Oculus Quest 2 Review

I received an Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas and conducted a review.

I must be honest it is not as easy as you think to stream with and you will have to spend money to get set it up but it can be done.

Will you be picking up an Oculus?

Mobile Game: Fire Emblem Heroes First Impressions

Nintendo launches its next adventure when Fire Emblem Heroes arrives soon on mobile. Fire Emblem Heroes is an original strategy RPG about two warring kingdoms in a bitter clash. As a summoner, players build their army by calling upon popular Fire Emblem heroes from worlds that span the breadth of the series. Players will wage tactical battles streamlined for on-the-go play and level up a mix of new combatants and legendary heroes. Some familiar hero characters will become allies, while others will become enemy generals.

Players can enjoy the full majesty of tactical role playing on bite-sized maps designed to fit nicely on a smartphone screen, even when playing in short bursts. Players lead their armies with easy touch-and-drag controls, including the ability to attack by simply swiping an ally hero over an enemy. If they manage to defeat every enemy on a given map, victory will be theirs.

The heroes are depicted in new art hand-drawn by a variety of illustrators, and their voices have been newly recorded. Beyond the main story mode, players can engage in other modes to strengthen their army or to compete against others. Free and timely updates will add new characters and content for additional hours of gameplay as well. Fire Emblem Heroes will be available as a free download with optional in-app purchases available. Visit the Fire Emblem Heroes website for details. - fire-emblem-heroes.com/

Fangirl Thoughts:

I will be honest, I have not played a Fire Emblem game. I however am aware of the series and since I have enjoyed the Nintendo mobile games so far, I figured I would download this game as well. The gameplay is easy to pick up. It is a simple tactical role playing game that looks and works great on the mobile device.

As the “summoner” of the group it is your job to summon strong heroes to the team to help in the battle. In the game you obtain orbs that help you summon the heroes. The drop rates for the classic heroes are very low so keep that in mind that you will be working to build up characters with the hopes to gain a strong character in a summon. I am sure you are wondering what the heck those feathers that you keep gaining but do not see anywhere to use them. The feathers can be used once a hero reaches level 20 and help them gain additional abilities and strength.

At this time it does not appear to be any way to interact with your friends but it looks like the ability will change in the future which will be great.

So far I have been lucky and have won all my battles but I am sure I will go up against a group that will smack me down and I will forced to go to the training arena and just work to make my characters stronger.

The game is free to play so definitely check it out and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Game Review: FFXV First Impressions

Game Overview: Is the fifteenth main installment in the Final Fantasy franchise. It is an open world action role-playing video game with an action-based real-time battle system. The game takes place in the fictional world of Eos. You play as the main character, Noctis Lucis Caelum, heir to the Lucian Throne, who goes on a quest to retake his homeland. You are accompanied by your three companions, Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto. You navigate the large world by foot, the party’s car, Regalia, or chocobos (who have the ability to join into fights).

Fangirl Thoughts: I am currently level 43 and on Chapter 6. I was doing a lot of side quests but due to events in Chapter 5 I was forced to play that chapter versus more running around and it looks like I may have to do the same for chapter 6 since there are no more quests or hunts available to me. This is my first Final Fantasy game. I have always watched my brothers play the game but was not interested due to the battle system. Once I heard that the battle system would be action based I decided to give the game a try. I also have been playing more JRPGs lately and figured that it was time to get into one of the iconic RPG games.

The game is visually stunning and even one of the characters, Prompto, enjoys taking pictures that you can save and share on social media. I like that you are friends with everyone in your party and know them well. The game has a lot of the classic RPG aspects such as gaining Experience points-XP but you have to camp or stay at an inn in order for it to be tallied so you can level up. You also gain Ability Points-AP which can be used on the skill tree system.

The game is so fun to play and I have over 40 hours into it. My strategy is to do all the side quests as possible before I advance the storyline but I have come to realize that you will be forced at certain points to advance the storyline so be prepared. I am currently 15 levels over what is needed for the current story.

Each character has personal hobbies that they enjoy that you level up. I enjoy fishing so this game was already a win for me. Noctis continues to grow as an angler. Gladiolus likes to explore and picks up items, Ignis is the cook of the group and is always coming up with recipes that will prepare you for fights with awesome boosts, and Prompto takes pictures.

I was actually talking to a few people about Prompto. He is by far the weakest of the group and always the first to jump in the fight and be on the brink of death. Some players actually just let him die and refuse to waste potion on him which I find hilarious.

