Gamer Corner: Ken

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

Well. Lets see. Lol. I will be 32 in a couple of weeks. I also engaged and getting married later this year. I have been gaming since I was 3 years old. It started with the NES mostly and a little bit of Atari.
I currently play the Wii U mostly. However, I own almost all consoles dating back to the NES. I think of myself as a true gamer. To me that means games come before the consoles. I do NOT align myself to just one console. I always purchase them all...eventually.

What is your first memory of gaming?
My first memory of gaming that I can recall is playing Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt on the NES. I remember my Dad always forcing me to die so my sister could play. I mean I would literally make it through about half the game before I died.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

Right now, I'm playing catch up...as in catching up to my fiancee. Lol. She was a serious mobile gamer. I got her into the 3DS and she has beaten games before me. But in all seriousness, I'm finishing up Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS. Easily the best looking game on the system. It really takes advantage of the 3D. The whole game is in 3D. The game is plenty of fun. Everything from Luigi's cowardly reactions to him humming along with the scary theme music. Play it and you will see what I mean.

Would you recommend it, why?
I would definitely recommend it. I would even go so far as to say it is a MUST HAVE on the system. I hope Nintendo brings it to the Wii U. I mean the game is the embodiment of Nintendo's attention to detail. Nothing feels out of place. Nothing feels too realistic either. I mean...its a game. Luigi's personality and reactions given his circumstance is something we can all understand. The game challenges you to think, but it does not make it impossible to figure out the next step.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
You bet your ass there are! Where should I begin? In all honesty, I should not even start because of my huge backlog. But anyway, the games I am looking forward to are: SSB4 for 3DS and Wii U (Yes both), Devils Third, Splatoon, Captain Toad, Watch Dogs (Wii U), Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Affordable Space Adventures, Road Redemption, Bayonetta 2, Zelda U, Project STEAM, Sunset Overdrive, No Mans Sky, Kirby's Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Wolly World, Project Guard, Kindom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy 15....Just to name a few.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

Honestly, I have came up with my own ideas for games more than a few times. I still have one for a balanced Marvel vs Capcom. The one I have been toying around with lately I still have to discuss with +GVGINU. It is a Nintendo title. Very ambitious.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

First of all, I am a fan of all consoles because I follow the games I love and want to play. With that said, I prefer the Wii U. To be honest, I do not see ANY reason to purchase the Xbox One or PS4. Why is that? Because I do not see any worthwhile games on their respective systems. Most of the games released for them are also available on their predecessors...which I already own do NOT require mandatory installs. Even before they launched, I knew I did not and would not purchase them no earlier than holiday 2015. The reason behind that is last generation's burned fans. Lack of good games, hardware issues, etc. I personally was not burned, but I am a patient gamer. Another reason is because I want give both companies to work out the OS bugs, become more energy efficient (read no overheating), give developers time to become acclimated to the hardware, decrease the form factor, offer larger standard harddrives, etc.
However, after watching E3 2014, I am seriously considering purchasing an Xbox One this holiday because it actually has a few games I really want to play releasing later this year. And yes, I'm buying the Kinect version. Sunset Overdrive, Halo Master Chief Collection, and Forza Horizons 2 are all games I really want to play.
Going back to the Wii U, my fiance and I have so much fun with it. The catalog of games is not 80% shooters and zombie games. Also, Nintendo Land is very addictive when played with large groups. Just ask my family. They all want a Wii U now. Why? Luigi's Ghost Mansion and Sweet Day. If you have played that with a group of people, you know the volume level dramatically increases in your home. Lol.
As for the PS4, do NOT get me started. It is a hype machine at best. It has virtually no games. Their E3 was garbage in my opinion. They practically pulled an Xbox One from 2013 with their focus on services rather than games. In short, check out +Mizzah Tee's  Playroom video.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

To be, the gaming industry has crashed already. I actually did my very first podcast about this. Warning, it is very long. Lets just say that all the panelists had something on their chest. Looking at the PS4, it is basically selling on hype alone. Most people basically use it to watch Netflix or mess around in Playroom. Pun intended. The Xbox One has basically backtracked on almost every policy. I would argue that its for the better. Overall, Nintendo is the only console developer on track to do better over the years. They are creating more jobs rather than cutting them as well as generating a profit. The Wii U may not be selling at the same pace as the Wii, but it will become just as popular. In regards to the publishers/developers, they have become EXTREMELY lazy. When smaller indie studios create better and more unique gameplay experiences than billion dollar studios, the industry has already crashed. I truly believe we are in the rebirth. I think the crash started with the Wii. After playing games the same way over 20 years, it brought something new to the table. Everyone wanted in, but most only put in lackluster effort. However, this is a deeper topic for a different day.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
I see the boom of the 80s and 90s again. I see Nintendo being the favorite among the people and the envy of the competitors. I still see them holding true to their ways while others spend billions trying to please a customer that truly cannot be pleased and truly does not know what they need in gaming. I would take the industry in the immersive direction like Nintendo is doing. I want games to be completely immersive. That's the way to enjoy a fantasy. You have to believe in the experience.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

There are so many. Honestly, it will be hard to choose. For an RPG, it would be Xenosaga Episode 1 on PS2. For sports, NFL Blitz on N64. For the most fun I have ever had, Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. Battle mode saw hundreds if not thousands of hours.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

No matter you preference, in the end its all about the game. Consoles are nothing without the games you love. So KEEP IT GAMING.

