Bitten Book to TV Show Review

Bitten was written by Kelly Armstrong, a fantasy novel published in 2001, and the first book in the Women of the Otherworld series. It is Canadian author Kelley Armstrong's first novel.

Synopsis: Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf. Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must recon with who, and what, she is in this passionate, page-turning novel that begins the Women of the Otherworld series.

Book Thoughts: The book is the first in the series and the first for the author. Sadly you can tell that it is the first in the series. I found myself skipping paragraphs that became too wordy and lost the point by the end of the page. Once I understood the writing I knew where to skip. The book was unnecessarily long and dragged. However, I believe the writing gets better as the series continues so get through this book and you will be fine.

Okay, I am done talking about the technical so lets talk about the actual story. The story was decent. I enjoyed reading about the one and only female werewolf. I understand Elena's interaction with the entire pack and the one who turned her. I understood her need to be normal even if I know that could never work for her. The author did a great job developing the reader's loyalty to the characters. I would recommend reading the book especially now that it is a tv show.

TV Show Thoughts: Elena is played by Laura Vandervoort who does a decent job with the character. You also get to put a face to Phillip played by Paul Greene and Clayton played by Greyston Holt. I find myself routing for Phillip just because he is that hot. There is a decent amount of eye candy so women can enjoy the show. There is enough werewolf action for men to enjoy it. The first few episodes were stilted but the series has seem to gotten better and finally seems to flow better. I look forward to seeing where it goes. The show comes on 8pm EST on Sci-Fi check local listings for your date and time.