Overall I am enjoying the game so far. I do need to improve my finesse in regards to my fighting. I have always been more of a brute fighter so it will be quick and messy but I get the job done. I know I will eventually go up against an enemy that requires strategy but until then I will keep relying on my strength and potions to win the battle.

There are many DLCs to come with the potential online co-op ability. So this game will be played for awhile for me personally.

What are your thoughts on the game thus far?

Mobile Game Review: Super Mario Run

Game Overview: Super Mario Run is a side-scrolling auto running mobile game by Nintendo. Released first on iOS and will later be released for Android devices in 2017. Free to play with a game purchase that unlocks all levels. Mario automatically runs from left to right and auto jumps on his own to clear small gaps or obstacles. Player must touch the screen to make larger jumps. The goal is to get Mario through the level in the fastest time, collecting the most coins, defeat enemies, and collect special coins.

Fangirl Thoughts: The game is visually stunning with very clean lines. I like how easy it is to play and becomes quickly addictive as you are trying to collect the stupid special coins. The game is not as easy as you think which ups the replayability factor. There is a feature in the game called Toad Rally in which you compete against other players (ghost version of the player) and try to collect the most coins. If you succeed then you gain the extra toads to your kingdom, however if you fail you will lose toads so take your time and make sure you can beat the opponent that you chose. You also have the ability to play other characters besides Mario once you unlock them.

The game also lets you build up your kingdom so this added feature makes you want to make your kingdom look nice. You can utilize the coins you have collected in the runs to buy buildings. Some buildings cannot be unlocked unless you have the required number of toads.

Overall I think this is a good mobile game to have on your phone. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

Game Review: Rune Factory 4

Story line: The game begins with the player selecting a line of dialogue, deciding their gender. As they are heading to meet a native dragon to give a gift, but the player's airship is invaded by rogue knights. The player was hit in the head, causing amnesia, as has been the case with all previous Rune Factory mobile installments. The player was thrown out of the airship, where the player lands in the town of Selphia, where they are mistaken for a member of royalty who was supposed to be showing up soon to help run the town. Although this is quickly revealed not to be the case, the actual prince, named Arthur, was due to arrive is happy to let the player take over his job. From there on out you are to attract tourists, gain trust from the villagers in Selphia, and work around the town to unlock features needed to carry on with the slice of life aspects of the game. At the same time, you will find a mysterious force at work in the nearby dungeons that is in need of investigation, with some monsters turning into humans upon their defeat. You may also date a bachelor or bachelorette, get married, and have one child. Characters from Rune Factory 2 and 3, Barrett and Raven, appear as cameos and can be recruited into a players party for dungeon exploration.

Fangirl Thoughts: I picked up this game after I went through a withdrawal from playing Fantasy Life. I wanted a game that let me fight but at the same time do simple things like build a life. This game has it all. You have to farm and take care of livestock. You have to cultivate relationships and you can even do this to the point that your character gets married. I will admit I am pursuing the guy that looks like he is part fox or something. You also cook and forge your own weapons. I will admit that I am bribing the guy I like with sashimi. I think I almost have him in love with me so we shall see where this goes.

The fighting style for the game is great and I enjoy the ease you can pick it up. There is magic as well so you can utilize that if you are not into sword play. I messed up early on because I leveled up quick and when I finally went up against a boss that I could not beat with brute strength and magic I realized that I should have been taking the townspeople on adventures so they could level up. You are allowed two people in your party so pick wisely and kick butt!

The story is compelling as you try to save a dragon. (yes a dragon) I will not reveal any more than that but you learn a lot about your character as they slowly work through the amnesia you have from falling from a flying ship (yes I said a flying ship).

If you like games that have more than just fighting and let you level up your character while doing other aspects then this is game for you. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Minecraft Story Mode Review

Story line:
In Minecraft: Story Mode, playing as either a male or female hero named 'Jesse,' you'll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse's friends discover that something is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and you must set out on a quest to find The Order of the Stone if you are to save your world from oblivion.

Fangirl Thoughts: I have held on to this review because I was waiting until the final episode came out but I figured just go ahead and update this later. I will admit I was a bit skeptical to see how this would all work but surprisingly TellTale games was able to pull together a great compelling story line that grips you quickly and leaves you addicted to each episode. I became very invested in the characters early on. There are five episodes all together and I have played the first four while I wait not so patiently for the last one.

