Graphic Tees: FunkyT

Tell me a little bit about your company and the founders?

I had the concept for FunkyT from my younger years working within retail and fashion. It was my younger brother who inspired me to put the vision of concepts into action after years of sharing and producing design ideas.

From 2009 the groundwork started with a mass of research and gathering content from friends and the general public. Flash-forward to 2013 and many sleepless nights later and FunkyT was finally born.

As opposed to simply putting out and producing deigns the mantra of FunkyT is "designs are to have a meaning that you can connect with at a physical or emotional level. 'It is going to be with you for long time', so, why not have it mean something".

With that being said each design has a short description of either its conceptual design and or meaning. The long term goal is to become the brand that means something to everyone and anyone who comes into contact with it.

What made you decide to get into your field?

I wanted to create and wear a brand that’s main focus was more than simply income. Being able to share the concepts we have and each design having a meaning is the continuous pushing factor that keeps us going.

What is the vision of your company? What do you hope to achieve?

Simply put ‘We’re More Than just A T-shirt’. We design concepts that we and our consumers can connect with. So, whether it’s a jack in the box design taking you back to your childhood or the Birdcage of Love representing pain and new love, its means something to you.

The vision is creating a brand over time that people can connect with, primarily the designs. Our goals are to ensure our products can be related to across all consumers and over time it’s a brand that people will want to be associated with.

Our mission is to build a brand and designs that over the years will stand the test of time and enable consumers to reflect on and connect with.

What is your favorite design? Why?

Favorite design has to be the female t-shirt ‘kiss her mind’. This is more due to the statement it represents. ‘If you kiss her mind, her body will follow’. It’s a favorite as it symbolize what most men can’t seem to grip and what most women will say is essential in understanding the female mind and in any relationship being able to receive all she has to offer.

As a statement it’s caused positive healthy debates between both men and women and that’s what we’re all about. We want our tees to make people talk and point.

What do you think about the rise in popularity of graphic tees? Where do you see the field going?

I think it’s a good thing but like all products and services I feel it has to be for the right reasons. An actual love affair with fashion and wanting to create a brand that will stand the test of times as oppose to graphic tees who are here today but gone tomorrow.

It’s an ever growing field and I truly believe it will be dependent on the one brand that can add the x-factor to its product, whether that be the way it’s produced, designed, manufactured, and/or marketed.

As of now you have spray-on fabric which will change the consumers demand and perception of fashion. As long as these factors are followed closely by graphic tee designers it could work hand in hand with niche designers.

Thank you to FunkyT for the great interview. Understanding the thoughts behind a graphic tee makes it even better in my opinion. Check out their line and share this post.
