Gamer Corner: Jeff

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.
My name is Jeff Trocchio and I’ve been gaming since age 4-5 on an Apple IIe “green screen.” I’ve owned a Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, Dreamcast, XBox, PS2, XBox360, PS3, and numerous self built computers. I run an AMD powered rig right now with an ASUS M97 R2.0 MB, 16GB of Patriot DDR3 RAM, and a Samsung EVO 256GB SSD. I run an onboard backup drive and a NAS.

I’m big into racing sims, and MMORPG’s. I dabble in FPS and turn based strategy games as well.

What is your first memory of gaming?
When I was 4-5 years old playing “Test Drive” by Accolade on the Apple IIe green screen.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?
I play Assetto Corsa for my racing fix, and Elder Scrolls Online for my MMORPG fix. Assetto Corsa is one of the best racing games on the market. Although it is in beta, the feedback from the game is one of the most realistic I’ve played. ESO is a fun and challenging MMO, with both PvP and PvE aspects. I get to play with my fiancee as she enjoys MMO’s as well. Graphics are very good on my medium spec’d system.

Would you recommend it, why?
Assetto Corsa I wouldn’t recommend unless you are into that type of simulation. Its not a Forza or Gran Turismo where you can pick up a controller and go to town. Assetto Corsa requires concentration unlike most racing sims I’ve played. ESO I definitely recommend as a fun game with questing and cooperative gameplay as a highlight. There is a monthly fee so keep that in mind.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?
Definitely Tom Clancy’s “The Division”

If you could design your own game what would it be like?
I would love a car game that I’ve played before on floppy disk. You could upgrade your muscle car with all kinds of parts and race for pinks. But you could choose who you raced, and could mix and match engines and transmissions with the proper knowledge.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?
Honestly, I generally wait 6 months to a year to even pick a new console up. I feel like these companies push these units out before extensive testing, and I’m much too old now to be a beta tester for a $400-500 console. All considering I can go right to my PC and grab a $300 video card and be back in the game there.
What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?
It’s good to see these Indie developers coming up and offering extensive titles in programs like Steam. While the large publishers seem to be cranking out the same story over and over, its nice to see the little guys sticking around.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
If I could donate money to the Indie developers and help them get their products up to “par” I feel that’s how I’d like the future to go. You need competition and when you only have CoD and Battlefield vying for the title, it gets a little boring. I think this is why I latched onto Assetto Corsa. They have a small development team, but they are taking on the big boys of sim racing.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?
Need For Speed. The original. The one nobody played. It included 6-8 cars, and just a few tracks, but there were, physics (dare I say) where you couldn’t take every corner at full speed or drift through it to “gain an advantage.” This was the game, in addition to World Circuit, that got me into sim racing.

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?
guidot42 on XBL (which I’m almost never on)
guidot42 on Playstation
guidot on Steam
guidot42 on Raptr
guidot on ESO
