Gamer Corner: Beto

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

My name is Adalberto but everybody calls me Beto for short, Haha! I'm 24, into computers, Windows, Mac, Linux you name it! I am currently taking classes for computer programming and computer science. I classify myself as a Console gamer, even though I like mobile games like Final Fantasy IV, Minecraft, Clash of Clans, Throne Rush, and my favorite one so far is Castle Clash,

What is your first memory of gaming?

Omg my very first memory of gaming. I was at my Aunt;s house, playing with my cousins and my Mom had just gotten back from shopping for Christmas, and what do you know! A NES!!! Omg i was jumping and screaming to play it. Hahaha! Of course I had to wait until after Christmas to play it.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

The game I am currently playing with right now is GTA San Andreas on my Galaxy s3. I had to flash my phone back to 4.3 because I was on 4.4 KitKat which wasn't able to play the game. I love GTA San Andreas! And now being able to be mobile and play it anywhere is awesome! The gameplay is great! The graphics are phenomenal! The joystick on bottom left is a little sensitive, but you get used to it.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would recommend this game for your Android or Iphone. It is that awesome and brought back so many memories when I used to play all of the GTAs.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Not that I know of. However I still need to play Call of Duty Ghosts.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

Zombies, zombies everywhere! Kinda like the Walking Dead with a combination of Skyrim! Wait make it GTA, hahaha, make it a modern game, with open map, add mini missions etc, and there is no final chapter to the game. However if you do get bitten well that;s game over for you.

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

Not a big fan of what the Wii U did, I'm just not digging it. I love how the Xbox One and PS4 consoles look, but if I had to choose one I would go with…… wow that;s a tough one hahaha, I would pick the Xbox One.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

I love where the gaming industry is, I just think they should make the games more life like, lets say you get shot in the leg, well you better be limping or crawling! Hahaha! That's what gets me most of the time. The Gaming industry is already working hard on the graphics of most games! I mean when I started playing Skyrim geeesh did I felt like I was in another world literally! Felt like the Matrix hahaha!

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

10 years from now? I see the industry creating life like gaming, and I mean spot on gaming! I am happy with the way the gaming industry is heading. If I had the power, I would go with making the games as lifelike as possible! For instance, a SIMS game would be so lifelike it would be like if your actually controlling someone in real life! Or a shooting game for that matter! heck why not go all the way and add scents to these games for example your running down a green hill, you can smell the fresh grass, and the smell of the dirt wet from the rain….BOOOM explosion, you smell fire, smoke, wet burning grass, then you hear and see bullets flying….. yeah epic intro to a game right there hahaha!

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

Super Mario for SNES, I just loved that game! It was simple and straight to the point!

Additional Thoughts and Comments?

STOP ADDING THE BUY NOW FEATURE TO UNLOCK MORE LEVELS! WHAT HAPPENED TO HEY YOU GOTTA BEAT IT TO UNLOCK MORE LEVELS NOT PAY FOR IT GEESH!

Would you like to share your gamer tag and the system so others may add you?

I would if I had one, however I'm not online at the moment, my system right now is the ps3. Until I get my Xbox One hahaha!

Thank you to Beto for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at fangirlcontact@gmail.com.

Teen Wolf S.3. Ep. 17 “Silverfinger” review

Flashback of Mr. Argent seeing all those around him being killed. He was part of a gun deal in Japan where the shadows turned up and killed everyone. Argent destroyed a mask of one of them with his gun before fleeing. One person survived the fight and had a silver finger. I guess that is where the title comes from. Argent believes SilverFinger will be able to help them.

Kara asks Scott to see him as a werewolf. He changes for her. She touches his face and really cheesy music is playing in the background. Aiden and Ethan team up to protect Scott from the Demonic Ninjas. Stiles tries to show Scott about the key and numbers and now everything is gone. Scott doesn't believe Stiles was behind it. Scott thinks the Demonic Ninjas are not after him but rather Kara.