Gamer Corner: Vikki

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets her thoughts on the gaming world and learning what she is enjoying at the moment. Hi Everyone, I decided to make myself the gamer for Gamer Corner starting the next year of Fangirl Review.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I'm Vikki (yes that is how I spell my name). Born and raised in NJ. I have been gaming since I was a kid and have always found it to be fun and love it when I finally beat a game. I consider myself a fun gamer. I am not sure how to classify myself other than I play. I do like to play on consoles and handhelds. I would love to get into gaming on a PC but I do not have the money to invest right now.

What is your first memory of gaming?

It would have to be playing Atari at my grandmother's house. My Aunt and Uncle had it and we got to play it! Plus my parents would my brothers and I roller skating and bowling. We had to do the activity first before we were allowed to play arcade games. To this day I still love arcade games and I have an addiction to pinball games.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

I am currently playing Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies. I am playing it on my breaks at work. I want to have it done before the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton makes it to the US. I have always enjoyed the game and I love the extras of the new game that were not present in the earlier ones.

Would you recommend it, why?

If you like games that make you think, then you will like this one.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I am looking forward to Splatoon, Smash Bros, and Dance Central; oh and of coarse Zelda in 2015. Just had the chance to play the Destiny Beta so I am interested in that as well.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I mentioned this on a podcast. I would like to combine Dance Central with Rockband. Basically you will have the lead singer, back up dancers, and the full band working together to play through the whole song. There will be times that the lead singer will have to jump into the dance moves just like any singer with back up dancers. I think it would be fun to have all my friends working together to play though Living on a Prayer (yes, that is my Jersey coming through, #dontjudgeme)

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

Okay I am going to share my thoughts and I am sure some people will think I am crazy. I think Wii U was the only console that actually moved forward this generation. The gamepad is a sign of forward thinking. Xbox One decided to do a much needed upgrade to the Kinect. A major issue with Xbox and PS is that they are still too invested in their previous consoles and the new consoles are not backwards compatible. It is hard to jump to a new console when you have so many games you cannot play on the new one.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I am so over DLCs. Give me a full game not a half game that I paid 60 bucks for and still need to pay more to get the whole game. The industry has become so focused on money that innovation overall has left the building.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

10 years from now I see some of the consoles having died out. The PC industry is booming and why pay 60 bucks for a game when you can pay less for a better version on a PC? Or the industry can truly move forward and bring innovation back and people become invested in quality. That is where I hope the industry would go. I guess we shall see.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

This is a hard question. Do I say Resident Evil which is a game I love or Ocarina of Time which brought me back to my love of video games after taking a break? Or the classic Mario Bros 3 that wowed me as a kid? I just don't know. I will pick these three for now.

Gamer Corner: Mizzah Tee

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

Well first I want to thank you for doing this interview with me. I am honored that you were interested enough in Mizzah Tee to do so. And I hope you don’t regret it, LOL. So to answer your question I would have to say YES! Although I’m currently mostly gaming on consoles, I have done and been big into all those forms of gaming at some point in my life. Starting in the mid nineties I got really into PC gaming with those excellent Lucas Arts games as well as FPS games like Doom and Wolfenstein and such. I was really into story driven point and click adventures as well as puzzle games like Myst. I did a brief stint in Magic the Gathering because a good friend of mine pulled me in as he was a fanatic. I’ve been playing on consoles since the original Atari and the only genre I’m not a fan of is simulators. I have never done LARP personally, but I have observed and enjoyed it at Medieval Theme parks and festivals throughout my history. But as a Nintendo fan, my Wii U and 3DS definitely get most of my attention. So I’m mostly a console gamer.
What is your first memory of gaming?

My first memory of gaming had to have been when my Uncle, who pretty much introduced me to video games, sat me down in front of his Colleco Vision when I was about 2 or 3. He had a steering wheel peripheral complete with pedals for a racing game that I don’t remember the name of. He controlled the pedals while I steered. I remember giggling my head off and being amazed that I was controlling images on a tv screen. Not long after that, he took me to the arcade to play this weird game called Donkey Kong. I remember saying, “Where is the Donkey? All I see is a man and a monkey.”

