Movie Review: Divergent

Hello Everyone,

I know I usually do a random movie but I am being lazy this week and will just combine my Random Movie Monday with my movie review. This week will be Divergent. Directed by Neil Burger.

AMC Story Line: DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into five distinct factions based on human virtues. Abnegation, meant for the selfless; Amity, meant for the peaceful; Candor, meant for the honest; Dauntless, meant for the brave; and Erudite, meant for the Intelligent. Beatrice "Tris" Prior (Shailene Woodley) born into Abnegation is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader, Jeanine (Kate Winslet), to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late. Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.

I truly enjoyed the book so keep in mind that I did read the book first. The movie surprisingly stayed overall close to the book with is a plus. There were some changes but not any that ruined the story. So if you read the book you will not be too disappointed. I felt like I was in the book and saw the characters brought to life.

Shailene Woodley as Tris was a great choice. She appeared weak when she started out and then strong as the movie progressed. The dynamics between her and Four (Theo James) was believable and Miles Teller did an awesome job as Peter. He quickly became the guy that you did not like. Zoe Kravitz played Christina quite well. Overall I think the cast was done well.

The action sequences were well done. You felt yourself jump onto the train for the first time and jump off the train. You enjoyed jumping into the hole into Dauntless. You felt yourself flying through the sky on the zipline. You felt Tris's urgency to save those that matter to her and you felt the fear in the feasrscapes. I overall say I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it if you enjoy the young adult genre. Check it out. It is not just another Hunger Games.
