Movie Review: Doctor Strange

IMDB Summary: Marvel's "Doctor Strange" follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City's Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fangirl Thoughts: The movie is visually stunning and therefore I would recommend paying for the IMAX 3D experience. I know that I am usually against that extra expense for a movie that is not animated but in this regard, it is in your best interest to pay for the extra.

I have never been big on the Doctor Strange character but they need him to do the whole Infinity Gauntlet storyline that Marvel is working on. Benedict Cumberbatch does a wonderful job as Strange and frankly the movie starts as a PSA about being on your phone when driving. The movie plays out as the usual with the main character being an arrogant jerk that is brought down and must find himself. He turns to the mystical East for assistance and that is where we get to meet The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). Take a moment and look up pictures of The Ancient One from the comics and you will understand why some of the fanbase was upset about the actor chosen.

The Star of the whole movie - The Cape - yup I said it. The cape was truly the star of the movie and you will find yourself clapping for it.

My gripe - Mordo (Chiewetel Ejiofor) while he does a wonderful job portraying that character, he is literally a "Magical Negro". In all the years that we have seen this role, we get to actually see the negro with actual magical powers. I giggled at this and I am sure those sitting around me wondering what I was laughing about.

The use of spells was well done and made you believe in that whole world and opens up the viewers to be prepared for what is coming next from Marvel. Overall I recommend the movie and would also say for you to stick around after the credits as there are scenes in both mid and post credits.

Check out the movie and let me know what you think.

Spoiler Alert - We get to see another infinity stone so we are closer to the Infinity Gauntlet Storyline so be prepared for all the characters coming together. Also the post credit was fun as you see Mordo "The Magical Negro" rebel and basically goes on a vengeance spree to make things right. I actually enjoy him going against the grain and no longer being complacent!
