Gamer Corner: Ryan

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learn what he is enjoying at the moment.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself?

Right now, I'm a student who absolutely loves technology and keeps myself up to date
on what is going on in the tech and gaming worlds.

2. What rig do you currently game on?

Right now, I play on my Wii U, but I also play on my PC, which I hope to eventually
replace with a dedicated gaming computer.

3. What game are you currently playing right now?

I've been playing The Legend of Zelda, the Wind Waker HD, along with Star Trek
Online for my computer.

4. Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play?

Zelda has a huge world and it's very fun to explore. Star Trek Online also has a huge
universe, many other players with whom to interact, and a ton of non-main-mission content.

5. Would you recommend it?

Absolutely. Both of these games are absolutely beautiful and rich with content.

6. Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to several 3DS games, including Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies,
Pokemon Y, and The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds. I'm also looking forward
to some hardcore games for the Wii U such as Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

7. What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as
well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

I consider myself to be a mix of a PC, console, and portable gamer, because each has
its unique games and playing styles. For example, portable games seem to be more lighthearted
while PC and console games tend to be darker, but also more graphically satisfying.

8. So with the new consoles coming out, which way are you leaning One or 4? (Ignore if
you are a PC gamer)

I think both consoles are neat, and if was going to get one, it would be the Ps4 because
of its free online services, Indie game support, and more innovation, though neither is
really as innovative as the Wii U's new Gamepad controller, though the Wii U's
performance pales in comparison to the new offerings by Sony and Microsoft.

9. What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?
I think the gaming industry, quite frankly, needs more true innovation. The updates by
the console makers are mostly expected updates to performance, graphical quality, and
hardware. There hasn't really been any ground-breaking innovation since 2006, when
Nintendo came out with a completely new way to play games with its Wii.

10. If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?
If I was in charge of the gaming industry, I would push for more mobile integration, such
as being able to play whole console-quality games on the new, blazingly-fast phones out
there now, and I would push for more integration between console, computer, and
mobile. That way, everyone can play the same game, regardless of where they are. This
would push gaming not only into people's living rooms, but also into commutes, off time,
and basically everywhere they go.

11. 10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that
direction?

I see the industry as a more unified front, with PCs and consoles getting simultaneous,
equal releases, and people finally being able to fully customize their experiences, regardless of platform.

12. Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

My absolute favorite game is the Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword, because it truly
brought Zelda into the world. You could go where you want, do the dungeons (to an
extent) in the order you want, and you could go at your own pace.

13. Additional Thoughts and Comments?

I hope the gaming industry becomes more unified and seamless, instead of having
separate categories of gamers, like portables, consoles, and PC. All games and gamers
should become one large community.

Thank you to Ryan for a fantastic interview. If you would like to be interviewed for Gamer Corner please contact me at fangirlcontact@gmail.com

American Horror Story Season 3, Ep. 3 “The Replacements”

Important Moments:
Show stars with Fiona drinking and having pills. She flashbacks and is talking to her mother in New Orleans in 1971. Fiona’s mother was a supreme. You have to master the seven wonders to become the supreme. She challenges her mother and how she will become the next supreme and her mother is getting weaker. She kills her mother by slicing her throat. Fiona is seen by the butler and cuts out his tongue. He is still serving the coven to this day.

Fiona meets with a doctor to learn about plastic surgery and learns she is not eligible for elective surgery. Zoe meets with Kyle’s mother. Zoe’s phone call to visit came right as his mother was about to commit suicide. Fiona lets Madame learn that the world has changed and she will learn the new world. She makes her a maid. Queenie challenges Madame. Fiona makes Madame Queenie’s personal slave for being racist.

Zoe is amazed to see how well Kyle is healing. Misty wants to keep Kyle and he fights her off and leaves with Zoe. Madison and Nan stop by to see the new neighbors, Joan and Luke. Madison gets kicked out of the house. Turns out the new neighbors are very religious. Delia is at the doctor’s office and is not able to get pregnant. Fiona is declining so a new supreme must be rising. Joan threatens Fiona. Fiona worries that Madison is the new supreme. Kyle is dropped off at his mother’s house. Turns out Kyle was being molested by his mother. Delia goes to visit Marie about a fertility problem. Delia is upset to learn that Fiona’s actions causes Marie to refuse to help Delia

Fiona meets with Madison and offers to teach her magic. Queenie and Madame see the beast that Madame created. Queenie takes charge of the situation. She is able to lure the beast away with the blood of Madame. She tries to make love to the beast. Kyle becomes upset from the abuse and kills his mother. Fiona is getting Madison drunk and looks like she is doing what she must to stop the supreme from rising. Zoe finds the body of Kyle's mother. Fiona lets Madison know that she is the next Supreme. Fiona has cancer and knows that as she is dying, Madison is getting stronger.

Fiona is having regrets about how she was a bad supreme. She tries to make Madison kill her but ends up killing Madison instead. The butler is there to clean the blood off her hands. Fiona says the coven does not need a new supreme.

My Thoughts:

I enjoy that Fiona put Madame in her place. She needs to let go of that racism and quick. I was worried about the show pushing the race card too much but it looks like they have pulled back from the edge at least.
Kyle looks very creepy to me. He has dead man eyes. Misty has all kinds of problems. I find it interesting that when a new supreme rising the old one declines. If Delia is not able to get pregnant then the new supreme is not of her bloodline.

Angela looks so awesome relaxing on her throne playing solitaire. She looks powerful. I enjoy Gaby as well. She is doing a wonderful job as Queenie and adds a good dynamic to the show, I am just a little thrown off by her trying to make love to the beast. That raises all kinds of questions.

