Developer's Corner: Melee Handbook

Tell me a little bit about your company and the founders?

I don't know if you'd call it a company, it's just me and my computer, along with my friends who helped gather resources and make the app look as professional as it does. ThatKawaiiGuy was just the name I used for everything at the time (and still is) so I just thought to make it that since I'm already associated as that in the android dev world.

Tell us all about Melee Handbook?

It's an app aimed at helping players learn and improve. It offers information from baiting to V-canceling, offers info on matchups, frame data for top 12, gifs displaying techniques, 150+ terms of slang and such to help out new players, and stretches to make sure you stay healthy. I've even had 2 of the top 30 players approve of it, Zhu and Chillindude.

What made you decide to develop a handbook for Melee?

It first started out as a little "let's try this" when I was first learning app development, just made a list of techniques that linked to the corresponding wiki page when clicked. But then as I made it, I  realized that it'll work really good at a huge scale, so I went on with it.

What is the vision of your company? What do you hope to achieve?

I want to get bigger than I am now, as in not just be a niche app Dev. I already have a plan for my next app, although that will take some time. My dream is to work at Google, but that seems far from now so I just wanna have a few apps under my name that all perform and rate extremely well and this is a great start. So I'm very happy.

What is your website? Contact information?

Sorry no website right now, but anyone with questions can hit me up at my email ivanthegreatdev@gmail.com, my twitter is @ThatKawaiiGuy.

Fun questions time! What is your first memory of gaming?

I'll always remember my dad coming home holding a GameBoy Advance. It came with some Mario game I don't remember.

I'll also always remember my cousin giving me The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap for Christmas at my Grandma's get-togethers she always has on Christmas.

Favorite Video Game of all time?

Oooooo. Good question. It'd have to be Metroid Fusion. That game just terrified me as a child and I still loved it. I still beat it every few months.

Additional Comments?
The two things this app has helped me learn (other than a lot of other stuff)
1. Melee is extremely far from being optimized completely, after 14 years the game still has a lot to go before it's final.
2. Yoshi is fricken awesome.

Stay fresh everyone.

Thank you to Ivan for this awesome interview and providing some information behind Melee Handbook. It is currently available for Android and will be available soon for Apple Devices.
