Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S1, Ep. 12 “Seeds” Review

Show starts with some kids playing in a pool that starts to freeze as they are in it. The kid puts on a Shield hoodie as he is pulled from the frozen pool. Skye is concerned about Coulson being holed up in his office. Skye, Fitz, Simmons, and Ward go back to SHIELD to investigate the pool disaster. Coulson and May talk about his findings and she tells him to not dwell on it. May has found a lead about Skye’s past and her and Coulson team up to work together to track down the lead.

While Fitz and Simmons are giving a lecture one of the kids from the pool incident becomes frozen. Fitz, Simmons, Ward, and Skye are able to save Donnie.  They check out the boiler room which is a hang out for the cadets. Fitz shows up to see Donnie, frozen kid.

May and Coulson talk about how they will disappear off the grid while on their stake out. The rogue agent runs from May. Fight time! The first thing out of the Agents mouth is that it must be about the baby girl. The baby was the 084. The agents were being killed because of the child. The agent tells them to stop digging and that death follows the child. May warns Coulson to never tell Skye.

Fitz bonds with Donnie about being lonely at the academy. Fitz realizes that Donnie is trying to power a bigger version of the Ice Machine. Fitz and Seth from the pool were actually working together. Ian Quinn is buying the technology. Quinn cancels the deal after he tells the kids to set it off at Shield. Coulson tells Skye that he has been lying. Coulson tells her the whole truth of her past.

Donnie’s machine causes a hail storm that turns to a super storm. Donnie tries to find a way to stop it. May brings the Bus into the eye of the storm. The machine is hit by lightening and Seth is thrown to the ground. The are able to pick up Donnie and Seth and try to save Seth but it does not work. Donnie now has the freezing power within him and is being shipped to the Sandbox. Coulson calls Quinn to threaten him but Quinn is ready and lets Coulson know the Clairvoyant says hi.

My Thoughts:

I think it is good that they are showing Coulson with a crisis of faith. He should question a lot right now. Especially with how everything is going. He died and they forced him back to life. The question is why.

I just love the dynamic between May and Coulson. Their talks truly make the show. They are able to add a layer to the show that is needed. May have a hard exterior but she has a reason for everything that she does.

Okay so what powers does Skye have? What makes her special? Also do you think we will see the Clairvoyant during this first season or will this be an ongoing character in the shadows?

Teen Wolf “More Bad Than Good” S3, Ep. 14

Peter and Derek are being tortured and questioned about “La Loba”.  A little old lady is asking about a she-wolf. She cuts off one of Peter’s fingers. Scott and Stiles are running through the woods and find a coyote den with all the items from the little girl. They believe she is trapped inside the body of a coyote. Kara brings Scott some research and her dad embarrasses her. Poor thing. Stiles is called to the front to read aloud but the words literally melt off the page. Stiles has a panic attack. Scott has to convince him it is not a dream. Kara goes to bring the boys their book bags and sees a coyote. It traps her in the locker room and it was after the doll in Stiles’s book bag. Luckily Scott was there to scare it off.

Derek and Peter are  freed by a lady who was hired by Ducalean. Stiles father does not want to believe the coyote is a girl. Mr. Tate shows up and has a gun. He wants to kill the animal he believes killed his family. Isaac asks how to turn the girl back to human. They go to meet the twins to learn Alpha stuff even though they are not alphas anymore. They start to beat up Scott.

The twins are purposely beating him up and try to force him to turn. Sadly it does not work. Allison goes into one of her states again and almost shoots Isaac. The Scooby gang gather to get the coyote but it has actually made it back to the Tate house. Now everyone is out in the woods, there are bear traps, Tate with a gun, and Allison with a gun. Isaac ends up getting trapped. Allison is able to shoot Tate with the tranquilizer gun.

Lydia has stepped on a trap. Stiles has figured out that the coyote wants the doll to return it back to the car wreck. Stiles now has to figure out how to disarm the trap. Scott finds the coyote. Lydia motivates Stiles to figure out how to disarm it since he cannot read the instructions. Lydia is freed. Scott has changed and does the roar which helps the coyote change back to human. Stiles father is able to return the missing girl home to her father. Stiles father is still the sheriff and Stiles is able to read again.
End Sequence:
Derek and Peter find something within mountain ash that has a symbol on it. I believe we saw that symbol before. Someone pulls a little tree that has grown from the Nemeton stump and out comes lightening bugs that become people.

My Thoughts: I wonder what is so important about the she-wolf. Who is the she-wolf they refer to, Derek's sister?  Okay so the coyote had blue eyes in last week’s episode and now it is some crazy swirly eyes. It looks really scary now. I wonder what made her turn into a coyote in the first place. There is that question that needs to be answered.

