CW Flash Ahead

Hey Everyone! 

The DC Comic superhero, Flash, will be fast tracked to get his on tv show on the CW. 

“We plan to introduce… the origin story of Dr. Barry Allen” — one of Flash’s multiple alter egos across DC lore, network boss Mark Pedowitz explained. Pedowitz also explained it is an origin story and Flash will not start with his powers.

Sadly Wonder Woman has been backburnered (is that a word?) The prequel series Amazon is on pause do to the "script not being ready". 

C'mon man, first Superman, then Arrow, now the Flash, but Wonder Woman just does not get her show. Geez! 

S/N - There are talks of a Supernatural spinoff that will be based in Chicago. 

 

TMNT: Out of the Shadows

Hey Everyone,

My fellow Turtle fans have something to be excited about again. I am sure you all were gravely hurt to hear about the new Turtles movie will have our Turtles being aliens and not mutants, but I digress. 

The latest TMNT game, Out of the Shadows, has a release date finally! It will cost around $14.99 and will be released on August 28th for Xbox360, PS3, and PC.

Here is some gameplay footage. 

As you can see from the gameplay the environment is hyper-realistic and has a combo-driven battle system.  It will feature up to four player co-op with each of the turtles being playable. 

Keep in mind that Raphael is my favorite, so if any of you add me as ProfessorWhite on Xbox understand that I call dibs on playing as Raph. 

The game looks great and I cannot wait until the release date.

Daytripper Review

Hey Everyone, 

This week for the graphic novel review: Daytripper. 

Back in February 2011 one of the best graphic novels I ever read was released, The Daytripper written and drawn by Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon. Gabriel and Fabio are identical Brazilian twins who live in Sao Paolo, Brazil. 

Daytripper is the story of the life of Bras de Olivia Domngos, but with a twist. At the end of each chapter Bras dies. This is meant to show how precious life is and how easily it can be taken away, a point that has been reiterated in real life with names like Trayvon and Oscar. 

But unlike real life we get to see what happens to Bras if fate twisted in a less cruel way. We get to see him meet the love of his life, have his first child, find his voice and achieve his dream of being a writer like his father.

 And that is what The Daytripper is about, it’s about the moments that make a life. I found that the chapters that affected me the most were the ones that I know personally, the despair and loneliness after a breakup, watching yourself and your best friend grow apart and become strangers, and the symmetry we all experience by both losing and becoming a parent.

Ba and Moon do a wonderful job of capturing these moments with their pens and brushes. They do an amazing job of immersing the reader into Sao Paolo, making the city and the country a living character. All the while conveying the characters thoughts and feelings through nothing more than the silent looks. I do not think it would be hyperbole to call this graphic novel a masterpiece and I considerate it a must read not just for fans of comics but for fans of great storytelling.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies Reborn

Hey Everyone, 

Exciting news the fantastic book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will again try to make it to the big screen. 

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies written by Seth Grahame-Smith in 2009 takes on the world of Pride and Prejudice if they were in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Great concept for a movie right?

Lilly Collins is rumored to be the lead and Burr Steers to direct. However one should not become too excited because this movie has had constant problems with making it to the big screen. 

In December 2009 Natalie Portman to star with David O. Russell to write and direct the screenplay. 

Then Mike White was brought on to direct, then Craig Gillespie. Portman exited as the lead in 2010 but stayed on as producer. Many actresses have been named from Scarlet Johansson to Emma Stone to Anne Hathaway to Blake Lively. 

For now Collins is named and we shall see if the book will make it to the big screen. I am hoping but after learning of all the drama for the past four years I will not be holding my breath. 

Xbox One Developers Kit in One

Hey Everyone, 

Markus "Notch" Persson creator of Minecraft  says Microsoft's decision to make every Xbox One a development kit is a "wonderful idea."

Persson has spoken out to in fact praise Microsoft's Indie Developers Policy and to mention how every Xbox can be used as a development kit. 

It actually seems like common sense to me to give developers the chance to work with the software and hardware to make the best video games available. 

Persson further stated "I realize there are other factors at play here, though, like a perceived need to make sure only ‘legitimate’ developers get access to it, so a monetary barrier might still be in place." In this regards Persson is basically stating that there will still be a fee to ensure that the only "real" developers will have access to the kit. 

Microsoft truly feels that the new policy will benefit students by allowing them the opportunity to program and develop games. We shall see how it all plays out.

Gamer Corner: Kai

Hey Everyone, 

Please meet Kai. My first female gamer interview!

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself?

I'm 52.  I started gaming with Pong in the 1970s.  My first console was an Atari 2600.  I am married, have two adult sons (both gamers, tabletop and console) and two grandchildren. 

2. What system do you currently game on?

I do tabletop RPGs, including DnD, Champions, GURPS, and Fudge.  I also play on the Xbox 360 and on the Wii, and I have a couple of games through Steam on my laptop.  I also play standard board games, CheapAss games (that is a brand), and some card games (but not the Magic-like collectibles).

3. What game is currently in your system right now? 

In the Wii, Lego Lord of the Rings.  In the Xbox 360, Walking Dead (the first chapter).

4. Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play?

I like the combination of problem-solving and combat.  

5. Would you recommend it?

I don't recommend the Wii: it's slow and not very responsive (i.e., the controller doesn't always cause the action onscreen that you performed in your hands).  I really like Walking Dead, it's a great mix of problem-solving and combat.

6. Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I intentionally don't follow news about gaming, because they (gamers, manufacturers) all think that because I'm a woman I don't matter.  Worse yet, I'm an old woman.  They seem to forget that I taught my kids to game and I'm teaching my grandchildren too.  

7. What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. Harcore, RPG gamer, etc. 

I don't.  I just game.  I play lots of games, I GM a DnD game and play in another group that moves around from Champions to GURPS to World of Darkness stuff.  I play arcade games and FPS on the XBox, and I use the Wii Fitness stuff.  I also occasionally play old text-based computer games like Adventure.  You can't put me in a box and game companies should stop trying.  

8. So with the new consoles coming out, which way are you leaning One or 4?

Neither, I'm sticking with my Xbox 360.  I'm a late adapter.  Besides, one of my sons will get the Xbox One and then tell me how it is, whether it's worth getting. 

9. Favorite Video Game of all time and why?  

Heroes of Might and Magic on the XBox 360.  The art is cute, it's a great mix of puzzle-solving, strategy, and combat, and it has good replay value.