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

There was a time when I would just play and focus on one game at a time. That time is long gone, Haha! Between my 3DS, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, and Mac, I’m playing a lot at once, which increases the time it takes me to beat games. It’s not like it was before college where I had all this damn time to game. I’m a husband, a father of two, and a business owner now. I just don’t have the time to focus on one game at a time if I want to play them all. But the games I’m most focused on completing are Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Darksiders 2, Shin Megami Tensei 4, to name a few. I’m easily playing 20 different games right now at once. The backlog is embarrassing. Gameplay is always king for me. That is why, unlike many gamers today, I have no problem actively playing my retro systems and games. The N64 is still to this day my all time favorite console.

Would you recommend it, why?

I pretty much would recommend any game I’m playing because if I go and spend my hard earned money on it, it was worth it. As a veteran gamer I now have a much keener eye in being able to spot bad games before I buy them unlike back in the day where all you had was cover art and screen grabs on the box, word of mouth, or maybe a gamer magazine review to know if a game is good or not. Other than downloadable indies, I know the game is good, at least for me, before I buy it.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Yes. Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One looks cool. Dreamfall Chapters, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros WiiU/3DS, Mirror’s Edge 2, No Man’s Sky, Splatoon, Devil’s Third, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda U. Too many games…

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

It would definitely be an action/rpg in the vein of Zelda. Discovering a world, meeting interesting characters along the way, exploration gameplay and solid narrative. That would be the most interesting game for me to design I think. I actually just finished writing my fantasy epic after twelve years of working on it. It would make an awesome action/rpg. I hope one day that dream comes true.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I currently only own the Wii U as far as current gen systems go, and while I mostly love it, it could use a bit more games in more genres. It’s still early but there are some stellar games in the pipeline. While a more robust third party may help the system become more appealing to the masses, that doesn’t matter to me. I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. And I buy other consoles for their exclusives, not multiplats. I am currently waiting on a reason for me to purchase either an Xbox One or PS4. I just don’t see a need to own both. I am leaning toward Xbox One though because it looks to have more exclusives coming that interest me.
What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I am so uninspired by the current industry. As a veteran gamer, the lack of variety and innovation I’m seeing today disheartens me. I love Nintendo because they love to shake things up and dance to the beat of their own drum. There are so many companies that went under or were swallowed up by big publishers. And I look around and there are a bunch of “me too” shooters, interactive movies with a focus on photo realistic graphics over challenge and gameplay, and the amount of games that are released full price but are broken, nickel and dime the consumer with DLC that should have been a part of the retail game, and yearly releases with minimal “upgrades.” I can’t help but feel like another crash is coming to the gaming industry. Not one on the level of ’83, but one that will “cleanse” the industry for the better. But I am excited and hopeful from what I see from Indie developers. They are the 3rd parties of the future and they aren’t jaded like the old guard. They are bright eyed, enthusiastic, and very creative. That’s what this industry needs; a fresh, innovative shot in the arm.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

Well… you can probably guess that from my last answer I’m not happy with the direction. I honestly feel like PS4 might be Sony’s last home console. From what they’ve been saying lately, they seem to be heading towards offering their future games through a streaming service through either their TV’s or movie player set top box. Xbox and Microsoft is harder to peg down. I feel like they guessed wrong about their plan to “own the living room.” Something they had as a goal when the first Xbox released. I think they thought Xbox One was going to be the platform where that vision culminated. But do to a shaky reveal of their console, coupled with bad press from policies ranging from DRM to 24 hour check-ins, that just doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to happen. Perhaps in 50 years when everybody is gaming, a device that combines all entertainment will be viable, but right now no one seems to really want that. Especially stubborn, elitist, hard headed “gamers.”

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

While it would be easy to say The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, I’m going to have to give a slight edge to Ocarina of Time being my favorite game of all time. As I said before, the N64 is my all time favorite console, and as I said in my video about it on my Youtube channel, it’s mainly because that was the era that I realized and self identified myself as a “gamer.” I was actively gaming on my PC, Sega Saturn, Gameboy Color, and PS1 at the time and none of those experiences on those platforms blew me away the way Ocarina of Time did back then. Graphics, gameplay, music, story were all unmatched at the time and it influences the gaming industry to this day. That game came out and just destroyed everything, including my free time. I have yet to reach that “high” in playing video games since. It was just an awesome game that is still fun to play today. Now that’s a testament of genius game design by Shigeru Miyamoto, a master in his prime.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

I just want to say that it’s awesome to be interviewed by a gamer that is a journalist, rather than a journalist who has to play and talk about video games because their job calls for it. I feel like this industry does better when gamers are at the table and not just corporate money men who don’t really care about games. We as gamers need to stop accepting the bogus policies and “assembly line games” that the industry force-feeds us. We have to be smarter consumers. The industry will be all the better for it. And oh yeah… one more thing… PLAY NINTENDO FOOS!

Gamer Corner: Darren

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.
Xbox 360 Veteran Gamer

What is your first memory of gaming?
Mostly All Atari Games

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How's the overall game play and graphics?

