Movie Mondays: Resident Evil Retribution

I decided to add Movie Mondays to my blog. Essentially I will watch a movie and share my thoughts on it. It may not be new or recent movie but more than likely a movie I meant to watch but life got in the way and I never got around to it until I saw it on clearance, 5 dollar box at Wal-Mart, or on Netflix. This week I finally got around to watching Resident Evil 5. It is the latest installment in the series with the 6th one being slated for a release in 2014.

Story line: The Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race's last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex.

Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by new found allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

My Thoughts:

The movie starts with Alice in an explosive fight sequence from the last movie as the Arcadia boat is being attacked by the Umbrella Corporation. Alice is captured during the fight and wakes up in the underwater hive controlled by the Red Queen. Yes the evil little girl from the first movie is back and has gone more rogue.

Alice wakes up wearing just two sheets of paper like the second movie. I did giggle at this. The director most enjoy putting Milla in sheets of paper and telling her to act in it. I appreciate it as I have a girl crush on her so it is okay with me.

The movie explained how the virus spread so quickly and it as always comes down to money and who had it. Which is sad but it does say a lot about our society. It was enjoyable to see some of the old actors back like Michelle Rodriguez (Rain) and Oded Fehr (Carlos). The writer does a great job of explaining how all these dead characters are back. It is simple, clones. They cloned Alice and everyone else to use in experiments.

The movie has some new comers. Barry Burton (Kevin Durand – and he is even wearing red!), Johann Urb (Leon S. Kennedy), and Bingbing Li (Ada Wong). I was excited for Barry and the actor did a great job with him in my opinion.

The movie had the appropriate amount of action and it was fun to watch my Resident Evil characters. The movie ended with Alice having her powers given back and being faced with the fight of her life. She must return to where it all began. I guess the 6th installment will be the last in the series and I look forward to seeing how it all ends.

Am I the only one excited for the next movie?