Argent, Isaac, and Alison work together to find SilverFinger. Stiles sees Mrs. McCall and lets her know all his symptoms. Due to his lack of sleep she sedates him. As he is falling asleep he says “Thanks Mom”. Talk about pulling the heart strings. Scott ditches his protection crew and takes off with Kara. The Argents use Isaac to go sell a special gun to bring SilverFinger out. Alison finally kisses Isaac to calm him down.

Scott takes Kara back to his house. He plans to hole up in there to protect Kara. Mrs. McCall recognizes the symptoms of Stiles being the same as his mother who died. Kara shows Scott a Chinese mythology about a kitsune that is a fox with powers. Mr. McCall shows up and lets Scott and Kara know that he knows they broke into his office and has pictures of them on his laptop. Mrs. McCall comes in as the sun sets and the Five begin to appear. Mr. McCall gets stabbed and then the werewolves show up to the fight. Sliding in through smoke and jumping in through windows. They use mountain ash to keep them out.

Argents finally get in to talk to SilverFinger who says the Five are demons.  Turns out Argent saved him during that fight. Derek has been following Scott all day. Mr. McCall is bleeding out and they are trapped in the house. SilverFinger lets them know that the demons are looking for one that is possessed by a dark spirit. There is no man made weapon to destroy them. He says to let the Five destroy the evil spirit. Aiden and Ethan figure out that Kara is not human. There are 13 kinds of Kitsune and they can be evil but not necessarily.

Alison lets them know the Five will not hurt them. Scott tells everyone to not attack. Scott and Kara meet the Five head on and are found not to be evil. They are now both marked. Stiles wakes up from his sleep. Stiles wanders the hall and is confronted by the Five. He grabs the hand and rips it apart. He crushes the lightening bug from the Shadow. Scott finds Stiles alone in the hospital. Stiles acts as though nothing has happened and ask what is going on.

My Thoughts: Totally routing for Kara and Scott. They continue to develop that relationship. I vote for them and  not so much for Alison and Isaac.

I think they moved too soon with revealing Stiles as being the evil spirit. They should have left it with a question mark for a couple episodes. The evil spirit picked Stiles for a reason. The question is why because Alison and Scott have the same window open in their brain so why did the spirit go for him. Plus what is the connection to his mother. Maybe there is more to Stiles then we originally thought.

Also I still believe Mr. McCall knows all about the supernatural and appears that he does have an agenda. The question is what is that agenda.

Bitten Book to TV Show Review

Bitten was written by Kelly Armstrong, a fantasy novel published in 2001, and the first book in the Women of the Otherworld series. It is Canadian author Kelley Armstrong's first novel.

Synopsis: Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf. Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must recon with who, and what, she is in this passionate, page-turning novel that begins the Women of the Otherworld series.

Book Thoughts: The book is the first in the series and the first for the author. Sadly you can tell that it is the first in the series. I found myself skipping paragraphs that became too wordy and lost the point by the end of the page. Once I understood the writing I knew where to skip. The book was unnecessarily long and dragged. However, I believe the writing gets better as the series continues so get through this book and you will be fine.

Okay, I am done talking about the technical so lets talk about the actual story. The story was decent. I enjoyed reading about the one and only female werewolf. I understand Elena's interaction with the entire pack and the one who turned her. I understood her need to be normal even if I know that could never work for her. The author did a great job developing the reader's loyalty to the characters. I would recommend reading the book especially now that it is a tv show.

TV Show Thoughts: Elena is played by Laura Vandervoort who does a decent job with the character. You also get to put a face to Phillip played by Paul Greene and Clayton played by Greyston Holt. I find myself routing for Phillip just because he is that hot. There is a decent amount of eye candy so women can enjoy the show. There is enough werewolf action for men to enjoy it. The first few episodes were stilted but the series has seem to gotten better and finally seems to flow better. I look forward to seeing where it goes. The show comes on 8pm EST on Sci-Fi check local listings for your date and time.

If you had a chance to see the show share your thoughts in the comments.

Smash Bros: Lucario Announced

A new challenger approaching!