COD Ghost Multiplayer Team Deathmatch. The overall game play is very good, excellent graphics. However, I feel sometimes other players are moving faster than I am. Lol...

Would you recommend it, why?

Yes I would. The reason is because to me it seems to be the ultimate first perosn shooter game.
Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Madden 2015

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

My game would be a blend of COD and Battlefield with a 2 week story mode with more space and sea battles over or on each continent. Which has probably been done

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles - Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I haven't had to pleasure of playing those consoles, so I can't give a fair assessment. However, Xbox One seems to be the most talked about system.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I would like the gaming industry to lower the prices of games to under $50, free online play for every system, to bring back the light gun for first person shooter games. This would make the games a lot more realistic.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

As previously stated, the price of games, accessories would be affordable to the adults and parents that play as well as the teens who work just to purchase the products.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

Black for Playstation 2! Everything in the game was able to be destroyed with bullets or bombs.

Gamer Corner: Andre

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

Well, my name is Andre, I currently play on a Wii U, Xbox 360, and my very underpowered PC (for Indie and Fan Games). As far as the type of gamer I am, I consider myself and all-around core gamer, I'll give nearly anything a chance and I'll play whatever I feel is fun.

What is your first memory of gaming?

My first gaming memory...that would be watching my older brothers playing good old River City Ransom on the NES, but as far as playing, then that would be Megaman 2 was the first game that I remember playing.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

Well Mario Kart 8, ZombiU, Project X Zone, Moon Chronicles, Bayonetta and Afro Samurai to name a few. I still have plenty of other stuff I could name, but these are what prevalent for me right now.

Would you recommend it, why?
I would recommend them all as I find each game to be fun, which is what gaming is supposed to be able.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Well Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors, the next Zelda, Sunset Overdrive, Halo Master Chief Collection, Ironfall, Super Smash Brothers (Wii U/3DS) Mirror's Edge 2, No Man's Sky, Mario Maker, Project Spark...there are just too many.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

Well, if anyone checks my youtube channel (GVGINU), you find that I talk about video game ideas a lot. But personally, I have a lot of ideas I would love to see made, I have an idea for a great fighting game, a few survival horror type ideas, a platformer idea (it involves monkeys), but there is so much that I can't really cram it all here.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?
They are all great platforms from the observer's standpoint and I think that they all have amazing potential. I do wish that there were more games out that I have to have that were only on those platforms. It's happening more for me right now with the Wii U, but not so much for Xbox One and PS4 (based on my own gaming preferrences). I don't see the point in purchasing either platform right now just to have better looking versions of games that are on 7th gen consoles. If the game content is the same then I'm really worried about upgrading, not to say I wouldn't buy those versions if I already had those consoles.
What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I think that we've seen a lot of games that don't really change much in comparison to their predcessors from major developers. So I'm looking to indie's now to see fun, new and expanded gameplay. Not that games by major developers haven't been fun, but indie games have been more my taste as of late.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
10 years from now, I see a lot of the bigger companies in the industry falling to pieces. This has already happened with many of the mid-tier companies that made games I used to love last generation. So I think this trend will continue until most of these companies that had great developers leave and start their own Indie Studios.

If I had the power to fix this and keep these companies around, I would take their focus off of making a dollar so much and on to making great games for each individual platform that fully utilized the technology presented in each, very similar to what was done during the 16-bit and 32/64-bit eras of gaming. More quality, less quanity.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

My favorite game of all time...this is probably considered a common choice by now, but the Legend of Zelda Orcarina of Time. Yes, I know that there are better made Zelda games out there and won't deny that, but I had lost interest in the series for quite a while until that game and it renewed my love for the series.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

Well, check out my youtube channel GVGINU which is short for Great Video Game Ideas Not Used. That wouldn't fit as a name so I went with the acronym. I have started a series on my channel called the “Gamer Idea Foundry” which is for sharing and spreading the gaming ideas of gamers. This could be for a fresh and new video game idea, one for an established IP, or even ideas on things that are felt to be able to fix problems within the industry. I want gamers to be able to share their thoughts with game companies in a well-thought out manner. Anyone interested can reach out to me on my youtube channel. Here is the link - YouTube: GVGINU

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

If anyone would like to game with me, my Xbox live gamertag is dcspantha35 (Only on 360 for now, don't have a One yet), Pantha35 is my NNID for play on the Wii U, and you can contact me my 3DS friend code. I'm all about enjoying my games and want other people to be too.

Thank you to Andre for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at fangirlcontact@gmail.com.

Gamer Corner: Z Game Productions

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets their thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

Well, we here actually like playing more with Playstation consoles. We don’t classify as Hardcore gamers, but more like we’re addicted to video games and we also like PC games.

What is your first memory of gaming?

