Movie Review: Avengers: Age of Ultron

IMDB Storyline: When Tony Stark (Robert Downy Jr.) tries to jump start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron (voiced by James Spader) emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure.

My Thoughts: The first time seeing the movie I gave it a strong C+, I was very much underwhelmed by the movie and felt that it lacked something. The jokes felt forced and the fight sequences were okay. I had the chance to watch the movie a second time and I liked it better the second time around. I now give the movie a B-. I was not wowed by the fight sequence at the beginning as I should have been but as the movie progressed I did enjoy it. The movie is setting up the infinity gauntlet story line so this movie was more of a filler to get us to where we need to be in the Marvel Universe.

The addition of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver was fun. I do enjoy Scarlet Witch while I could take or leave Quicksilver. His sneakers annoyed me, they should have looked cooler or his overall outifit should have been better for someone with super speed. I enjoy the X-Men Quicksilver better personally.

SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ: When we meet Hawkeye's family and see how he plans to be back after helping the team to me was the perfect soap opera set up for him to die. You show the character's happiness and then you kill them. He should have died, it would have had more of an impact in the story and the team overall. However they went with Quicksilver instead which I was not emotionally attached to. SPOILER ALERT END.

My Gripe: The problem that I had with the movie is that Hank Pym helped create Ultron. This would have been the perfect set up for the Ant-Man movie that is set to be released in July 2015. We could have been introduced to Pym and who he is then when the movie came out we would have understood the connection. Overall I would say check the movie out but do not pay for IMAX or 3D. Let me know your thoughts.
