PENCIL HEAD SCRAWLS A LOVE LETTER TO THE COMICS INDUSTRY

The new semi-autobiographical series from Ted McKeever hits stores this January

Cartoonist Ted McKeever returns with an all-new love letter to the comic book industry in PENCIL HEAD, set to launch from Image Comics/Shadowline this January. In PENCIL HEAD McKeever explores the whacked-out world of the comic book industry. Readers journey along as witness to protagonist Poodwaddle's trials and tribulations of working—and sustaining—his place in the absurd world of comics, where what happens behind the scenes is far more twisted, and bizarrely hilarious, than anything on the printed page.

“As the old saying goes, write what you know. And after working in the comic book field for the last 30 years… Well, that's exactly what I'm doing in Pencil Head,” said McKeever. “I've combined personal industry experiences, along with a more bizarrely esoteric subplot, to create a autobiographical stew of behind-the-scenes happenings, mixed with my usual brand of oddities, and weirdness. Enjoy.”

PENCIL HEAD #1 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, January 20th.

Halo 5 Review with Jay

What is the game you picked up and on what system?

I picked up Halo 5 on the XBONE.

How is the storyline?

The story is pretty good, it picks up right where Halo 4 left off. If you haven’t played Halo 4 and you are into the story of Halo you will need to play that one as this game directly references that one.

How are the graphics?

The graphics are awesome. The character models look fantastic and the environments have a familiar yet brand new feeling to them. There was a lot of mocap work involved and it was done great.

Would you recommend this to others and if so why?

If you have an XBONE this is a game that will go great in the library. The campaign is co-op which is always a good thing in my opinion. The multiplayer (which most people come for anyway) is addictive and fun. Warzones and Arena are my favorite two multiplayer modes so far.

Favorite part of the game?

In a word WARZONES. That multiplayer mode is a lot of fun and there are always differing objectives to keep you on your toes. The addition of bosses in the mode also makes things very interesting.

What is the replay value?

Multiplayer mode is where the value lies in this game. As much as I enjoy the campaign mode, the bread and butter of this series is its online multiplayer.

Did you pick up the game on Day One and if so what made this a day one purchase for you?

Yes, I did pick it up day one. I ordered the Special Edition on Amazon. Even if I didn’t this game would have been a Day One buy for me. There are a few game series that are Day One purchases for me and this happens to be one of them.

Did you own previous installments of this game and how does it match up with its predecessors?

Yes, I do own previous installments. In all honesty it feels like a continuation of the story that was set up in the very first game. In my opinion, each game has gotten better so I am enjoying it and looking forward to the series evolving.

NOWHERE MEN RETURNS, WELCOMES NEW SERIES ARTIST

The bestselling, fan-favorite series welcomes new artist and a new story arc

Bestselling writer Eric Stephenson, Publisher at Image Comics and co-creator of THEY’RE NOT LIKE US, teams up with new artist Dave Taylor, the returning Eisner Award-winning colorist Jordie Bellaire (PRETTY DEADLY, THEY’RE NOT LIKE US), and Fonografiks for the eagerly anticipated new story arc of NOWHERE MEN. The next chapter of the Eisner Award-nominated series will begin with NOWHERE MEN #7 and will hit stores this January 2016.

"It's very cool to work on something you admire,” said Taylor. “My respect for the first series is making me work extra hard to fulfil Eric's concept to the end, in fact, this is the best work I've done for years."

Best known for his work on Batman and Judge Dredd, British artist Dave Taylor will join the creative team on the fan-favorite series that follows scientists Dade Ellis, Simon Grimshaw, Emerson Strange, and Thomas Walker’s rise to fame and simultaneous fall from grace when World Corp.’s more unorthodox experimentations begin to go awry.  Stephenson added: “It’s really exciting to finally be returning to Nowhere Men. I’ve admired Dave’s work since I first saw it back in the ‘90s, so learning that he was a fan of of Nowhere Men and interested in working on the book was nothing short of amazing. It’s awesome to be working with him, and I’m looking forward to seeing how his style develops as we further explore the landscape created by World Corp.”

