Movie Review: It Follows

Synopsis - IT FOLLOWS took the 2014 Cannes, Toronto, Fantastic Fest AFI and 2015 Sundance film festivals by storm, and was released by RADiUS theatrically March 13th. For 19-year-old Jay (Maika Monroe, THE GUEST), the fall should be about school, boys and weekends at the lake. Yet after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can't shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.

With a riveting central performance from Monroe and a strikingly ominous electronic score by Disasterpeace, IT FOLLOWS is an artful psychosexual thriller from David Robert Mitchell (whose THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVERS premiered at Critics' Week in 2010). The film also stars Keir Gilchrist ("The United States of Tara"), Daniel Zovatto (LAGGIES), Jake Weary ("Chicago Fire"), Olivia Luccardi ("Orange is the New Black"), and Lili Sepe (SPORK).

My Thoughts: This movie begins with you seeing a young girl run out of her house, run into the middle of the street, stand they for a few minutes, run in a huge circle and back into her house to grab her purse. She drives off and she is killed in a gruesome way at the beach. The movie started with a bang. It properly creeped out the viewer as you watch the movie and see what Jay goes through as she tries to survive this thing that follows her. I especially enjoyed how only she could see it but it could still hurt her loved ones. That thing properly creeped me out.

Her friends and family work together to save her in some interesting ways. I personally would have called a local paranormal person for some assistance but that would have been my approach. If you enjoy creepy movies then this is the movie for you. It had an old 70s/80s horror flick film feeling to it. I was confused as to when the movie was set but either way I enjoyed it. Check it out and let me know what you thought of the ending.