The game has a choose your fate set up. Basically during a dialog you are forced to choose quickly one of two options and the person you are talking to will remember your choices so choose wisely. (frankly I always choose the more positive path so once the game is done I will choose the darker path to see where that leads me.) The fight sequences forces the player to press an action button and depending on your timing or lack thereof you may end up dead so be quick! I may have died once or twice since I was on my phone and not paying attention.

Overall this is a great fun game that takes the beloved characters from Minecraft and give them a personality that you will become attached to. I will admit I did not think that I would become so attached to Rueben but I could not help it. I even have a Rueben key chain. I look forward to seeing how they wrap up this game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Review by Jarrett

What is the game you picked up and on what system?
Black Ops 3 (Xbox one)

How is the storyline?
So I haven't really played the story mode as much as the multiplayer. However I will get around to it at one point. It's the first online campaign mode in which you can play with four friends online.

How are the graphics?
Graphics are great for the game - highly pleased.

Would you recommend this to others and if so why?
It depends if you are looking for a classic COD feel that's not what you are going to get. It is leaps and bounds better than AW and Ghost which is good the online game play is smoother, but the new features are refreshing more than just terrible as in AW.

Favorite part of the game?
The different classes in multiplayer that have different story special features so you can have a character tailored to your game play.

What is the replay value?
On a scale of 1-10 I'd say 8,

Did you pick up the game on Day One and if so what made this a day one purchase for you?
I would have picked it up day one, but I got my days confused and picked it up the day after. I don't think there is a big draw to buy a COD game day one except that you can get a jump on leading maps and prestige faster uncovering weapons quicker than the people who picked up the game a day later.

Did you own previous installments of this game and how does it match up with its predecessors?
Well for predecessors I guess we would be talking about the Treyarch installments of BO1, BO2 and now 3. BO1 of course was the best with the addition of zombie and the great maps and gameplay. BO2 was good in the fact that it was the beginning of futuristic weapons and gameplay but it wasn't over the top and too unrealistic very fun game to play. BO3 so far is another great installment from Treyarch.

Other comments?
It's been losing its popularity lately with just awful games  like Ghost, AW, etc. BO3 so far has been a huge leap better than the last two COD games. It maybe too early to tell, but so far I give it 3 thumbs up out of 4.

Halo 5 Review with Jay

What is the game you picked up and on what system?

I picked up Halo 5 on the XBONE.

How is the storyline?

The story is pretty good, it picks up right where Halo 4 left off. If you haven’t played Halo 4 and you are into the story of Halo you will need to play that one as this game directly references that one.

How are the graphics?

The graphics are awesome. The character models look fantastic and the environments have a familiar yet brand new feeling to them. There was a lot of mocap work involved and it was done great.

Would you recommend this to others and if so why?

If you have an XBONE this is a game that will go great in the library. The campaign is co-op which is always a good thing in my opinion. The multiplayer (which most people come for anyway) is addictive and fun. Warzones and Arena are my favorite two multiplayer modes so far.

Favorite part of the game?

In a word WARZONES. That multiplayer mode is a lot of fun and there are always differing objectives to keep you on your toes. The addition of bosses in the mode also makes things very interesting.

What is the replay value?

Multiplayer mode is where the value lies in this game. As much as I enjoy the campaign mode, the bread and butter of this series is its online multiplayer.

Did you pick up the game on Day One and if so what made this a day one purchase for you?

Yes, I did pick it up day one. I ordered the Special Edition on Amazon. Even if I didn’t this game would have been a Day One buy for me. There are a few game series that are Day One purchases for me and this happens to be one of them.

Did you own previous installments of this game and how does it match up with its predecessors?

Yes, I do own previous installments. In all honesty it feels like a continuation of the story that was set up in the very first game. In my opinion, each game has gotten better so I am enjoying it and looking forward to the series evolving.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Review

Nintendo Overview: Two worlds collide in an all-new adventure set in the world of Super NES™ classic The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™. In this newly spun tale, Link™ transforms into a living painting to cross into a dark, parallel dimension mirroring Hyrule. Conquer the puzzles, traps, and hidden rooms of deadly dungeons to save both worlds from certain doom! Brought to life in 3D, this beloved, top-down world is the perfect backdrop for a sweeping new tale. Dungeons sink deep below the screen as Link and his attacks pop out, highlighting the nonstop action. The pace is faster than ever, especially since you can swap items on the Nintendo 3DS touch screen. Shoot an arrow, toss a boomerang, bomb a wall, then merge into a painting to slide between two worlds - all in a matter of seconds. With gameplay, visuals, and controls this smooth and consistent, no Zelda™ adventure has ever been so action-packed.

