Rare fans at San Diego Comic-Con should act quickly if they’re interested in these unique pieces of studio memorabilia: During the “Rare Chit Chat” panel, Rare Studios unveiled limited editions of the Battletoads soundtrack on vinyl, as well as a 30th anniversary print featuring all 30 games from the Rare Replay collection. With cover illustrations by Brooklyn artist Nick Gazin, whose resume includes iconic album artwork for hip-hop group Run the Jewels, the Comic-Con edition of the Battletoads soundtrack features an exclusive “Dark Queen” gatefold variant and “Sound Chip” jacket available nowhere else. Limited to just 300 copies, this 180-gram LP allows Rare and music fans alike to experience composer David Wise’s classic soundtrack in all its analog glory.
The 30th anniversary print, meanwhile, provides Rare fans with a special something to display next to their turntables. Hand-signed, numbered and limited to just 400 copies, the five-color hand-pulled screenprint—created in collaboration with iam8bit— showcases unique renderings of legendary characters from titles like Banjo Kazooie, Jetpac and Viva Pinata.
Limited quantities of the vinyl soundtrack and the 30th anniversary print will be available for purchase at the Xbox Lounge in the Manchester Hyatt on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting each day at 2 p.m.