Lucario is a character with fast attack speed and decent maneuverability. He (I think a he, I am just going to go with that) has a strong air game due to the speed and knock back of his aerial attacks. His forward and up airs are great for juggling and stringing into each other at low percents, the forward air is also useful as a defensive move and general combo-filler, and his down air has very fast start-up and strong edge-guarding ability.

Lucario's aerials in general are a good set of approaching and defensive moves, due to having floaty physics, decent air speed, and the ability to wall jump and wall cling. Lucario's recovery move allows a variety of unpredictable recovery angles and the ability to wall cling and wall jump after use. Most of Lucario's attacks have unexpectedly large hit boxes, most notably his forward smash.

I haven't had a chance to play against this character. Does anyone play with this character? You know who I am waiting for, Ice Climbers!!!! Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

Movie Mondays: After Earth

Random Movie Mondays is back and I had the chance to check out the movie After Earth.

Story Line: A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape. With Cyper critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

My Thoughts: I heard this movie received a lot of negative reviews. I can understand why. Jaden was overboard with the emotional teenager routine. I understand that his sister was killed right in front of him but he takes it so far that he becomes whiny and annoying. As a viewer there were points in time when you want to yell at him to calm down or just die already.

Then you have Will's character. I understand that Cypher was a huge deal but his lack of emotion when dealing with his son was over the top. He needed to have more emotion especially when his son almost died from a toxin. In the attempt to make the character stoic, they made him emotionless and hard to identify with.

The movie did fall flat but it is not as bad as the critics made it out to be. There were interesting moments that makes the viewer able to see that there was a potentially decent movie under the mistakes. I would recommend you see it and share your thoughts in the comments. Let me know if you think it was horrible or not as bad as the critics said it was.

The Vampire Diaries s5 ep.12 “The Devil Inside” Review

Katherine is now in Elena’s body and uses Matt to help fill in the blanks. Damon gets rid of Katherine’s body, however Katherine needs that body to complete the traveler spell to have complete control of the body. Aaron lets Caroline know that the Augustine experiments have been stopped. Aaron finds himself trapped by Enzo. Nadia ties Katherine to the bed to make sure nothing happens when Elena comes through.

Enzo shows up the boathouse where Damon finds him. Enzo brought him Aaron as a gift for them to finish him off. Matt is having a huge welcome home party for Tyler. Katherine comes to the party. Stefan talks to Elena who is really Katherine. She is there to find out where her body is and is a little shock when Stefan does not feel bad about Katherine’s death. Enzo is trying to encourage Damon to kill Aaron. Damon breaks Enzo’s neck and compels Aaron to leave town.

Katherine believes her old body is buried in the tomb. Caroline spills her guts to Katherine about her hooking up with Klaus. Katherine purposely sets Caroline up to continue talking about it when Tyler is within hearing distance. She then acts surprised to see him there and Caroline is upset.

Katherine starts to do the rest of the curse. In the middle of it, Elena takes back over the body. Caroline goes to talk to Tyler. Tyler tells her to walk away. Stefan intervenes and Tyler lets him know that she hooked up with Klaus. Stefan still punches Tyler for being a douche. Elena ruins the ritual and takes off. The spell is able to continue and Katherine now has complete control of her body.

Damon tries to let Elena know that he wants her back. However, with Katherine in control of the body, she breaks up with Damon. Tyler is sitting and trying to drink away his problems. Matt is there to comfort him.  Katherine tells Nadia that she is staying and asks Nadia to stay with her. Katherine says she wants Stefan back. Damon falls off the wagon and he and Enzo corner Aaron and kill him.

My Thoughts:

I vote for Stefan and Caroline to get together. I think they will be fun and are meant to be. Those two have really developed a friendship and I think it would be good for both of them. I am sad to see that Katherine won this round so easily. I hope that Stefan does not fall for her tricks. Also Tyler needs to get it together. He did horrible things in New Orleans and yet he wants Caroline to be pure and perfect for him.

I wonder how long it will take for the Scooby Gang to figure out Elena is gone?