Fangirl Thoughts: I know you think this review is late. I will admit that I did pick up the game on time. I had it on day one it just took me forever to play it because I was too busy playing Fantasy Life. Then despite the fact that I had a lot of work to do I decided to start this action adventure and then I was hooked. I did not play A Link to the Past but that did not stop me from playing this installment of the series.  Rovio is a cool bunny character that you let stay at your house. Then he sets up show and begins to sell weapons. In this game you do not just gain the bombs, boomerang, etc. Instead you rent them from Rovio or buy them a large cost.

Story: Link is tasked with saving Zelda and the seven stages with some guidance from Hilda from Lorule. Did you see what they did there? Hyrule has Zelda and Lorule has Hilda. This alternate world is dark and destroyed and mirrors Hyrule. You travel to that world through breaks in the current world. You get a very trippy visual every time you travel between worlds but it is fun nonetheless. There is a great twist at the end and I really enjoyed this story line.

Top-Down View: It has been awhile since I played a game that was this type of view but I will admit I did enjoy the change. It did make the fighting easier as you did not have to always worry about targeting. The drawback is that you have to get used to understanding where you are walking especially when walking a thin beam.

Side quests:
My favorite side quest was Mother MaiMai and finding all her adorable children. You had to constantly go between the two worlds to land just right so you could find them stuck on walls or under rocks. If you collected at least ten then your weapons would be upgraded. There were a hundred to collect.

Overall this game was enjoyable. I would recommend it to anybody that is a fan of the series. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Splatoon: An in-depth review

SPLATOON

11 Weapons. 4 Maps. 3 Amiibo. 2 Match Types. 2 Splatfests, 1 Campaign, and over 200 hours later by DrFeelGood

Well here we are. An in-depth review of one of the most controversial games of the 8th generation. Its been a while since my impressions review before the game’s release. While there are those that say they will wait until the full game comes out, I say it’s their loss.

NEW SHOOTER INKOMING
For those that know nothing about and/or do not follow gaming, Splatoon is a 3rd person shooter that released on May 29th developed and published by Nintendo exclusively for the Wii U. It sold over 1M units in less than a month. It is rated E for Everyone. Think about that. A shooter…that anyone…can play. The focus is covering the most turf with your team’s ink which doubles as your ultimate weapon and defense. This game possesses the same flair and addiction that Mario Kart and SSB has. Easy to pick up, understand, play, and enjoy. However, it is hard to master. Whats worse is that it is impossible to put down. Don’t believe me? Ask anyone who owns the game. Hell, ask my wife…or me. That 200 hours in the title is my total playtime as of recent. Keep in mind that I do have a social life, fulltime job, and responsibilities…not to mention my own business. In this game, you can be victorious even if you never lay eyes upon or splat any opponent. In fact, avoiding confrontation is essentially encouraged. It is literally the videogame version of paintball with a twist.

INKLOSED CONTENT
In terms of content, many will say that it Splatoon was lacking…especially at launch. However, lets look at things objectively. The game launched with 5 maps, 1 campaign tons of preset weapon loadouts, tons of gear, and one play mode being Turf War. That being said, I would have to agree…objectively. As the days and weeks have gone by, Nintendo has unlocked and/or added various content on a consistent basis from maps and modes to weapons and events. Within launch weekend, the Ranked mode was unlocked which is basically all or nothing. You either earn big winnings while also increasing in rank or lose which gets you nothing at all and a decrease in rank. The current match types available in Ranked Mode are Splatzones and Tower Control. Splatzones require that your team ink and maintain control of specific zones on a map. The team that maintains control the longest wins. Meanwhile, Tower Control requires that you ride a tower directly to the enemy base. The team that rides the tower the furthest towards their opponents base wins. In this mode, inking turf is not needed. Be warned, both these modes basically force all 8 players to a specific area which results in a Splatfest. Pun intended. Speaking of Splatfest as mentioned in the title, there have been two thus far. It is a 24-hour worldwide special event that everyone HAS to play if they want to play the game online during the specified timeframe. Nintendo asks everyone to vote for their preference and it varies by region. In North America, the first was Cats vs Dogs and the second was Roller Coasters vs Water Slides. In Europe, I believe the first Splatfest was Rop vs Pop.

It is the only game which brings everyone together for a common goal through a cool event theme. With all this, there is still more to come as many players are looking forward to the August update which according to Nintendo should add custom matches and allow friends to team up…among other things.

