not like them interrogating him. It felt wrong for them to turn on one of their own. I overall was okay with the episode. I am hoping for a very certain moment to happen now in the finale. Everything is set for it to occur so hopefully it happens and the tv network does not back down from it.