Most of us in ZGP for short have many memories with Atari, Sega and Nintendo.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

We mostly here like to play the new Watch Dogs. We enjoy this game as it is very epic in gameplay, because it mixes up real life and science fiction. The best thing about that game is graphics and the gameplay.

Would you recommend it, why?

We would recommend Watch Dogs as it is very awesome, when hacking into Chicago’s network, as we said it mixes reality and fiction.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
Well, as we are a game production company, we actually look forward to better software and 3D gaming engines.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

Well we did design our own game, but it turned out to be very bad, so we are keeping on to go to the next level of gaming entertainment, as we are trying to mix styles from very famous games and adding our own ideas in.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

Well, our thoughts on the next gaming generations are that, maybe Microsoft and its Xbox will win, as Sony is bankrupt. We would assign that Wii U is indeed BAD.

What are your plans in the gaming industry?
Well, we are trying to get more famous people to work with and work with some of gaming websites and other stuff.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

Well, 10 years from now I see Sony “Dead”. Probably Xbox is going to be the most played console. So if we would choose a direction, we would than actually make games for the XBOX console.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

Favorite game… hmmm… Probably Super Mario Bros. or Another World and Zelda.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

We began actually as an idea for a game which turned out to be our first game. Then we got many other gaming ideas and we didn’t want to create indie games so it turned out for us to become a game production company.

What is the contact information for your company?

Gamer Corner: Abdul

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I'm 29, been gaming for about 25 of those years. I am currently gaming on the trusty 360. I'm somewhere between casual and hardcore, depending on the game and who I have to play with. I'm mostly a single player gamer these days, since they seem to be the only ones that hold my interest. I'm a very story based gamer so that's what I look for.

What is your first memory of gaming?

First memory of gaming, hmm? Has to be playing Super Mario Bros. on the original NES and who could forget Castlevania, lol... Good times, smh.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

I am currently rocking pretty hard on the RPG's these days. Bouncing back and forth between Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Skyrim and Mass Effect (all of them). Lost Odyssey being my favorite right now. I love it, reminds me of the FFVII days (it is made by the same guy). I love the depth of the characters. The graphics aren't bad, not perfect but, adequate. There's almost a hand drawn feel to them, very texturized which I happen to like. I don't generally like when graphics are to "smooth". The gameplay is reminiscent of Legend of Dragoon from the PSX, it's turn based and there's a target reticle you have to hit to do more damage. In any case, the storyline is amazing.

Would you recommend it, why?

I highly recommend both Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata for those of you who enjoy JRPG's they either dying out or mediocre as hell these days so, when you find a good one hang on to it. Characters that you'll feel for and get to know, like playing a good book. Revenge and retribution. It's all there and the graphics lend themselves well to the storylines and the gameplay, each is gorgeous in its own right.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

There is only one game right now that I can say I'm truly anticipating and that game is Destiny (I refuse to get the X1 before its release). It's such an ambitious idea/project and I'm chomping at the bit for it. Big time.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I like the idea of a rewards based game, feeling like the decisions you make really effect the world around you. Active combat is EPIC but, I'd go with turn based because it is slightly more balanced in my opinion. I like the open world feel so, that would be a part of it as well. In my head I'm thinking a crazy mix of World of Warcraft, Mass Effect, XCOM and Final Fantasy. Sci-Fantasy storyline, magic and science, maybe a war between the two factions. Class based each faction with it's counterpart. Sounds like gold to me.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I think this new generation is mainly a transitional generation. The X1 is at the top for me, mainly because of the level of integration. It's moving forward with new ideas and new ways to use the old. The Wii U is second mainly because while Nintendo still fails to capture the "hardcore" audience they are trying new things and in the end, that's what progress is about. *sigh* PS4 is at the bottom of my list. They haven't done anything truly new or groundbreaking, they simply made a stronger PS3. I feel like Sony relies very heavily on the familiarity of their previous generations to carry them and in the long run, it will hurt them. It's the generation after this one that I'm really waiting for.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I think that in their attempt to make a profit they cater the lowest common denominator. Story and atmosphere just aren't a factor in the more popular games. Good graphics and a few "WOW" moments and BAM, we gotta game? This is in part due to the gamers, fair enough and they are trying to make a profit, I get it but, charging 60 bucks for a game with a sub par plot or in the case of TitanFall, no real campaign to speak of is just ridiculous. I don't feel like the creators make games to see their world come to life anymore. There's no love in it. No passion. When you played Bioshock or the first Halo you could tell the creators poured their souls into them. Honorable mentions to the ME series, the CoD: MW series (Price!!!).
10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

10 years from now, I expect total integration. I'm a fan. Motion and voice controlled. Holograms, probably asking too much but, I dug the voice commands of ME3 and I would like to see more of that in more games. Not just tacked on but, really in there. If I had my wish the "console wars" would be over and Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft would come together to make one mega console. A guy can dream, right?