LIQUID INKOURAGEMENT
Before anyone jumps down my throat, know that I have played and invested tons of hours in many shooters…from COD and Battlefield to Halo and Gears of War. Having said that, the weapons and loadouts in Splatoon are the most diverse and balanced of any shooter I have played…EVER. The shooters are the assault rifles made for those who like versatility and love to spray and pray. The chargers are the sniper rifles made for those who love splat from a distance. Lastly, we have the rollers which are basically the shotguns/melee weapons. Those that love to be up close and personal while delivering a single decisive blow will feel right at home. No weapon is overpowered and no loadout is superior. In Splatoon, I can say that I have seen the use of every loadout available. I can say that I personally tried all of them. I can say that with each loadout, I have found myself in both advantageous and disadvantageous scenarios. The sub and special weapons are even more varied and suit any playstyle. If you like to camp (yes camping is possible in this game. I still do it), the ink mine is for you. If you like to lob grenades, you have 3 options: instant detonation, delayed, and sticky. If you like to pressure your opponents, the disruptor is the way to go. As for the special weapons, there is something for everyone. From inkzookas and ink strikes to krakens and killer wails (yes I spelled it correctly), they are all extremely powerful and/or useful. However, the million dollar question is does it come bundled with your preferred weapon? Why? Because the preset loadouts in Splatoon consist of main, sub, and special weapons which cannot be customized. Although frustrating, it creates balance. Some think that the inability to customize your loadout is stupid. Lets examine the game to which Splatoon is most similar…COD. In COD, you can choose your perks, weapon, sub-weapon, and killstreaks. Being objective, I am sure we call all agree that most players online in other popular shooters use similar weapons and loadouts even though they have the option to customize. Most people pick what is obviously the most efficient and most times, it creates imbalance. For example, In MW2, most people used Ninja, Cold Blooded, and Stopping Power. Each weapon, sub, and special needs to be just as useful as the others and Splatoon does this successfully.

FASHIONABLY INKLINED
Next up is the gear. They contain the abilities (perks) that augment your weapons, subs, or inkling. Each piece of gear has one primary perk and can have up to 3 sub perks. The primary yields the greatest benefit compared to the sub perks. The great, but frustrating thing about the gear is that you cannot choose which perks you want…at least not completely. Why is it great? Because it balances the game. Why is it frustrating? Because you typically cannot have the gear you want with the perks you desire. Why? Because the primary perk cannot be altered or transferred and the sub perks are completely randomized. For example, I love the Red Timberland boots, but I do not like the main perk. I have 2 options: loadout efficiency or preferred fashion. Do I wear what I believe is fashionable or wear the samurai outfit with a pair of Chucks and a football helmet which greatly augments my preferred loadout? Now you do have the ability to re-roll the sub perks for 3 more random sub perks, but that costs tons of in-game currency or a super sea shell which currently can only be won via special events. Let me tell you that I have spent over $100K re-rolling perks on a single piece of gear only to get more bullshit I did not want or care for. However, this prevents players from creating overpowered sets of gear. Another great addition is the fact that any duplicate perks yield smaller benefits, so stacking identical perks does not yield great benefits. Law of diminishing returns.

CLOSE INKOUNTERS
Lets talk multiplayer. The game currently has 9 maps to play on and more are coming. If you include the slight variations of those maps in Ranked Battle, you could say it technically has more. Although they may appear to be tailored to specific loadouts and playstyles, I have found myself splattered by someone who used a loadout many players would think is ill-suited for that particular map. Just saying. The strategies are almost limitless…unlike other shooters and are determined by the mode you are playing. I can honestly say that I do not dislike any of the maps. Of course I have preferences, but I enjoy all the maps. The maps change every 4 hours and both modes get their own maps meaning no map in the current rotation will be available in both modes. There are some that do not like the map rotation and I can agree to a certain extent. However, I can understand why Nintendo chose to do it. With there only being 5 maps initially, I think some would grow tired of the online multiplayer quickly. You would see all the maps many times over. This way, it keeps the game “fresh.” It gives everyone equal time to take advantage of, learn, and play the maps. It keeps everyone on the same page. Technically, I am sure it keeps server stress to a minimum. I do however hope they add a third map to the rotation. Nintendo, I hope you are listening. Although there are not many maps even now, no match is ever the same. You can dominate one match and get demolished immediately after. The tide of battle can change at any time. You can literally control the entire match and lose in the last 10 seconds. All it takes it one person and/or mistake. This goes for both Turf War and Ranked Battle. In this game, upsets and comebacks are common…so much so that you are encouraged to give it your all until the timer stops or the match is over. I have literally lost many Turf Wars by 0.1%. I have also been 1 point away from winning in Ranked Battle early in the match only to lose later on. Such scenarios turn even the most disciplined and reserved players into raging sailor mouths. Thank goodness there is no voice chat as everyone online would be banned.