I am ready for Scott to move on with the new girl.

I wonder if now everyone is able to function again. I do not think everything is going to be so cut and dry. There will be more that they have to deal with.

Okay I need more story of what is going on with Derek and Peter and why Ducalean is helping. Lets see.

Superhuman vs Supernatual Powers

Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since I have had a moment to share with you my random musings. This week we will discuss Superhuman Powers vs Supernatural Powers. Which one would you choose?

Superhuman powers are powers that are more advanced than the average human. Such as super strength, super speed, invulnerability, telekinesis, teleportation, projection of beams and force fields, and even flight. You can think of your typical super hero when you think of super human powers. An easy example will be Superman, X-Men, and Spiderman. The question for another discussion is should Superman even count because he is from another planet and is not technically human?

Supernatural powers are basically something that defies the laws of physics and exists beyond the nature. In this category you will find Witches, Wizards, Warlocks, Vampires, Sidhe, Werewolves/shifters, Succubus/Incubus and the such.

I am sure we can all think of some famous Wizards like Harry Potter, Vampires like Dracula, Werewolves – Michael J. Fox, and so on. Oh Sidhe are the Fair Folk aka Fairies.

Okay now that I have defined it all out for you and explained the difference, I would like to now cast my vote. I choose Supernatural Powers. I would choose the Sidhe because I can have a combination of powers such as long life, magic, shapeshifting, etc. I believe superhuman powers are more limited. I do not want to live forever like Vampires so choosing the Sidhe that live a long life but still die works for me. My weakness is Iron so I would have to be careful of that. I like the concept of magic though not being able to lie would be a drawback but I will just work around it like they do.

So what would you choose Supernatural or Superhuman Powers? Leave a comment below.

Sleepy Hollow “The Vessel” S1, Ep. 11 Review

Episode starts with Captain Irving trying to figure out what happened in the park when his daughter was threatened. The spirit is now in the police department and let him know that they want Crane’s bible or he plans to take his daughter. George Washington’s bible is supposed to help against evil but they team has not cracked how.

Abbie comes across a video that Sheriff Corbin had which is a recording of Jenny who was possessed by a demon. Abbie and Crane meet with Jenny and they agree to watch the whole video together to figure out how to destroy the demon. They are shocked to see that Demon Jenny plans to kill Abbie. Jenny understandable becomes freaked out and runs.

Irving moves his family to a safe house but turns out the demon is with them in the extra detectives. Jenny remembers how she used to lose time in her childhood. Jenny was purposely having herself arrested whenever she would get thoughts to destroy her sister.  Back at the safe house, Morales kills the other detective and is now in the house with the family. They find the demon is Angitif and they need a special lantern to cast out the demon. Crane remembers the lantern as being gifted to Benjamin Franklin. Macey is now possessed by the demon. She kills the minister very easily and then threatens to kill Cynthia (Macey’s mother).

Abbie plans to steal the lantern from the doomsday preppers. Crane tells Abbie how Jenny would go to jail to protect her. Abbie and Crane end up surrounded by the doomsday preppers in their attempt to escape. Crane tries to reason with the preppers about letting them have the lantern but they do not agree. Jenny shows up and saves the day and gets them free. Irving appeals to Macey inside the demon to fight and be strong but he fails. Abbie and Jennie stand together against the demon inside Macey. They trap it in a circle of salt and use the lantern to send it back to hell. Macey is free of the demon and Abbie and Jenny have their first true hug as sisters.

Crane uses a concoction to find the invisible ink in the bible. December 18th, 1799 and it is in Washington's handwriting 4 days after he died.

My Thoughts:

The demon possession thing is very scary. Smart move on Irving moving his family but sadly he did not do enough. I love how quick they are all able to reason out that Macey is possessed. I understand that they are all smart but come on lets be realistic.

Is Morales still alive? How to they explain all the bodies? Now you are going to mess with history and when Washington died. Oh and how did it take so long for them to look for invisible ink? Crane is able to deduce all kinds of things but not to the possiblity of invisible ink until the last minute. Really?

Overall good episode and a strong set up for next week's 2 hour season finale.

Young Avengers Vol. 1: Style > Substance Review

Young Avengers Volume 1 is an amazingly fun comic brought to us by the team of Keiron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, the team behind the Phonogram series as well as the previous run on Journey into Mystery. This is the first adventure of our team of Hulking, Wiccan, Kate “Hawkeye” Bishop, Kid Loki, Marvel Boy and Miss America. The writing of this book is extremely crisp and does an amazing job bringing the team together and setting the stage for more amazing adventures.

