Gamer Corner: Kris

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I'm currently playing on a PS4 but my gaming history is a PS1, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4. I also built a 3k pc and all I use that for is movies, the only game I played on it is Starcraft 2. Basically I loved my PS1, I saved so hard to get and then the same again with the Xbox. I bought a 360 and all the hardware issues turned me off to Xbox. The red ring of death really changed my views on gaming.

What is your first memory of gaming?

My first memory was buying my first game PS One "Disruptor" it was a doom clone. The acting was cheezy and I never really understood the phrase "walk softly and carry a big stick especially when you side step the corners and you will do just fine." But this was my first ever FPS experience. I also remember Colony Wars, I haven't seen a game like that on console since. My favorite Xbox game was Manhunt it was illegal in Australia and Mortal Kombat Deception.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How's the overall game play and graphics?

I'm currently playing Dead Nation and Awesomnauts which I'm not really good at.

Would you recommend it, why?

The only game I could recommend at this point is Rayman legends, I never played the Rayman series and this game rocks and I think is a great step forward for platformers. The co op is great. It's less about lives and more about just being challenging.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I cannot wait for Dying Light and the Division. Also Tom Clancy' the Patriots. I cannot wait for the next gen Games, games not built on the Unreal 4 engine. Oh and Shadows of Mordoor looks awesome.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

I have been thinking and planning this for ages I had a new idea for a Silent Hill game with a more dynamic experience. But my most sound game is a 2d game with 3d sprites. I call it Dynamic Operation Armour or DOA it's a cross between Pokemon, Battle Tanks, 1942, Tekken, Castlevania and Front Mission. So basically you create your Armour randomly and you get different parts for different regions. The way you unlock more is by fighting other region players. When you are in voice chat party all your DOAs are talking to learn off of each other. They can go off and fight other people while you are not playing (this is passive) they just randomly go off fight each other and come back with a battle report.

It's got a one on one fighter mode like Tekken. Your DOAs transform into planes and tanks hence "dynamic". That allows the battle modes of 1942 style and battle tanks. Then you play 4 player co op and take down big bosses like Castlevania. A turn based co op big storyline we haven't seen a RPG like this since front mission on PS2. I've got a lot of ideas and the only way I can describe them is by using other titles to describe the gameplay style.
Thoughts on this new generation of consoles - Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

I'm worried the Wii is having issues and Xbox One sales aren't the greatest. We are also seeing more and more technically unsound games (basement crawl). Also it's strange to see how Call of Duty has effected the games industry whether we know it or not. Titanfall only having a multiplayer mode, people asking how do we market a timesplitters game?

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I don't know, ask me in a year. Sometimes I feel like the Golden Age of Gaming is over. All these new consoles have changed everything. But we still haven't seen the full power of them yet, so that gives me hope. Xbox and PS are leaking exclusives, I think this is pretty bad for gaming as a whole, I also see Wii U owners recommending a PC over the console and their immediate rejection of people's ideas for changing Nintendo's strategy to start selling the Wii U. When you talk to them you may as well have threatened their family it's that bad.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

I really wish rather than creating more and more gimmicks like Kinect, PS Eye, or stupid impractical controllers, we hone the tech we have.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

I'll just rattle off my favorites Silent Hill 1 and 2, Resident Evil 2, Colony Wars, Timesplitters, Mortal Kombat Deception, and Manhunt.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?