INKREDIBLE JOURNEY
The campaign is loads of fun. Think of it as a tutorial for online play. I recommend completing it BEFORE playing the online multiplayer. It truly teaches you many techniques that are crucial to playing competitively. From beginner moves such as squid jumping to advanced tactics such as bomb throw to jump shooting, you will be pretty good when you play online. As you would expect from Nintendo, it starts out easy and then the difficulty spikes relatively quick. Finding the weakness of every boss is easy although exploiting it can be tough. The best part about the campaign is that you unlock additional content as you complete the various levels. How long has it been since games allowed you to unlock content rather than paying for it? Heads up: the final boss is probably the best of any Nintendo platformer in history.

DLC INKLUSION
Using the amiibo, you can unlock even more content within Splatoon’s campaign to use in online multiplayer. The best thing about it is that content you earn is not overpowered, but definitely not worthless. Each Splatoon based amiibo has an exclusive set of gear for you to earn. It basically has you playing some of the campaign levels again with either a different weapon or parameters/goals. For some, it adds a whole new challenge to the campaign and extends it in a sense. I will not spoil all the exclusive amiibo content, but I find it worthwhile.

MIIVERSE INKORPORATION
As a side note, Splatoon’s utilization of Miiverse is the best in my opinion. It has its own in-game plaza known as Inkopolis which is similar to Warawara Plaza. You will see various inklings of players walking about interacting with each other or doing their own thing such as talking, dancing, or just straight up chillin. Each is wearing the currently equipped gear the player has on their inkling. You can also see their most recent Miiverse post. What’s more is that you can interact with all of them…either giving a “yeah” to their post or scoping out their gear. If you like what you see, you can even order it. Nintendo also places various Miiverse post artwork throughout the plaza and multiplayer maps. Whether you take notice during Turf War is a different story. Its even more noticeable in the plaza during Splatfest.

SUCH DISTINKTION
Looking at how fun, accessible, and addictive Splatoon it is definitely my game of the year. I honestly have not had this much fun in years…if ever. Add to that the amount of content Nintendo continues to provide and you have a game that is definitely worth full price despite its absent features. Nintendo has taken a stale genre and completely turned it on its head. It is THE game of this generation for there is nothing else like it. So…ARE YOU A SQUID NOW or A KID NOW?

Mortal Kombat X (Xbox One Review)

Mack’s Quick Thoughts

Mortal Kombat X is the game that Xbox One fans have been waiting for especially since there are a limited # of games on the system and none that can rival the game play or graphics. Blood, Guts & Glory pretty much sums up this review of the best game on X Box One to date yet I am still holding out for a Marvel vs Capcom 4 or another rendition of Gears of War which are console favorites but I digress. The age progression of mainstay characters is as refreshing as their new characters and faction changes with off course guest characters. Who would have thought Sonja Blade would have become a General and procreated with Johnny Cage to produce Cassie Cagie or that Liu Kang, Earth Realms Champion would become damn near a replacement for Scorpio with other heroes under dark influence, Mortal Kombat’s storyline and content never ceases to amaze me since its conception in 1992 by the now bankrupt Midway for arcade game play which has spawned merchandise, tours comics, movies, tv-series and web series both animated and live-action.

Fun Knowledge: When you first start playing you have to choose to be part of a faction. There are ongoing Faction Wars and if your faction wins that challenge for the time you will get a bonus. The storymode has you playing as various characters after a cut screen occurs. FYI pay attention to the cut screen. Do not look at your phone while it is happening. It is interactive and you will be required to push certain buttons. Same goes in the krypt! Yes, there are things that will attack you, so be prepared. Typical tower climb is there so do not worry. Overall a bloody game so be prepared. They really paid attention to details with this game and you will get to enjoy it!

