Movie Review: 50 Shades of Grey

IMDB Storyline: When Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), a literature student, goes to interview the wealthy Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), as a favor to her roommate Kate Kavanagh (Eloise Mumford), she encounters a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating man. The innocent and naive Ana started to realize she wants him, despite his enigmatic reserve and advice, she finds herself desperate to get close to him. Not able to resist Ana's beauty and independent spirit, Christian Grey admits he wants her too, but in his own terms. Ana hesitates as she discovers the singular tastes of Christian Grey - despite the embellishments of success, his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is consumed by the need to control everything.

My Thoughts: I did read the book first and I had my own personal thoughts on the book/movie. However I will admit that this movie was way better than I thought. The acting was great and you felt the chemistry between Johnson and Dornan. There were times that Johnson over did the innocent act for Anastasia but it did not take away from the movie. If you read the book you will enjoy seeing Escala, Charlie Tango, the Glider, etc. It hit a lot of great points from the book.

Okay so the part you really care about. The sex scenes were done just right. They were not overdone and had just the right amount of steaminess. I tip my hat to the writer and director for knowing how to showcase the scenes without going to porny. Dornan did a fantastic job but Johnson went a bit on the porny side but overall you will not be disappointed. I would recommend this movie for the ladies. Get your girlfriends together, go to a dine-in, have a glass of wine, and enjoy yourself. Do not torture your man by making him go.

FYI: I heard that the other movies have been green lit. Oh, and the ending is abrupt so be prepared.

  1. For the most part, Fifty Shades of Grey’s big-screen adaptation is very true to the book. From the 1st scene with Katherine "Kate" Kavanagh being sick & asking Anastasia "Ana" Steele to do her a favor in interviewing Christian Grey. Once at Grey House, Anastasia meets Christian and what follows is very accurate in the book. Now, I read the Trilogy, but seeing it come alive on screen was amazing. Especially, the Red Room; it took me back a bit. I knew what was coming, but seeing all his toys was breathing for me. I couldn’t believe how much stuff one can utilize as a Dominant on a Submissive. I was worried that the sex scene would not live up to the book, but it actually did. However, there was one sex scene that was missing which was Christian’s rawest moment if you ask me. Does anyone remember that bathroom scene in the Georgia’s Hotel? Well you won’t see it in the movie or Ana getting a new cell since she is still using an old flip phone. Plus, where is Christian’s housekeeper, psychiatrist, & finally, Ethan Kavanagh, Kate’s brother, who doesn’t appear in the film at all. Now if you weren’t a fan of the book, won’t be a fan of the film either. Nevertheless, if you have an open mind you will enjoy E. L. James’ Series. ‪#‎EroticRomanticDrama‬ ‪#‎UniversalPictures‬ ‪#‎FiftyShadesOfGrey‬ ‪#‎DominantAndSubmissive‬ ‪#‎ELJames‬