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

I have to give it to FFVII... I know, I know but, in terms of everything it was the first fully orchestrated soundtrack. It was the first time I truly loved a world and the characters in it,  wanted revenge when Sephiroth killed Aeris. I took that game to heart. Mass Effect also holds a special place in my heart, it was the first time you actually got to see you decision impact your world. I played all the games (and still do) inside and out and 6 ways from Sunday and still occasionally find something new no matter how small. The attention to detail was incredible, the characters/aliens looked like they evolved on the planets they came from. By far one of the most well thought out games EVER.

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

All of that said, you can still catch me on Halo 4, Borderlands 2, Gears 3, Dead Island, Super SFIV or Warface every so often. Besides that, I don't have much else to add but thanks for the opportunity and maybe I'll catch you on the virtual battlefield sometime.

Gamer Corner: DeAno

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

My name is DeAno Jackson, and I’ve been a geek since the day before time began. I’m mainly a console gamer - I own a PS3 and a PS4 that get the majority of my playtime. I’m mostly into Action/Adventure games and RPGs.
What is your first memory of gaming?
Going over a friend of mines house to play Asteroids on his Atari 2600.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

I’m almost never playing one game at a time, but rather I tend to rotate around several. Right now that’s Watch_Dogs, Don’t Starve, Dead Nation, and Mass Effect, but Watch Dogs is on the top of that list. It adds a twist to the usual GTA formula that’s a lot of fun to play with and does some intriguing things with multiplayer.

Would you recommend it, why?
Absolutely. It’s a fun game with a pretty good story that really draws you in.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Quite a few, actually! Batman: Arkham Knight, the new Dragon Age, Diablo 3, The Order: 1886, this year’s Assassin’s Creed game, and I’m sure after E3 there will be more added to the list.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I suck at design; it’d probably be a hot mess!

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

And this is where I’ll get myself into trouble with some of your readers. I’ll just come right out with it; I don’t consider the Wii U to be an 8th generation console. Each generation tends to have a theme, and the HD era was last generation. This generation all about social connectivity away from the console itself, something which Microsoft and Sony both figured out, but Nintendo is still lacking. The Wii U is the console that the original Wii should have been.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

It really made me happy to see the current generation start off with so big of a bang. Despite the naysayers, this industry is as strong as ever!

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

10 years ago I couldn't have predicted that the industry would be where it is right now. With the rate that technology advances, I don’t think ANYONE could see what’s coming next. If I had my way? One word: Holodeck. (Fangirl fully supports a Holodeck direction)
Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

You ask me this now, you get one answer. Ask me again in five minutes, you’ll get another. The game that holds a special place in my heart, though, is Resident Evil 2. For awhile in the mid 90s I kinda fell away from gaming because it seemed too “kiddy.” RE2 showed me that gaming had grown up, and I’ve been at it ever since!

Additional Thoughts and Comments?
Hail Hydra!

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Sure. I’m EvoAnubis on pretty much everything that requires a username.

Thank you to DeAno for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at fangirlcontact@gmail.com.

Gamer Corner: Kaiser

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What  kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I'm a 25 year old Mexican who enjoys subjects of technology and history and right now I game on my old Toshiba Satellite laptop, because of my rig right now I don't game a lot so I'm right now playing casually some free2play games I can run on my laptop.

What is your first memory of gaming?

Watching my brothers play NES games when I was 2 or 3 years old, I was intrigued at that time with video games but I did not play a game till I was 8 years old; my first game being The Legend of Zelda A Link To the Past.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why?

Right now I'm playing Path of Exile a free2play game from Griding Gears Game studio, and I'm enjoying the game so far, since it has a Diablo 2 feeling in terms of difficulty and ambiance, and a more depth character customization in the form of gems you can put on your gear to gain skills, which can be supported by other gems as long as the gear has sockets linking them to make the skills more deadly, and a big passive tree so you can create the character you want to create in the case you want a ranged character or a melee tank character.
How’s the overall game play and graphics?

Gameplay is like a Diablo game, you left click to move and can be used to auto attack enemies or use a skill you can also bind q,w,e,r,t and right click for other skills, and bind 1,2,3,4,5 for flasks you can use to support your character in recovering health, magic or increasing certain resistances or armor.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would only recommend it to Diablo 2 fans and hardcore rpg gamers, since this is not a game everyone will enjoy, since its learning curve is quite difficult to new players, who have not played an rpg and even then its good to read about character builds so you have an idea what kind of character you want to make.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to the release of Destiny and Everquest Next, since both games have persistent world features that may come to revolution the MMO games, since it is something we have been looking forward to a change in the MMO games as we have not seen before, specially on Everquest Next since it not only add persistent world features but also sandbox features, to construct your own castle or wizard tower =).