Mortal Kombat – Mortal Kombat X (Wikipedia)

The series takes place in a fictional universe consisting of eighteen surviving realms which, according to in-game backstories, were created by the Elder Gods. The Mortal Kombat: Deception manual described the six realms as: "Earthrealm, home to such legendary heroes as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, and Jax, and also under the protection of the Thunder God Raiden; Netherrealm, the fiery depths of which are inhospitable to all but the most vile, a realm of demons and shadowy warriors such as Quan Chi and Noob Saibot; Outworld, a realm of constant strife which Emperor Shao Kahn claims as his own; Seido, The Realm of Order, whose inhabitants prize structure and order above all else; The Realm of Chaos, whose inhabitants do not abide by any rules whatsoever, and where constant turmoil and change are worshipped; and Edenia, which is known for its beauty, artistic expression, and the longevity of its inhabitants."The Elder Gods decreed that the denizens of one realm could only conquer another realm by defeating the defending realm's greatest warriors in ten consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments.

Mortal Kombat X sees Shinnok and Quan Chi enacting their plan, leading an army of undead revenants of those that were killed in Shao Kahn's invasion against the realms. A team of warriors led by Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade oppose Shinnok, and in the ensuing battle, Shinnok is imprisoned, Quan Chi escapes, and various warriors are resurrected and freed from Shinnok's thrall. Twenty-five years later, Quan Chi resurfaces and allies himself with the insect-like D'Vorah in manipulating events that lead to Shinnok's release. Though Quan Chi is killed by a vengeful Scorpion in the process, Shinnok resumes his assault against the realms. After a grueling, protracted battle, Shinnok is defeated by an alliance between a new generation of Earthrealm warriors and Kotal Kahn, the new emperor of Outworld. With both Quan Chi and Shinnok gone, the undead revenants of Liu Kang and Kitana assume control of the Netherrealm.

Killing Floor 2 Beta Review

Killing Floor 2 is the sequel to Killing Floor that will have an early release on 04/21/2015. This new addition to the Killing Floor franchise introduces updated graphics, a new perk system, and much more.

Character Models: The first thing you notice with the character models is the choices you have with each different possible character you can choose from. Instead of just choosing a character model and looking like any other player that chooses that model. You can now switch what the head looks like whether it is the whole face or just the hair. You can change the color of your clothes, and add accessories whether it be hats, glasses, or etc. This gives you the sense of the detail that the designers decided to add in this particular franchise update, which makes some people happy to have some uniqueness from others you play with online.

Classes: The current classes are Support, Commando, Berserker, and Medic. Though this is only the beta version with early release scheduled for later this month, I wonder what they are going to do with the other classes they had in the previous version. The current classes have specific weapons where you gain experience from when you use them, and other objectives with experience bonuses like the Berserker needing to kill enemies near other players for bonus experience. Hopefully, there are updates that add more classes cause I always loved Firebug.

Perks: The perk system has an update. It is still based off of experience as in before, but you get to choose different perks which are class specific, instead of just unlocking perks as you level up. You feel the customization, where everyone can play the same class, but can be different with the perks one chooses. That being said, they added skill points to the system which you use to choose the different perks for you class.

New Final Boss: Of course with anything franchise update, you should have a new final boss. The boss feels more interactive than before, with it grabbing friendlies and sucking away their life. Definitely, if people don't know what they are doing, your party will wipe. This boss is definitely fun to fight, and you do feel accomplished when you take it down.

My Thoughts: This is a great addition to the Killing Floor franchise, and it is definitely a great game to have to play with others. It is great to play with friends and family so go pick it up and enjoy, and there is tons of replay value with the current classes they have out now. A good and fun PvE FPS that has a fantastic online multiplayer experience.

Mario Party 10 Review

Mario Party 10 is the first Mario Party game released for the Wii U. It was released on 03/20/2015. This new addition to the Mario Party franchise introduces the use of the amiibo.

Mario Party Mode -There are new boards. We have the regular boards - Mushroom Park, Haunted Trail, Whimsical Waters, Airship Central, and Chaos Castle. These boards are different then your typical Mario Party boards. These boards have all four players riding in a vehicle (you can unlock different vehicles with coins you collect as you play). Sadly because you are in the vehicle you have no control over where you are going unless it is on your roll. There are no longer mini games after every round rather you have to land on the mini-game space in order to play. Also you are no longer fighting for the one star on the board. Instead there are rings of stars on spaces through out the board. As you roll you will gain stars as you go past them. This is a high star game now but you can lose stars just as fast as you gain them. While the vehicle concept is cool for the Bowser Mode, it leaves a lot to be desired for the Traditional Mode. I want my mini-games and to fight for one star on the board.

amiibo Party Mode - This is run more like the traditional Mario Party game when you have mini games after every round. Plus you fight for one star which cost you the typical 20 coins. The addition of the amiibo makes it interesting. You use the amiibo to roll by taping the gamepad. There are boards for every amiibo that is compatible with the game at this time. I did not like how boring the board looks as you can see from the picture.

