Dead Ever After: Sookie Stackhouse Series Ends

Good Reads Synopsis: Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clear cut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated. Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime. But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough.

My Thoughts: Okay so I picked up this series from my mother. I liked the cover of Dead Until Dark and became instantly a fan of Charlaine Harris. I looked forward to the books and trust me Sookie isn't as stupid in the book as she is on the True Blood show. The series added great elements and I always looked forward to the next installment. Then something went awry. I found myself stalled at the second to last book. I finally finished the series. I must say I am upset at how horrible the series ended and after watching a few episodes of the last season of True Blood, I see that the show is going to end just as bad.

Spoiler Alert: Sookie is given a magical fairy wish and instead of using it to save Eric she saves Sam from dying. I thought it was sad that she claims to love Eric but would not do what it takes to make their relationship work. Frankly throughout the whole relationship she never gave but got mad at Eric for not being forthcoming. The book ends with Sookie and Sam together which added to me shaking my head at Harris. Spoilers End.

The book felt overall rushed and incomplete. When I got to the end I continued to flipped because I was confused and felt that the ending was incomplete and not thought through. I really supported the established relationships in the book and to have such an abrupt ending  and change left me feeling empty. The series was great and it was sad to see it end in a foolish way. I did enjoy something about this book. I liked that people of the past came back into the series. We got to see friends and enemies of the past and it was an attempt to wrap things up. A bad attempt. but an attempt none the less.

If you read the series. Let me know your thoughts?