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

An RPG game combining the melee combat of the kickstarter game of Warhorse studio Kingom Come: Deliverance and the Spell combat of Lichdom, that would make it the ultimate immersive experience of combat for the players in my opinion.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

In my opinion only the WII U and the PS4 are the consoles trying to be revolutionary. The WII U with its gamepad and the PS4 with its virtual reality project morpheus. I think if both Sony and Nintendo play their cards right with both innovations they can really bring good things to video games; like in games like ZombiU the gamepad can be used in interesting ways to contribute to the immersion of the game and I hope to see other games that use the gamepad in such ways.
What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

Right now the industry is at a cross road of the next revolution with augmented reality technology and virtual reality going to change the way we play, if its a good thing or a bad thing still has to be seen. I have hopes if change comes to gaming by these technologies it will be for the better of the industry to continue offering us really good experiences of fun and enjoyment they have always given to us.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

If everything goes as I have seen the new technology will be virtual reality technology as the main source of gaming with really impressive immersive games. As a technology fan I would be happy with this direction, but I still hope if this is the path the industry takes, there will still be traditional ways to play the game and if I had the power I would definitely vouch to conserve to still make traditional games.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, its the first game I played, and it had such an impact on me. It made me the gamer I am today and I still replay it from time to time, since its one of the best games I have played from the story to the gameplay, to the music, a really memorable experience.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Gamer Corner: Kevin

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.
I’m a soon to be 28 year old dietary manager currently working in rehab/long-term care. Received my education from the University of Florida. While I haven’t played computer games since 97, I do currently play the launch system of the PS4, PS3 slim, and the new PS Vita slim bundled w/ borderlands 2. I classify myself as a Trophy Hunter! I love to collecting trophies in games. It’s probably the first thing I look at after installing the data on the system. I’m mostly a console gamer, I don’t mind playing games on the laptop or now portable handheld.

What is your first memory of gaming?
I would have to say when I was first introduced to the Sega Genesis system. My dad had come back from deployment right before Christmas; I received it as a gift and didn’t even know about the system. He had told me that some of his shipmates were playing on the ship and thought it would be something I’d like. It was the launch system with Sonic, the one that had not for resale on it. I also had gotten Street Fighter II: Champion Edition.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics
I’m currently playing Darksiders (got it from the flash sale for $5) and Crysis 3 on PS3, Gravity Rush, Unit 13, Velocity Ultra, and Borderland 2 on PS Vita, and nothing on my PS4 as I have traded in my games towards pre-orders this fall. So far I’m enjoying everything that I’m playing. I love games like Darksiders because its story driven, you solve puzzles, and you have to strategize. Crysis 3, well it’s just like any other fps but with a few different features, I like headshots. Can’t really comment on the PS vita games just yet since I just played it for the first time yesterday but the graphics are amazing. I personally think that KZ: Shadowfall is the best game graphically so far that I’ve seen on the PS4.

Would you recommend it, why?
I would recommend everything that I’m currently playing.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
Destiny and Batman: Arkham Knight. Both have been pre-ordered. Also Tom Clancy’s The Division. I’ll take any Tom Clancy game over COD and BF any day.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?
Probably a visual novel. I haven’t seen many in North America and I love anime. Probably something on the lines of The Boondocks.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?
Personally I think the Xbox period is for children, even though they are advertising the Xbox 1 towards adults. The Wii U, I can’t say too much about being that I haven’t played it personally. The gameplay that I have watched of it does look amazing though. Now the PS4 is something I would and have been recommending to all gamers. I think it’s the best next gen console out. The numbers don’t lie, only is I wish it had the external hard drive capabilities like the PS3.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?
I think the game industry is saturated with copies and low quality games. I can’t think of one game that is a 10 rating. Yes the graphics are getting better but we’re buying the same titles over and over. I personally hate the fact that so many games come out at once. It’s like you are forced to choose which one. I know it’s about the all mighty dollar but I can’t even enjoy playing some games because I’m busy trying to stay current. That’s why I don’t play much multiplayer online because I rather get immersed in the campaign/story than battle strangers online for hours.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
Honestly I see the industry going VR. Sony is already working on it and it’s just a matter of time before we’re actually testing our true abilities like in the movie “Gamer”. I would love to see gaming like that. See if some of the other gamers actually have the skills they actually claim online. It’s a big difference when your attributes come in to play, instead of hacking the game to level up or unlock the best weapons in the game when it’s only been out for 2 days. Me, myself, if I had the power, I would definitely take the gaming industry there! No more being a part of a 9 year old’s kill streak because his parents allow him to play online all weekend while you actually have real responsibilities to take care of and may only get to play for a hour or two after your kids go to sleep.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?
Hmmmm….I really don’t know. Maybe Super Mario 64. Mario is classic, but when the 64 introduced the world to a semi open map, and a 3d Mario, it was epic.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

Gamer Corner: Denver

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.
My name is Denver and I live in Florida. I currently play on my AMD gaming PC. I am a PC gamer and unless there is a significant change in the consoles, I will stick with PC for a very long time. I do think of myself as a hardcore gamer, with my favorite genre of games being FPS and RPG.