What I like most about this book is the interactions between the characters, between Hulking and Wiccan’s relationship as well as Hawkeye and Marvel Boy’s budding romance and everyone’s general mistrust of Kid Loki we get some great teenage angst. It’s like a lighter version of One Tree Hill, you know the first few seasons when they were in high school before the time skip, with superheroes.

My personal favorite is Kid Loki, I loved the way Gillen wrote him in Journey into Mystery and he continues the playfully deceitful and trickiness here that he mastered in that previous series, I seriously suggest you guys go to your local comic stores and pick them up if you can.

The art here is simply amazing, the facial expressions are great for the characterization, I would buy a whole comic of Mckelvie drawing Miss America scowling at Kid Loki, and issue number four has one of the best and most fun splash pages I’ve seen in a pretty long while. The fluidity of the motion of the page was like Mckelvie was conducting an orchestra with his pencils and I can say that that is worth the price of the book alone. I’m a huge fan of this team and their run on this series will be at the top of my to read pile.

Gamer Corner: Tobias

Welcome to this week's installment of Gamer Corner, where Fangirl Review interviews a gamer and gets his thoughts on the gaming world and learning what he is enjoying at the moment.

Tell me a little bit about yourself? What rig do you currently game on? What kind of gamer do you classify yourself to be? ie. PC, Console, Tabletop, LARP as well as Hardcore, RPG, etc.

My gaming rig is currently a custom Xeon e3 1285 and a Radeon HD 7990 on the PC side. On the Mac side, I also game on Steam with a Mac Pro with an E5560 and a Radeon HD 5770.

What kind of gamer I am I? An opportunist- I play games where the games are, no matter the platform.

What is your first memory of gaming?

My first vivid flashback of gaming is relentlessly playing Crystal Castles back in 1986 until my eyes bled. The levels would NOT stop coming, and I felt each new procedural stage was a new challenge I HAD to take on.

What game are you currently playing right now? Do you enjoy that game, why? How’s the overall game play and graphics?

The game I just finished two days ago was The Wonderful 101 on Wii U, and I must say it’s a contender for Game of the Year for me. Nothing can quite describe how this game plays, and it is a wonderful challenge (pun intended) all the way to the end.

The next game up in the queue is Killer Instinct on Xbox One, and so-far I am very impressed with the gameplay.

Would you recommend it, why?

I would recommend Wonderful 101 simply because it HAS to be played to be fully understood. I’d recommend Killer Instinct for two reasons- it’s a decent fighting game, and because I’m a fanboy of the franchise.

Are there any games coming out that you are looking forward to?

Definitely. I’m looking forward to Infamous: Second Son, Mario Kart 8, Titanfall, Super Smash Bros U, Monolith’s “X”, and Bayonetta 2.

If you could design your own game what would it be like?

If given the time and opportunity, I’d make an old-school beat-em up with a modern combat engine and better story similar to what Rocksteady did with the original Batman: Arkham Asylum. It would be even MORE focused on combos and acrobatics in a sci-fi setting.

Patent pending, of course!

Thoughts on this new generation of consoles – Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

My thoughts are a bit against the grain- PS4 and XBONE launched late due to Nintendo’s traditional sense of a console cycle’s length, though Nintendo is just now taking advantage of the time lapse with some killer games I think it needed at launch.

It’s pretty obvious that had it not been for Nintendo, XBONE and PS4 would have launched next year rather than now. So far, there’s more games that are worthwhile to play on Wii U than the other two for obvious reasons, but I’m still having fun with Resogun on PS4 and Killer Instinct on XBONE.

Since this is another evolutionary cycle rather than a revolutionary cycle, I’m sure all three consoles will have a wealth of signature games that most gamers will be overwhelmed with.

What are your thoughts on the gaming industry?

A touchy subject, but IMO the gaming industry is turning it’s back on what matters most- the fun and entertainment of the game, rather than who pushes the most effects at 60 frames per second, or what studio has the budget to make a Hollywood-like experience that sells 10 million copies upon release, only to drop off the charts forever afterwards.

Focus on the game- it’s why you’re here. If not, there WILL be another gaming crash.

10 years from now, where do you see the industry? Are you happy with that direction? If you had the power, what direction would you have the gaming industry go?

Well, I kind of answered half of where I see the industry going if things continue going the way they are now. If everyone gets their act together, I see videogames rivaling other forms of media in popularity in the near future, as a sticking point, and not a fad.

If I had the power to change the direction of the industry, I’d have studios do what they did in the past- make a kickass game that PLAYS WELL, and have the word-of-mouth do the work for you. Eventually it will pay off over time if that is ALWAYS your pedigree.

Favorite Game (can include tabletop) of all time and why?

Killer Instinct 2 (Arcade). This game consumed my life as a teenager while learning glitch/reset combos and other secrets. I’ve never had more fun playing a videogame.