NOWHERE MEN #7 begins an all-new story arc and picks up where NOWHERE MEN, VOL. 1’s cliffhanger ending left off and will feature art by Emi Lenox (PLUTONA, EMITOWN) in the form of the sketch diary of Emerson Strange’s daughter.

NOWHERE MEN #7 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, January 13th.

The Walking Dead S6, Ep. 6 "Always Accountable" Recap

As Sasha, Abraham, and Daryl are driving the zombies they find themselves being chased by some gun wielding crazies and end up being separated. Daryl is now on his bike all alone looking pretty bad. He ends up in a burnt our area in the forest where there are a lot of bodies. He is now alone and is unable to contact Sasha. He ends up knocked out by a group that he comes upon. Apparently the group set the forest on fire and killed most of the walkers. The group makes it to their destination and realize their loved one is gone. While they are distracted, Daryl takes off running with their bag of supplies. He realizes that in the bag is insulin which must be for one of the individuals in the group. Sasha and Abraham are trying to track Daryl. Abraham and Sasha leave obvious messages to Daryl since he is a tracker. They decide to stay in an office building. Inspirational talk between Abraham and Sasha. I zoned out because it was boring and I am tired of the Orpah speeches. Daryl runs into the group again and gives them the bag back. A truck and some guys show up and saying that they owe them and they didn't earn what they took. Daryl sees that there are more people in the woods. He helps them get away. They hide out in the woods. The bad guys leave after saying it is not worth it and "he only wants ass that is willing". (I am guessing who they may be talking about).

Abraham is out and about and finds some quality weapons as well as some nice cigars. Abraham climbs out on a ledge and takes on a zombie and has a moment before backing off and leaving him. he watches as the zombie in the end slips and falls. Now Abraham has a bazooka. Another moment between Sasha and Abraham that I zoned out on again. Back to Daryl with his new found group. They come upon and notice that there are two bodies that are burned and trapped in glass. The one girl goes to lay flowers at their friends and ends up being attacked and dies. Daryl asks the three questions and wants to bring the guy and girl back to Alexandria. They turn on him and take his bike and crossbow. He says they will be sorry. Daryl ends up back where he started and finds a truck. He arrives to pick up Abraham and Sasha.

Fangirl Thoughts: My dear friend Ruth pointed out an important moment of the show in which I was going to gloss over. Daryl is no longer the weird out of shape skinny guy that we once knew him as; he is wearing his little sleeveless ensemble and is looking toned and cut. I will admit I was surprised by this development. Yet I am not because we can all guess that this is Reedus's last season so he is getting ready for upcoming press junkets for movies.

There was maybe only 5 minutes worth of watching in this episode. I was bored yet again. Oh well, it will pick up soon.

DEADLY CLASS LINES UP FOR A NEW STORY ARC

All issues will include extra art content not included in the trade volumes. Bestselling writer Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, TOKYO GHOST) and critically acclaimed artist Wes Craig (BLACK HAND COMICS) will launch a new story arc in their ongoing cult-hit drama DEADLY CLASS this December. Previously in DEADLY CLASS, homeless orphan Marcus Lopez joined a shadowy school specializing in training the next generation of the world's deadliest assassins, thinking he had nothing left to lose. He quickly discovered how wrong he was, finding himself forced to fight off a drug cartel amidst his own wanton self-destruction.

In DEADLY CLASS #17, The King’s Dominion school grounds become a killing field, and Marcus Lopez is hunted by his classmates for their final exam. Onetime friends and lovers become hunters in the dark, brandishing blades, bullets, and a burning desire to become best in class.

"The boiling point has been reached. We wanted to take our time before smashing the trains together for the battle royale, to earn it by building the cast and their emotional connections and drama, and this is it. It's a horrifying chapter in the student's lives, but coming out the other end of it there's a moral to all of the horror,” said Remender. “Wes and Jordan haven't looked better, but if you're a fan of good art you don't need me to tell you that. But I did anyway in case you aren't. So there."

“Things have been pretty intense for our main cast right from the beginning, but this new story arc is really where it all comes crashing down.” added Craig. “Death, destruction, betrayal—all that good stuff.”

DEADLY CLASS #17 hits stores Wednesday, December 16th.