What is your first memory of gaming?
My first memory of gaming was when I was about 6 and my brother and I saved up enough money to buy a Gamecube. We mostly played Super Mario Cart Racing.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

BattleField 4 is the game I am currently playing. The gameplay can be a little slow if you're coming from playing COD but if you spawn on one of your squad members, you can get right in the action. In my opinion, the graphics in Battlefield 4 are the second best ever, with Crysis 3 being the best. I enjoy this game a lot, but the game at its current state is very buggy and almost unplayable to some degree. I really hope that EA can get this problem taken care of soon. I would highly recommend this game to anyone, especially gamers who play COD.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
There are a lot of games coming out this year but the game that I am most excited for would probably be Destiny and Tom Clancy's The Division.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?
If I could make my own game, I would make a game similar to Skyrim: The Elder Scrolls but with a co-op with up to 16 players. I think games like that need to be experienced with friends.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?
I honestly think that the new generation of consoles has been a little disappointing. I think the first thing Microsoft needs to do is release a Kinect-less Xbox One so there is no longer such a price difference with the PS4. I think that if you are unsatisfied with the graphics, exclusives, and the power of the systems then just get a PC. Because when you think about it, almost every game that isn't on a certain console has usually been on PC. Let's take TItanfall. This game has been getting a lot of attention for its gameplay and its uniqueness, but no one who plays on a PS3 or PS4 can play it. Therefore some people who already spent $400 on their PS4 have to go out and buy a Xbox One. In total, that's $900 on two different consoles for games that were available for the PC.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?
I think the industry is good, but I really think that companies like EA and Activion need to stop milking money from gamers with shortcuts, DLC, and new map packs. I also think that the games need to be at least ten dollars cheaper.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
I predict that in the next ten years the gaming community will grow exponentially. I really hope that there are more original games like Bioshock Infinite and Skyrim, and not the "rinse and repeat" cycle that Call of Duty has been doing for a very long time.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?
My favorite games would have to be Battlefield 4 and Far Cry 3. I love Battlefield 4 for its vehicles and large maps and I appreciate Far Cry 3 for its great story and open world that you can roam.

Thank you to Denver for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at fangirlcontact@gmail.com.

Gamer Corner: Scott

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I am currently 22 years old and about to be a grad student at the University of Texas Health (for dental). I love RTS games; League of Legends being one of my favorites. I am also privileged to be the CEO of the great community “Have an Impact”! I tend to only play on my PC although I do have gaming consoles that I haven’t touched in about 2 years!

MY SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS
OPERATING SYSTEM:
Windows 7 (Service Pack 1)
CPU TYPE:
Intel® Core™ i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
CPU SPEED:
3.32 GHz
SYSTEM MEMORY:
8.57 GB
VIDEO CARD MODEL:
AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
PRIMARY DISPLAY RESOLUTION:
1440x900
SECONDARY DISPLAY RESOLUTION:
1280x1024
HARD DISK SIZE:
1 TB

What is your first memory of gaming?

I actually started gaming a bit later than your average gamer. My very first memory would have to be playing “StarCraft: Brood War” back in my 8th grade year.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

I am currently playing League of Legends these days. I absolutely enjoy the game although the only thing it needs is a less toxic environment! I enjoy the competitiveness of the game, the ability to outplay your opponents, the skill curve of the game and all the different types of ways that you are able to play. The graphics are suitable to the gameplay, I don’t expect godlike graphics for such a high speed game.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would definitely recommend it for any gamer! It pretty much has a champion for every type of unique gamer out there with newer ones coming out every month.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Not really. Since I will be starting my grad school fairly soon, I do not intend to get involved into another game in the near future.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I am not even nearly clever enough to even think about that! However, if I can just choose the genre, it would have to be something similar to Diablo 2!

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I personally think the best console in the world is the PC. Everything else fails in comparison.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I believe that the gaming industry has been looked down upon by society; however I also believe that it is one of the better industries in the world. If we can just fix the stereotypes of your typical gamer, the industry would rocket into one of the best industries!

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

To be completely honest, I think the industry will be on a constant line for a very long time. Games are simply just games. I think everyone has to be happy with that. Games are fun, they are entertaining and they can be time consuming; but once we all grow up, we won’t be having the luxury of spending hours on games like we do now. Don’t get me wrong, some people won’t move on. There is money in the industry, but we have to realize that it is highly competitive with a very high risk of no rewards.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

I would have to say Diablo 2. I’ve spent many hours playing that game and I would really have to say that it introduced me into the world of gaming.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

On League of Legends my name would be Jellyfishes so you guys are free to add me in game! For more information you can simply go to our website: http://www.have-an-impact.com/