Bowser Party Mode - This can be an up to five player game with one of the players being Bowser by using the gamepad. The mini-stars are replaced by hearts and Bowser is chasing you down. Everyone rolls the dice and try to get as far away from Boswer as possible and if he catches up the vehicle then a Bowser mini-game is started where players lose hearts if hit. If all hearts are lost then Bowser wins. This mode is fun trying to get away from Bowser but sometimes they stack the game in his favor which I can see players becoming easily frustrated. At that point it is perfectly fine to yell that the game is cheating.

Mini-Games - They are just as fun as always. Same set up as before with your 3 vs 1, 2 vs 2, and 4 for all. The games are beautifully done and you have to use your logic and reflexes to win.

Mini-bosses - There are mini-bosses on some boards. It is fun to face them as you all have to work together to beat the boss. Though the person with the most hits gets coins as if it is a mini-game. The person who gets the last hit on the boss gets extra points.

Stars - You have the additional stars such as the mini-game star, most traveled, least traveled, etc.

My Thoughts: This is a great addition to your social gaming library. There is no online mode so invite some friends over and get to playing. It is great to play with friends and family so go pick it up and enjoy. It is also great for kids so parents pick this one up.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Review

Amazon Story Line:
The best-selling LEGO Batman videogame franchise returns in an out-of-this-world, action-packed adventure! In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the Caped Crusader joins forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics universe and blasts off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. Using the power of the Lantern Rings, Brainiac shrinks worlds to add to his twisted collection of miniature cities from across the universe. Now the greatest super heroes and the most cunning villains must unite and journey to different Lantern Worlds to collect the Lantern Rings and stop Brainiac before it's too late. The game is available on PS4/3, Xbox One/360, 3DS, Vita, and Wii U.

My Thoughts: Great installment into the series. Enough little tweaks to make it worth it and enough classics to bring in and hold the fans attention. The best thing about this new installment of the Lego Batman franchise is the fact that all the suits stay available to you once you unlock them. In other words you no longer have to run around looking for a suit, instead you just push and hold the character switch button and can choose one of the suits that you have unlocked. It makes playing the game easier and more enjoyable.

Puzzles: The ongoing Tron puzzle is awesome. As you find yourself doing a puzzle to unlock a part of the stage, you will have your characters transported into a Tron like puzzle. You have to run and hit certain triggers to move on in the board. It got a little complicated but overall it was enjoyable. The only thing that made me mad is that when you have to save the citizen, Adam West, it feels like it is a bit more complicated than usual.

Pick it up and let me know your thoughts.

Throwback Thursday: Ikari Warriors

Ikari Warriors is a vertically scrolling, shoot 'em up style game developed by SNK and released in 1986. This game was distinct in the fact that it is was two player co-op game. The playable characters are Colonel Ralf (red) and Second Liutentant Carl (blue). The characters did look very Rambo-like as they had black pants, no shirts, and colored bandannas. This game was one of the few games that let players play cooperatively at the time.

You utilized a gun and were able to throw grenades which was always fun. You could also commandeer enemy tanks which was the best. It was sad when the tank would explode after taking on too much damage but luckily you can exit before it blew.

The game had the most classic cheat ever. When you died and it was game over if you pressed A, B, B, A, you would be revived. I remember many times saying A, B, B, A and pressing the buttons repeatedly hoping for my character to respawn. The worse let down is when you did not come back. Check out some gameplay footage below.

What are some memories that you have of this game?

Throwback Thursday: BurgerTime

This game is a classic to me. I think my mother may have boughr this game for herself rather than us. We enjoyed this game because you got to make hamburgers while being chased be hotdogs, pickles, and eggs. What little kid did not enjoy hamburgers! The game was released in 1982. I didn't realize this game was so old. You play as Chef Peter Pepper. I am assuming that name came about since you can stun your enemies with the use of a pepper. I always personally thought the character another was interpretation of Mario but apparently not.

The object of the game is to walk over hamburger ingredients via a maze of ladders while avoiding the enemies. As you walk over the ingredients they all fall down and collect at the bottom to form the burger. Check out below for a video of the play through.

What do you remember from playing this game?