Fiona is selfish to the bone. She causes Delia to lose her chance at having a baby. I wouldn't be surprised if she cursed her womb somehow. I think Fiona would do anything to make sure a new supreme does not rise. There should have been a supreme in Delia's generation and the fact that there was not one is questionable. Now she killed the supreme in Zoe's generation so what happens now? That is too many generations without a supreme.

Revolution Season 2, Ep. 5 “One Riot, One Ranger”

Important Moments:

Monroe and Charlie are working together to figure out how to get into the town. Aaron lets Miles and Rachel know that he contributed to the guys being burned up. Texas Rangers comes to town and it’s Bobby from Supernatural!!! Texas Ranger Bobby! The patriots stop the patrols and try to stop Texas from finding out what they are doing. Of coarse Miles has a history with Texas.

Texas wants proof that the patriots are up to no good and that Texas needs to make a move. Charlie gets inside the wall and lets Miles know about the bounty on Rachel’s head.

Flashback: Aaron applied for a teacher position when he first came to town with Rachel. At first he is denied for smelling like booze and looking like death, but he is able to get the position in the end. Aaron is smacked around after finding Cynthia’s boyfriend cheating. He gets mad as he is walking away and a fire starts inside the car and the cheaters die and there are lightening bugs in the background.

Monroe says he is here to help and Miles does not want his help.  Aaron packed up his stuff and left. The train area is scrubbed clean but they Miles, Charlie, and Monroe are spotted by the patriots.

Neville and group are ambushed and he is quick to shoot and save the day. Rachel finds Aaron who is upset about killing the two guys. Neville performs field surgery to get the bullet out of the woman. Neville leaves her saying he wants to be a patriot she appears to be a rebel within. She lets him know that his son is at the reprogramming center and she will take him there if he helps her.

Miles, Monroe, and Charlie are ambushed but they get away and have a patriot captive. Aaron passes out and has a flash and sees Charlie, Miles, and Monroe together. Rachel comes in ready to kill Monroe but Charlie stops her mother. Monroe shoots Ranger Bobby in the back and just to set a frame up on the Patriots.

My Thoughts:

I am intrigued by what Aaron can do now. If the nano nytes are controlled by his mind via the lightening bugs, imagine the destruction that he could accomplish. Okay so Miles tried to take out the Texas guy. Remember when Miles sent his protégé to Texas for a time, I wonder if they are going to reveal what happened to him while in Texas.

I hope that Monroe can be redeemed maybe just a little before he dies. If he is killed I am sure it will be by saving Miles or the family. I swear Miles and Monroe are the perfect bromance gone wrong in my opinion. I still think Neville is awesome. He does what needs to be done by his standards only. He loves his family and has no problems killing for them if need be.

Next week will be interesting to see what happens to Monroe.

Dr. Who 50th Anniversary Teaser

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special is quickly approaching! BBC ONE just released a teaser for the 50th to build some hype, and the internet has been buzzing about it! While this is not the long awaited trailer that was shown at SDCC, it's still pretty awesome! If you play it in slow motion there are so many hidden gems for hardcore Whovians. I won't spoil it for anyone, see how many you can find! I will add-in that the theme song to this trailer is amazing, I am really hoping its the new intro for future episodes.

Watch the Teaser:

On a side note, word has it that Matt Smith has also finished filming the Christmas Special, and his last day as The Doctor. Sad day indeed, but also a new start with Capaldi as our new Doctor. There are many questions that need to be answered and Moffat has stated this "may not be" the last regeneration!

Will this be explained during the 50th? or during the newest season?! We will have to patiently, ok maybe not patiently, await the day to arrive......The Day of The Doctor! #SAVETHEDAY

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 Ep. 5 “Girl in the Flower Dress”

Important Moments

Show starts with a street performer who uses fire. He meets a woman in a flower dress who is interested in his fire power. Of coarse she uses her feminine wiles to distract and kidnap him. Ward and Skye are playing Battleship and Coulson and May say how well Skye is fitting in. Foreshadowing anyone? Shield is contacted because he was taken. They are told that the Rising Tide has hacked into the system.

The lady in the dress wants to rename the magician as “Scorch” and claims she is a friend. The hacker pulls a special move and stops the team from following them. Skye is apparently working with the hacker. She does the horizontal limbo with the guy.  May shows up and she is cold busted! Skye claims she was working Miles to get the information out of him. Fitz cannot believe that Skye betrayed them.

The Lady in the dress and her team experiment on Scorch and make him stronger. The power quickly goes to his head. Coulson questions his gut decisions. Skye finds out that Miles sold information to the centipede people. It is the same fire experiment that they were pulling in Iron Man 3. Centipede is removing the platelets from Scorch to help make their serum stable. Chen has become power hungry and wants to destroy Centipede and Shield. They hackers work to help shield and Chen is given extra serum which makes him explode.

Miles is given freedom and Skye is given a second chance. Coulson demands for Skye to tell what she is hiding. She shares all the information she has on herself hoping to find information on her parents. Skye only was able to find one document that was blocked by Shield. She is given a bracelet that will stop her ability to hack and is able to stay. Coulson says she will help her find her parents. Centipede is determined to make the serum work. The woman in the dress is speaking to a man in prison and says they need information from the clairvoyant.

My Thoughts:

Poor street performer, he did not think with his big brain when he decided to show off his fire tricks. Obviously the aspect of having the Rising Tide hacking Shield means that Skye is not behind it. It is just too obvious. They needed to set that up better. Skye is working with the hacker. I still think that in the end Skye will pick the team. I enjoy that they are still pulling aspects from the movies. By using a guy with fire power they are able to neutralize the explosive nature of their experiment.

More exploding people. Coulson still believes Skye is worth saving. I enjoy the twist of her missing parents. It should be interesting to see why her parents were erased by Shield. So who is with me in thinking that Coulson either has a direct connection to Skye's parents or is Skye's father?
